Mt. Desert Island’s second largest village, Southwest Harbor, features a charming Main Street with an appealing assortment of shops and restaurants. The neighboring village of Manset, which is along the southern shore of the harbor, tends to be rural in nature but features a number of excellent restaurants and boatyards, including Hinckley Yacht Yard and Morris Yachts, both of which boast an international reputation. If Bar Harbor is the ‘gateway’ to Acadia, Southwest Harbor is the gateway to Acadia’s westside trails and attractions, including Seawall, Ship’s Harbor, and Echo Lake, all between five and eight minutes from the village center.

We stayed at this lovely rental in June 2022. It was perfect and had everything we needed. The neighborhood is quiet and the house has a beautiful view in the back. I would highly recommend Renardie if you are visiting Southwest Harbor.
