Long Pond is the largest freshwater pond on Mt. Desert Island and serves as the reservoir to the village of Southwest Harbor. Swimming, kayaking, and fishing are popular activities on this lovely lake just west of Somesville. Southwest Harbor’s village center is approximately fifteen minutes away, and major park entrances are between ten and twenty minutes’ drive.

We had a lovely time at Pebble cottage and we’re struck by its gorgeous location right on the edge of long pond. It was a good size for my husband, myself and our 5 year old. In addition to enjoying the cute cabin, babbling stream, and dock access to the lake, we also appreciated the owner’s extremely quick and generous response to us when the wireless was out. Highly recommend!
Our family had an amazing stay at Pebble. It is the perfect location on the island. We could walk ten feet out the door and be in/on Long Pond and you could hardly tell there were neighbors both because of the trees and because it was so quiet. We loved watching all the kayakers and paddle borders, but it wasn’t ever busy or loud. It was a 5 minute drive to our favorite hike (Beech Mountain) and only about 20 minutes to the Park Loop Road in Acadia. The cabin had everything we needed. We were able to cook our own meals and were thankful for the grill. In the cabin the pictures, the red futon has been replaced with a small couch which we really appreciated. We are so thankful we stayed at Pebble. If you’re looking to really get away, this is the place for you!
It was our first time in MDI, Maine. We didn’t really know the area but we felt very fortunate to have found Pebble through Lynn at Knowles company. It was easy and simple to book the place. We were given plenty of instructions and directions to get prepared for our trip. We were very happy with our stay at Pebble. It’s rustic and very charming complete with a loft, and a dock outside. Our kids had fun swimming and fishing off the dock. Don’t forget water shoes! Canoes and kayak could be rented from National Parks center. They will deliver for weekly rental. My husband and son canoed all over Long Pond to fish. They caught a few small -mouth bass. We were only a few mins from Acadia, my new favorite place to be. It was one awesome vacation we would never forget! We will stay at Pebble again in the future!!!
