The ‘quiet side’ of Mt. Desert Island, which includes Bass Harbor, Tremont, Seal Cove, and Bernard on the southern and western sides of the island, is much more rural in nature and only about twenty to thirty minutes to major park entrances. What Bass Harbor lacks in shopping, it makes up for in seafood restaurants and local color, as this is a village with a true ‘Down East’ flavor, as well as the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay, even in the few hot days. The house had everything we needed, kitchen supplies, towels, blankets, games, coolers, lots of family love. We loved how rustic it is and the history with it. For those wanting to be right in the action of Bar Harbor or the main parts of Acadia, this is a bit of a drive. But the quiet time to decompress with no TV and no noise but nature was amazing. We loved the outdoor shower too!
