Mt. Desert Island’s second largest village, Southwest Harbor, features a charming Main Street with an appealing assortment of shops and restaurants. The neighboring village of Manset, which is along the southern shore of the harbor, tends to be rural in nature but features a number of excellent restaurants and boatyards, including Hinckley Yacht Yard and Morris Yachts, both of which boast an international reputation. If Bar Harbor is the ‘gateway’ to Acadia, Southwest Harbor is the gateway to Acadia’s westside trails and attractions, including Seawall, Ship’s Harbor, and Echo Lake, all between five and eight minutes from the village center.

We had a great stay here at the Captain’s Quarters. Thank you for sharing your lovely place with us! We highly recommend the Nature and Lobster Cruises in Bass Harbor and the Downeast Deli in downtown Bar Harbor. All of our hikes were outstanding!
We had the best time at Captain’s Quarters for our honeymoon! It was quiet, a great location, and the owner greeted us warmly as soon as we arrived. We absolutely would recommend.
This was a wonderful place to stay on our first trip to Maine! From the comfortable bed to the soft fluffy towels, everything was lovely and well thought out. We appreciated the chairs that you provided to us as well. You really are wonderful hosts. Our time here went by quickly, but we made the most of it. We rented E-Bikes from Mdi Bike Rentals, Patrick, and took in the Carriage Roads in Acadia, Hiked Jordan Pond, and took a sunset cruise. Thank you for providing this unique lodging experience to us!

This is one of our absolute favorite places to stay when visiting national parks. We seriously couldn’t have expected a more amazing stay! John was so friendly and accommodating. We seriously cannot wait to come back and refer all of our friends to this place. We came to celebrate my 27th birthday and our first trip away from our 6 month old daughter. 10/10 trip!!!

Thank you for being the most gracious hosts! We chose Captain’s Quarters for our honeymoon and loved every bit of our stay. After exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor, it was so nice to come back to a peaceful home. We had delicious meals at the Nor’Easter Pound and Market, Havana, and Brasserie Le Brun. Hodgdon’s Seafood was great for a quick and casual meal. Choco-latte and Vacationland are a must for coffee and breakfast. Salt Life was great for a sweet treat. We did so much exploring. Acadia is a must. The sunrises by Thunder Hole were perfect. Gorham Mtn had great views. Thank you again!
