Long Pond is the largest freshwater pond on Mt. Desert Island and serves as the reservoir to the village of Southwest Harbor. Swimming, kayaking, and fishing are popular activities on this lovely lake just west of Somesville. Southwest Harbor’s village center is approximately fifteen minutes away, and major park entrances are between ten and twenty minutes’ drive.

The weather was almost perfect and I enjoyed sitting on the deck reading and looking out on the lake. Because it was late September the lake was quiet. I loved listening to the loons call to each other. The only negative was the slow WiFi. Home was so very comfortable with a variety of places to sit and look out at the lake. The kitchen was well equipped and very user friendly. The master bedroom suite with the large walk in closet was amazing!!

The Looney Bin is the PERFECT Maine rental home. It is centrally located and beautifully positioned on Long Pond, which is very serene. It is private, at the end of a long private road. It is large and in excellent condition. Put simply, it is outstanding and I would highly recommend it for anyone seeking a rental accommodation near Acadia.
