The ‘quiet side’ of Mt. Desert Island, which includes Bass Harbor, Tremont, Seal Cove, and Bernard on the southern and western sides of the island, is much more rural in nature and only about twenty to thirty minutes to major park entrances. What Bass Harbor lacks in shopping, it makes up for in seafood restaurants and local color, as this is a village with a true ‘Down East’ flavor, as well as the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.

Was a refreshing change from the busier Bar Harbor side of the island. Small classic seaside Maine villages in the area. Still plenty to do and good places to shop/eat.The property had everything that we needed, very clean and nicely decorated with artwork reflecting the local coast. Lower level of split level but plenty of outside light. Easy to find, close to Southwest Harbor.
Bass Harbor Hideaway was the perfect place to get away for several days. Thanks for sharing your comfortable and cozy house with us.
This has been a great place to stay while exploring Acadia! We loved the accommodations!!! Very comfortable to come home to after days of exploring! We enjoyed being on the quiet side of the island. Thanks for sharing your place with the four of us.
This was the perfect place to stay for our trip to Acadia! It is not too far from Bar Harbor and park attractions. If you want lobster while you are here, go to Thurston’s Lobster Pound. It is only 4 minutes away. It is cheaper than anywhere in Bar Harbor, and is the best lobster that I had on my trip!
