Aloha
Bar Harbor, ME 04609-
Beds: 3 Kings, 3 Queens
Built in the early 1900s, “Aloha” is one of the few remaining grand Bar Harbor Cottages that survived the 1947 fire. Now lovingly restored and comfortably furnished, this home is poised above the shores of Frenchman’s Bay with unequaled views of Bar Harbor’s bar, the Porcupine Islands, and boating activity in the the greater harbor. Offering ample living and dining spaces both indoors and out, this home is uniquely positioned to provide direct access to Bar Harbor’s shops and restaurants as well as dynamic views of the bay and mainland beyond, all from a historic home that can accommodate a large gathering. Recent renovations include fresh paint throughout, updated furnishings, re-finished wood floors, and all new high quality mattresses!
FIRST FLOOR: Although most enter through the back of the house near the Kitchen, the front portico and Grand Foyer make a wonderful first impression! To the right is a comfortable Living Room with ample seating and fireplace. This room opens into the Dining Room with table that seats 8 to 18. Across the hall from the Dining Room is a small Study with oversized chairs and fireplace to offer a cozy spot for reading or quiet conversation. On the other side of the Dining Room, and overlooking the home’s orchard and gardens, the Sun Room provides a central gathering spot for relaxing. With tri-fold doors opening to the covered terrace and plenty of windows that catch the breezes, this room is cool and comfortable in the summer, and warm and cozy in the off-season. Connecting directly to the Dining Room, the Kitchen features a 6-burner electric range, double oven, and updated counter appliances, as well as plenty of quality cookware for meal prep and entertaining. Also overlooking the water is a bright and cheerful Breakfast Room with table that seats six to eight, as well as a cozy sitting area with television. Just beyond is a privately situated Bedroom 1 with King Bed and en suite Full Bath with combined Tub and Shower. This bedroom also has a door to access the back hall and Kitchen entry of the house. A half bath is located off the main foyer. Laundry that includes two washers and one dryer is located in the basement.
SECOND FLOOR: Accessed by both the grand staircase in the foyer or a narrow back staircase off the Kitchen, the second floor features five bedrooms, three of which enjoy water views. Bedroom 2 features a Queen four-poster bed, peeks of the water, and en suite Full Bath with shower stall. An office space offers magnificent views as well as access to a lovely covered porch overlooking the grounds and water. Bedroom 3, considered the Primary Bedroom, includes a King Bed, spectacular views from the cozy sitting area, and en suite Full Bath with tub and shower combined. Across the hall, Bedroom 4 features a Queen bed and en suite full Bath with tub and afterthought shower. Just down the hall, Bedroom 5, considered a 2nd primary bedroom, offers a King Bed, water views, and en suite Full Bath with clawfoot tub only. A shared Full Bath with shower stall off the hall serves both this bedroom and Bedroom 6, which features a Queen Bed.
THIRD FLOOR: Accessed by a single staircase, the Third Floor currently does not have 2nd egress, and its bedrooms are therefore not permitted as sleeping spaces.
OUTDOOR SPACES: Covered porches across the front of the house offer multiple spaces for relaxing or dining. Well-maintained grounds feature several flower beds and small vegetable gardens (guests are invited to enjoy their bounty!). The grassy lawn leads to the narrow shore where one can step down for a stroll at low tide or a quick plunge in the chilly bay waters. At the end of Bridge Street is public access to Bar Harbor’s tidal sand bar, a popular spot for walking and beach combing, but beware the incoming tide! Many a tourist (and their vehicles!!!) have been stranded unexpectedly!

Bar Harbor’s village and surrounding rural residential areas are a popular destination for visitors to Acadia National Park. The town center offers diverse shops, restaurants and activities. Acadia National Park’s Hulls Cove entrance, as well as other major entrances, are located just outside the village center. Not all properties listed as ‘Bar Harbor’ are actually in the village of Bar Harbor, since the town of Bar Harbor encompasses the northern half of Mt. Desert Island, most of which is quite rural in nature. However, homes within this area are usually between five and fifteen minutes’ drive to the village center.
