The ‘quiet side’ of Mt. Desert Island, which includes Bass Harbor, Tremont, Seal Cove, and Bernard on the southern and western sides of the island, is much more rural in nature and only about twenty to thirty minutes to major park entrances. What Bass Harbor lacks in shopping, it makes up for in seafood restaurants and local color, as this is a village with a true ‘Down East’ flavor, as well as the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.

We had a great family vacation in Seal Cove. Quiet, secluded and plenty of wildlife. Easy kayaking in Seal Cove and beyond.
We truly loved this house and its location — could not imagine a more beautiful place. The house is absolutely charming and very comfortable, with a fully equipped kitchen. The terrace outside has a fabulous view, and we loved being able to hang out on the dock and wade in the water (full of sea stars). We also loved the quiet aspect of being in the woods, and off the beaten path. Could not imagine a better place to vacation!
