About this area
Somesville was the first village settled on Mount Desert Island in 1761 and is now a National Historic District. Walking or driving through the village is like stepping back in time, with sights of beautifully preserved examples of early New England architecture and a charming mill pond. The year round population of about 800 residents enjoy close proximity to Acadia National Park, Echo Lake, Somes Pond, and Long Pond. With its central location, all of Mt. Desert Island’s treasures are just a short drive away.

We love this house! Our family has been coming to the island annually for over 20 years and this is our favorite rental. The location is private yet so convenient, and we feel more relaxed the moment we step out of the car and breathe in the sweet scent of the pine forest. And there’s nothing like walking down to the water’s edge and watching the gentle waves made by boats in the Sound.
My family also loves the layout of the house and the wonderful wraparound deck— it’s like being in a treehouse. The remodeling of the bathrooms was done beautifully so the house is even nicer than during our last visit.
I would be grateful if you could let the owners know how lucky we feel that they are willing to share their special place with others!
We have come to Maine for years and this house and location were fantastic. Magical woods, serene water view, a wonderful deck, and a house that felt like home as soon as we arrived.
We’re sad to be leaving! We loved Maine and hope to come back again one day. Cove Point Cottage was perfect for us. The children loved being so close to the water and also the ping pong table! I loved the quiet and the cool breeze and the piney smell and best of all, I heard a loon last night! Such wonderful memories made.
We had a wonderful time; the cottage was perfect, and the view of Somes Sound was an amazing sight each morning.
