Looking for a great spot to be close to Bar Harbor, but not in the fray? Consider this attractive home just outside the village center in a quiet neighborhood setting on a nicely wooded 1.6 acre lot. Hop on your bike, and within minutes you’ll be shredding the Park Loop Road or exploring the miles of Acadia’s carriage trails. Enjoy walking access to Bar Harbor’s village shops and restaurants, all within a mile of the house. An architect-designed, Japanese-influenced mid-century modern style home with lots of bright indoor and outdoor spaces is sure to please.
MAIN FLOOR: The front door opens to a wide hallway, lit by skylights, that runs the length of the house. Immediately to the right is the kitchen which has lots of counter space and ample storage along with updated appliances. A sliding glass door provides ready access to the deck and outdoor grill. The large dining room is open to the kitchen. From the dining area there is a sliding glass door that leads to a three-season garden room whose walls are made of seven sliding glass doors. Relax on the Philippe Starck bubble furniture and feel immersed in nature. Continuing down the center hallway, past the dining room, is a living room that opens out onto a large Ipe deck. There is a gas fireplace, flat screen TV and ample seating.
Along the left side of the hallway are two bedrooms; one with a Queen bed; and one with two Twin beds. On the right side of the hallway, beyond the living room, is the primary bedroom featuring a King-sized bed and slider access to the large deck. All three bedrooms share two full baths, each with combined tub and shower. The larger bath also has a new front-loading washer and dryer.
OUTDOOR SPACES: There are continuous decks that run from the front door, along the kitchen, garden room, living room, and primary bedroom. The main deck off the living room provides an elevated perspective from which to enjoy the open but private pitch pine woods.
EXTRAS: Mudroom with both an exterior side entrance and access into the front hallway is a great space to store outdoor gear. Ping Pong table in the basement!

Bar Harbor’s village and surrounding rural residential areas are a popular destination for visitors to Acadia National Park. The town center offers diverse shops, restaurants and activities. Acadia National Park’s Hulls Cove entrance, as well as other major entrances, are located just outside the village center. Not all properties listed as ‘Bar Harbor’ are actually in the village of Bar Harbor, since the town of Bar Harbor encompasses the northern half of Mt. Desert Island, most of which is quite rural in nature. However, homes within this area are usually between five and fifteen minutes’ drive to the village center.
Pitch Pines is a wonderful place to stay if you are visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park . We had a great vacation with hiking and riding e-bikes on the carriage trails. The location is great with easy access to both Bar Harbor and the National Park. The house has everything we could have needed and then some. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Maine and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to friends or family.
This is the second time we have rented this property. It is a lovely property conveniently located close to Bar Harbor town and carriage trails. Home is immaculate, has a well stocked kitchen and a good laundry. The interior design and landscaping make for a peaceful zen like experience. Highly recommend.
We really enjoyed our stay at Pitch Pines. Everything was well appointed and comfortable. The location couldn’t have been more perfect for us!
Pitch Pines was the perfect house for our 1st family vacation with our adult children! Secluded in the peaceful woods yet a 15 minute walk to town. A quick 15 minute drive to Acadia Park for all day hiking and swimming. The kitchen was fully stocked. Grand table for family meals. Living room was cozy and the perfect spot for games nights. Plenty of room for everyone! My only suggestion would be to refurnish the sun room. Such a beautiful space but never used due to awkward furniture. Thank you so much for a seamless experience. We will certainly be visiting again.
Pitch Pines was perfect! Short stroll or 4-minute bike ride into Bar Harbor but in a private and peaceful setting. Super close to park and Cadillac Mountain. Love the Zen design and open layout.
