The ‘quiet side’ of Mt. Desert Island, which includes Bass Harbor, Tremont, Seal Cove, and Bernard on the southern and western sides of the island, is much more rural in nature and only about twenty to thirty minutes to major park entrances. What Bass Harbor lacks in shopping, it makes up for in seafood restaurants and local color, as this is a village with a true ‘Down East’ flavor, as well as the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.

The cottage is a wonderful place to stay for a week of paddling around the lake and visiting the area. The owners are wonderful people.
It was a very clean and nice cottage. The boats are a a great bonus. We spent a lot of time rowing around the pond. There’s a HUGE snapping turtle that came to visit one day at the dock. Nearly a two feet long shell. Didn’t stop us from swimming all we wanted though!
Wonderful location on the island, and a great property. This is our fourth stay at this home and we look forward to many more.
The location of this cottage is really hard to beat…water views and access, quick drives to most of the island’s attractions, but still feels pretty secluded. It’s really well appointed and easy to live in for multiple weeks.
