Long Pond is the largest freshwater pond on Mt. Desert Island and serves as the reservoir to the village of Southwest Harbor. Swimming, kayaking, and fishing are popular activities on this lovely lake just west of Somesville. Southwest Harbor’s village center is approximately fifteen minutes away, and major park entrances are between ten and twenty minutes’ drive.
