An historic village in the town of Mount Desert, Hall Quarry is minutes from Echo Lake and Long Pond. Many of Acadia National Park’s offerings are nearby, such as the trails of Acadia, St. Sauveur, and Beech Mountains. The towns of Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Bar Harbor are all within a ten to fifteen minute drive, and a rich history of the local granite industry has left several picturesque ponds and clearings in the area.
It’s an exquisite place to stay. Could not have been better. Fishing off the docks was amazing.
Our family spent 10 days at Somes Sailaway in August 2022. The house was beautiful; well equipped with plenty of space and gorgeous views of the Sound from inside and from the decks. The lobster pot, grill and fire pit were often used. We loved the water access, with a dock and boat mooring. We sunned, swam and rented a motorboat to explore the Sound and Harbors and watch the seals. Hiking at Acadia Mountain and other trails were nearby. It’s a great location for exploring Acadia, but away from the crowds and on the quiet side of MDI. The Knowles Agent communicated with us frequently and was available for any questions. Our relatives visiting from Europe are already asking when they can return. I can still see the views…
Somes Sailaway was AMAZING! It was so hard to leave. The views were spectacular and there was an incredible amount of space for us. It was our very first trip to Maine and surely not our last! It will be hard to ever find anything to top or even match the feeling at Somes Sailaway. We appreciated all of the amenities, but truly the views and dock access were our most favorite. And it was so accessible to all of our adventuring through Acadia. The wildlife viewing was also incredible: seals and porpoises right off of the dock each morning, and we even saw a bald eagle on the property as well. Pretty spectacular!
