The Tea House
Southwest Harbor, Fernald Point, ME 04679-
Beds: 2 Queens, 2 Singles, 1 Trundle
With Acadia National Park bordering on three sides of the property, you will feel as if you’re in the cradle of nature, with nothing but you, the ocean breezes, seals, and loons to keep you company. Walk to trail heads for Valley Cove and Flying Mountain, or drive five minutes to reach charming and vibrant Southwest Harbor’s village center for shops, restaurants, marina, and more! Exposed beams, an “old world” story book look and feel, beautifully landscaped outdoor spaces, and views of the boating activity all combine to make this home feel truly magical! Enjoy easterly views across Somes Sound towards Sargent Mountain and Northeast Harbor.
FIRST FLOOR: From the parking area, follow a pine needle covered path to the front entry facing the water. Enter into a cozy Living Room with vaulted ceilings, wood burning fireplace, and great spaces for conversation or curling up with a good book. A small gas-powered wall unit takes the chill off a cool day during the off-season. To the right, a door leads to the terrace and side yard. Continuing further, a Dining Room with table that comfortably seats six enjoys water views through its picture window. Note that the woodstove in the Dining Room is for decorative purposes only. Beyond the Dining Room is a small but functional kitchen with two-burner glass top range, built-in convection/microwave oven, dishwasher, small bar sink, mini beverage fridge, and small apartment sized fridge. What this kitchen lacks in space it makes up for in excellent organization and functionality, particularly when cooking for two to four people. Use this kitchen’s limitations as a great excuse to enjoy some of Southwest Harbor’s great restaurants nearby! To the left of the Living Room, a Primary Bedroom features a Queen Bed, filtered water views, and en suite Full Bath with combined tub and shower. A connecting hallway with well-stocked linen closet and stacked washer and dryer leads to the Second Primary Bedroom with Queen Bed, door to the flagstone terraced garden, and en suite Full Bath with clawfoot tub and “after-thought” shower.
SECOND FLOOR: Steep stairs lead to a delightful reading nook tucked under the eaves overlooking the Living Room. Note that with its low railing, this landing is not safe for young children or those with mobility concerns. Just beyond the landing, a Bedroom with Twin Beds and Single Trundle Bed includes an en suite Water Closet and separate Shower Room with the sweetest combined tub and shower we have ever seen!
OUTDOOR SPACES: Surrounding the house are multiple, delightfully intimate garden rooms for relaxing, dining, or enjoying the woods and water views. Follow a short path to a stone path leading down to the deep water dock and float. Note that a hot water outdoor shower can be found at the head of the dock for rinses after a bracing swim in Somes Sound!
NOTE: No TV, but excellent Internet, so bring your device to enjoy your favorite online programs! This home serves as the guest house to the owner’s larger home attached to and situated behind this one. However, your privacy is ensured as the house is only available when the main house is unoccupied.
EXTRAS: Deep water dock can accommodate a small to medium sized outboard boat.

Mt. Desert Island’s second largest village, Southwest Harbor, features a charming Main Street with an appealing assortment of shops and restaurants. The neighboring village of Manset, which is along the southern shore of the harbor, tends to be rural in nature but features a number of excellent restaurants and boatyards, including Hinckley Yacht Yard and Morris Yachts, both of which boast an international reputation. If Bar Harbor is the ‘gateway’ to Acadia, Southwest Harbor is the gateway to Acadia’s westside trails and attractions, including Seawall, Ship’s Harbor, and Echo Lake, all between five and eight minutes from the village center.
