Ait Shona
Trenton, ME 04605-
Beds: 1 King, 2 Queens, 1 Sofa Bed
Named for the Irish phrase meaning “happy place,” Áit Shona enjoys wide open living spaces, 300 feet of private shorefront on Mt. Desert Narrows and fabulous outdoor spaces on 10 wooded acres. All rooms have water views, with Sargent and Cadillac Mtns. and Mt. Desert Island in the distance. Newly renovated kitchen, baths, and 60-foot waterside deck further add to an already comfortable spot for up to six people. Picnic, play games, swim, beach comb or just relax in an Adirondack chair along the rocky shore directly in front of this lovely property. When you’re in the mood to trade intense tranquility for bucket list beauty and adventure, you can be at Acadia National Park’s “front door” in minutes. Ideally located equidistant between buzzy Bar Harbor and lower-key Ellsworth in the Downeast National Heritage Area, Áit Shona also offers easy access to nearby restaurants, shops, art galleries, lobster pounds, quaint villages, and more. Whether it’s a family vacation, group rendezvous, or romantic retreat, this very special year-round property (complete with generator) can accommodate you!
FIRST FLOOR: Entry opens onto a beautiful open space with sweeping views and a continuous Living, Dining, and newly renovated Kitchen area. Living Room features a fireplace, stereo unit, an eclectic library, lots of access to the deck, and plenty of comfortable seating overlooking the water. Dining area has a 7.5’ table to seat six comfortably (eight or more with 18” leaf extension). Kitchen enjoys a center island for cooking prep and is stocked with quality cookware, a sous-vide unit, panini press, rice cooker, yogurt maker, coffee and Nespresso makers. Island counter seats four. Half Bath and Laundry Room/Pantry are off the hall adjacent to the Kitchen.
SECOND FLOOR: Accessed by a half flight of stairs, the Guest Wing features two bedrooms, each with a Queen bed, both with water views and full closets, and one with a desk area. These bedrooms share a newly renovated Full Bath with walk-in shower. A second half flight of stairs leads to the Primary Bedroom with King Bed and en suite fully renovated Bath with separate soaking tub and glass-walled shower. Down a short hallway, a Den with TV, DVD player, stereo unit, work area with standing desk, monitor and printer, and water views provides a quiet spot for enjoying a movie, listening to music, reading, or catching up on your emails! Sofa opens to a double bed for extra sleeping space, suitable for a child or young adult. (Note that the sofa bed is not intended to increase the maximum occupancy above six.)
CUPOLA: Another short flight of stairs leads to a small cupola with counter seating and exceptional views across the Narrows towards Mt. Desert Island. Perfect for a morning or evening beverage, bird watching, or enjoying the passing weather!
LOWER LEVEL: Includes a grill prep area, second refrigerator, dry bar, dartboard, and double doors leading outside to a patio and grilling area. Just beyond the bar is the casual (and slightly funky!) Lounge area, which features a 42-inch TV, DVD player, and Bose soundbar with Bluetooth connectivity. A special feature of the Lounge is a small stage for musical “jamming,” complete with guitar and bass amps, digital piano, and percussion. Please ask agent about use of the music equipment prior to rental; guitars are not provided.
OUTDOOR SPACES: Newly built 60-foot deck and screened gazebo overlooking the grove and shorefront with furnishings perfect for outdoor meals, morning coffee, evening cocktails, and relaxing. Shoreline is great for launching a kayak, stand-up paddle board, canoe (not provided), fishing, clamming, swimming, or just relaxing in one of the four Adirondack chairs and enjoying the view! At low tide, a sandbar leads to Alley Island for exploring or picnic adventures (please be sure to review the weather outlook and consult a tide chart prior to exploring!).
NOTE: Due to the open staircases, high decks, and exposed shoreline that is not immediately visible from the house, this home may not be suitable for very young children. Please consult agent. -

Known as the ‘Gateway to Acadia,’ Trenton, Lamoine, Prospect Harbor and other mainland communities enjoy proximity to Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park, with access to the expansive Union River Bay and Mt. Desert Narrows. Appreciated for being away from the crowds, this area is home to several local lobster pounds and close to Ellsworth dining. Many homes in this area enjoy spectacular views of Mt. Desert’s peaks, and swimming is generally warmer in the bay waters. Lamoine’s public sandy beach, Trenton Community Trails, Wild Acadia Fun Park, and the Stanwood Bird Sanctuary are just a few of its many attractions!
