Bar Harbor’s village and surrounding rural residential areas are a popular destination for visitors to Acadia National Park. The town center offers diverse shops, restaurants and activities. Acadia National Park’s Hulls Cove entrance, as well as other major entrances, are located just outside the village center. Not all properties listed as ‘Bar Harbor’ are actually in the village of Bar Harbor, since the town of Bar Harbor encompasses the northern half of Mt. Desert Island, most of which is quite rural in nature. However, homes within this area are usually between five and fifteen minutes’ drive to the village center.

Grandsons playing on the beach and exploring the shoreline, reminding us that we can learn so much from our young and of the awesomeness of nature. Being absolutely awestruck by the setting sun from the deck and having a front row seat to fireworks across the cove. Rejoicing in the fact that, once again, we were able to gather as a family and celebrate life and all it has to offer. Thank you, Cole Cottage, for another year of rejuvenation, recharging and most of all rejoicing in the celebration of life and family.
We had a lovely time at Cole. It was absolutely beautiful and right on the water, which was an absolute must for us. The houses are very well appointed and have all the kitchen stuff you would need! It may not be the best place to stay if have young kids due to the steep stairs and balconies, but overall we had a great time!

From the moment we arrived, my family of ten including our 4 grandsons went to exploring the caves and beach combing every day. The giant hammock got a workout every day and when asked “what was your favorite thing today?” we got answers like “miniature golf” or “ice cream” but our oldest grandson Ben said “the hammock.” I’m amazed that even at the age of 67, I can still learn from the innocence of youth. My week with my family grounded me once again with the importance of family-thank you!

We stayed at the Cole Cottage Compound and we had a wonderful experience. We came with our daughter’s young family so it was ideal to have to houses in the same compound since we all had a bit of privacy and yet could be together most of the time. The porches are wonderful with the great view of the sea from many different angles and there always being plenty places to sit in sun or shade to match your preference. We brought up our inflatables kayaks and that was a wonderful part of our experience as we could easily launch them from just in front of the houses and use them explore much of the area. Another thing we loved was how quiet it is, being far from the main road so that you would only hear a few cars passing each day. We also appreciated the support we got from the Knowles Company and the Cole family. There were only two occasions during the two weeks when we needed something, and on both occasions they responded immediately.
