Ida's Cabins
Islesford, ME 04646-
Beds: 2 Queens, 2 Singles, 1 Bunk Bed
New to the rentals market, discover this magical spot away from the crowds of Bar Harbor. Situated at the end of a private dirt road, this rustic but cozy cabin is perfect for long days of reading and Scrabble, exploring nearby tide pools, and reconnecting with nature. Steeped in family history, this sweet property offers visitors the ability to completely – or at least ALMOST completely – unplug. Accessed three to five times daily by passenger ferries or private water taxis from Northeast and Southwest Harbors, the village of Islesford on Little Cranberry Island is a truly unique destination with a small but lively community.
MAIN HOUSE: Built in the 1920s and renovated in 2013, the main house features a combined Living, Kitchen, and Dining area with exceptional easterly views to Mt. Desert Island, Schoodic Peninsula, and the open ocean beyond. Living area features comfortable seating for five, wood stove, vaulted ceiling and exposed framing, table that seats six comfortably and counter seating for three, as well as two walls of picture windows. Though simple, the Kitchen is remarkably well-stocked for meal prep and opens to the living area to allow the chef to remain a part of the conversation! A newly installed mini-split AC unit and Heat Pump will keep you cool in the heat and warm on chilly days in the off-season. Primary Bedroom with Queen Bed. Full Bath with stall shower. Small Bedroom fondly known as the “hole-in-the-wall” features a built-in under-sized bunk, suitable for young children. A washer and dryer unit are located in the detached shed, close to the main house.
BUNKHOUSE ONE: Connected to the main house by decking, a small detached bunkhouse serves as a guest Bedroom with comfortable Queen Bed.
BUNKHOUSE TWO: Identical in size and also connected via deck, the second Bunkhouse, suitable for young children, teens, or very game adults, features a twin size cot and built-in bunkbed, all with new mattresses as of 2024.
OUTDOOR SPACES: Sunny back deck captures the afternoon sun, but the piéce de résistance is the front screened in porch with built in wrap-around sofa, plus a rustic dining table to seat four to six. A small open deck is also accessed from the screened porch for grilling. Just steps away, the cobblestone beach features an enviable picnic area made entirely of driftwood and fire pit. Small yard area with minimal landscaping, surrounded by mature woods of spruce and fir.
EXTRAS: Golf cart provided for transportation on the island, and some old and cranky bikes are available for tenant use. Parking space in the Cranberry Isles lot in Northeast Harbor is provided.

The Cranberry Isles, made up of Great Cranberry Island and Little Cranberry Island, or Islesford, are located off the coast of Mount Desert Island. The year-round population of approximately 35 – 75 people swells considerably during summer months with the return of summer residents, summer visitors and visiting yachts. This makes for a vibrant summer community on each island. There is a year-round passenger ferry service and seasonal water taxis. The Islesford Dock Restaurant is famous for its good food and lively atmosphere. Both islands boast a small library, historical center, and a small market.
