The ‘quiet side’ of Mt. Desert Island, which includes Bass Harbor, Tremont, Seal Cove, and Bernard on the southern and western sides of the island, is much more rural in nature and only about twenty to thirty minutes to major park entrances. What Bass Harbor lacks in shopping, it makes up for in seafood restaurants and local color, as this is a village with a true ‘Down East’ flavor, as well as the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.
The property is a wonderful getaway for family and friends. The great lawn directly on the cove is perfect for games, stargazing and wildlife watching. It’s tranquil and secluded. The magical trail through the woods to what my kids dubbed “treasure beach” is a real gem. There was every amenity we required, and it was very clean and cozy! The dressers in the main house smelled musty, so we didn’t put our clothes away, but otherwise we were all comfortable.
From The Knowles Company: Sorry you found the dressers unpleasant! We have made the owner aware and she will look into addressing that problem! Thanks!
