Sunset Farm
Somesville, ME 04660-
Beds: 1 King, 1 Queen, 1 Double, 7 Singles
Those familiar with the New England architectural vernacular of “Big House, Little House, Back House, Barn” will instantly recognize that pattern in this charming nineteenth century farmhouse set atop rural Beech Hill with expansive views of distant mountains and meadows. Though historic in feel, this home doesn’t sacrifice comfort and modern conveniences with wi-fi throughout, updated baths, and not one, but two updated kitchens. Accommodating a crowd works well in this lovely home where sunsets, star gazing, and simply relaxing in a pastoral setting are a must! Beech Mountain Hiking trail is less than a mile down the road, and many other park attractions are within a 5 to 25 minute drive. Southwest Harbor’s village center for groceries, shopping, and dining out is approximately 10 minutes from this home. Looking to come in the early or late season? Note that West has baseboard electric heat, but East does not.

Somesville was the first village settled on Mount Desert Island in 1761 and is now a National Historic District. Walking or driving through the village is like stepping back in time, with sights of beautifully preserved examples of early New England architecture and a charming mill pond. The year round population of about 800 residents enjoy close proximity to Acadia National Park, Echo Lake, Somes Pond, and Long Pond. With its central location, all of Mt. Desert Island’s treasures are just a short drive away.
