Bar Harbor’s village and surrounding rural residential areas are a popular destination for visitors to Acadia National Park. The town center offers diverse shops, restaurants and activities. Acadia National Park’s Hulls Cove entrance, as well as other major entrances, are located just outside the village center. Not all properties listed as ‘Bar Harbor’ are actually in the village of Bar Harbor, since the town of Bar Harbor encompasses the northern half of Mt. Desert Island, most of which is quite rural in nature. However, homes within this area are usually between five and fifteen minutes’ drive to the village center.
We loved our stay at Bide-A-While. Such a beautiful setting. We enjoyed gorgeous sunrises over the island from the back porch as well as the incredible flower gardens. The beds were very comfortable with nice bedding. The home was stocked with all the things we needed and the owners were detailed with instructions for the home and helpful recommendations for enjoying Bar Harbor. The location was ideal for walking to restaurants and shops and a quick drive to explore Acadia. Our family made incredible memories spending a week here.
Incredible stay at Bide-A-While in the Fall. The setting and natural surroundings of the expansive property were beautiful, with a backyard green space overlooking Porcupine Islands, our children played wiffle ball and catch, fished, and explored to their heart’s content. I loved enjoying the gorgeous garden spaces and we found ourselves drawn to the back porch that overlooked the water at all times of day. We came to the area not planning to spend much time in our lodging but the space was so peaceful it was hard to leave the property to venture to town or explore Acadia. While on property we enjoyed spotting eagles, fox, deer, & porpoises. A very special place that has given our family & friends very special memories.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bide A While!! We couldn’t get over how fabulous the house was!! We loved sitting on back porch and watching boats. Was so neat to have breakfast on the back porch also!! We saw deer and chipmunk at the house. Grounds and flowers were beautiful!! Would have loved to have stayed another week!! Am so glad we were able to get such a wonderful place for our vacation!
We had an incredible time—our children will never forget this vacation. There is no better feeling in the entire world than being curled up with a blanket and cup of coffee on that back porch while watching your kids fly kites (provided!) in that backyard, or dare each other to run through the deer sprinklers, or find treasures in their own private tide pools—the boats bustling past behind them. Please thank the owners (and thank you!) for the magical week. We loved every second there.
