MAIN HOUSE: (Sleeps six in 3 bdrms/1.5 baths) Originally built in 1858, Customs House once sat nearer to the shore and, as the name suggests, inside were the offices that recorded all marine activity in and out of Southwest Harbor. More than 100 years later, it was relocated to its current location on High Street with a large front lawn, a private back yard and a quiet neighborhood setting. Located in the quaint village of Southwest Harbor, this in-town home provides easy access to plenty of great restaurants, unique shops, museums and harbor activity. Recent renovations provide guests with a spacious and bright home that balances older charm with modern conveniences. A large front lawn and spacious back yard offer lots of fun for outdoor play. Take a short stroll to the marina and watch the lobstermen bring in their catch. Local boat rentals are available, or take the water taxi to explore the waters and outer islands surrounding Mount Desert Island. The free Island Explorer shuttle stops are also close by for easy island-wide traveling and sightseeing. STUDIO APARTMENT: **UNAVAILALBLE FOR 2019** For an additional fee, a renovated above-garage apartment offers a private space for up to two more. This studio apartment includes a galley-style Kitchen, Living Area with sofa and TV, and Queen bed and a Bathroom with tub and hand-held shower.

OUTDOOR SPACES: Large wrap-around deck with plenty of furnishings and gas grill overlooks both the side and back yards.

About this area:

Mt. Desert Island's second largest village, Southwest Harbor, features a charming Main Street with an appealing assortment of shops and restaurants. The neighboring village of Manset, which is along the southern shore of the harbor, tends to be rural in nature but features a number of excellent restaurants and boatyards, including Hinckley Yacht Yard and Morris Yachts, both of which boast an international reputation. If Bar Harbor is the 'gateway' to Acadia, Southwest Harbor is the gateway to Acadia's westside trails and attractions, including Seawall, Ship's Harbor, and Echo Lake, all between five and eight minutes from the village center.

We LOVED the Customs House. The kitchen was state of the art, everything is bright and cheery, and it was a very short walk to town and to the harbor.
