Mt. Desert Island’s second largest village, Southwest Harbor, features a charming Main Street with an appealing assortment of shops and restaurants. The neighboring village of Manset, which is along the southern shore of the harbor, tends to be rural in nature but features a number of excellent restaurants and boatyards, including Hinckley Yacht Yard and Morris Yachts, both of which boast an international reputation. If Bar Harbor is the ‘gateway’ to Acadia, Southwest Harbor is the gateway to Acadia’s westside trails and attractions, including Seawall, Ship’s Harbor, and Echo Lake, all between five and eight minutes from the village center.
For the third consecutiive year, Tigsacolle did not disappoint. As of this year, there are new appliances: dishwasher, washer, and dryer–all working perfectly. (I liked the dishwasher better than my relatively new one at home.) We walked to the gorgeous butterfly garden and the nearby causeway many times during our stay. We enjoyed many of the myriad hiking opportunities. Bar Harbor is nearby and lovely, but Southwest Harbor has a number of great shops and restaurants within walking distance. Tigsacolle does not disappoint!
Our family of five adults and two babies returned to Tigsacolle for the second consecutive year. The rooms are spacious, and the yard is huge. We enjoyed a few dinners and breakfasts at the huge dining room table that could fit 18 or 20 people. All the appliances worked fine. The yard was great for barbecuing and watching the kids run around. We love Southwest Harbor and appreciate that the cottage is a short walk away. There are several great restaurants and shops there, and it’s a short drive to Bar Harbor. Maybe it will become our “go-to cottage” in beautiful Maine.
Tigsacolle is a great old-fashioned (in a good way!) Maine cottage, with lots of space for our large group of five adults and two babies. There was plenty of privacy for everyone, and the home has everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. We already love Southwest Harbor, so we appreciated that we could walk to shops, restaurants, and the beautiful Claremont hotel. The views everywhere are spectacular. We would love to return!
Tigsacolle was a perfect escape for our family. The house and kitchen were fully supplied to meet all of our living needs. The outdoors was calm, spacious and the perfect for setting up badminton and bocce ball games. The home was an easy walk to the town center of Southwest Harbor, and we were grateful to be on the “quiet side.” We highly recommend this cozy, complete vacation stay.
Lovely “Maine” home. Very much felt a part of the true Maine experience.
