Rob Van Alen

Rob’s real estate experience spans a 15-year period, mainly in the Chester County region of Pennsylvania, where he consistently ranks in the top 2% of agents in a large national firm. All it took was slight encouragement from The Knowles Company and Rob pursued his Maine real estate license in 2018. There are many ties with the summer community wintering in Pennsylvania, and The Knowles Company partnership is ideal.

Rob’s enthusiasm for MDI and Acadia National Park runs deep, coming from a fourth-generation summer family on the island. It all started with the purchase of Sonogee in Bar Harbor in the 1920s by his great grandparents. After the “Great Fire of 1947,” the family moved to Northeast Harbor where they remain to this day, overlooking Clifton Dock at the mouth of Northeast Harbor, surrounded by numerous extended family.

Rob enjoys competitive sailing within the Northeast Harbor Fleet. He has represented the local International One Design (IOD) class, successfully competing in the World Championships, North Americans, and Bermuda Race week, numerous times. You’ll also find Rob hiking the trails of ANP, biking through town, and enjoying all aspects of the Island with his two children, close friends, and extended family.

Rob, and his wife Colby, recently purchased a village home in Northeast Harbor, through Knowles. Throughout the winter they enjoyed working with local craftsmen and contractors to fully rebuild / renovate this 1930’s Shingle-style bungalow.

Rob graduated from The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA and received a BA in Art History from Hobart and William Smith Colleges where he was also a member of the sailing and squash teams.

With a direct dally flight from Philadelphia to Bangor, the commute for Rob is manageable, and any excuse for him to get to MDI throughout the year is well received!
