Two Roads
Hodgdon Pond, ME 04690-
Beds: 2 Queens, 2 Singles
This attractive cottage on the shores of Hodgdon Pond is within easy reach to Acadia National Park’s “Quiet Side” attractions, but, honestly, you may be content to just enjoy your lakeside view! A short wooded path leads to water’s edge where kayaks are available for tenant use. Southwest Harbor’s village center is roughly 15 minutes’ drive and Bar Harbor is approximately 30 minutes’ drive from this location.
FIRST FLOOR: Accessed via ramp, the back door leads to a well-equipped Kitchen with views of Hodgdon Pond, counter seating for three, and a Dining Table that easily sits four. Spacious Living Room with window AC unit, flat screened Smart TV for streaming, pond views, and a nice collection of puzzles and games for rainy days. A door from the Dining/Kitchen area leads to a sunroom with sliders that open to allow cool breezes on a hot day. Note that while there is a bannister along the “wall of sliders,” this space would not be safe for young children or toddlers left unattended. A door from the sunporch leads to a small furnished deck with grill. Bedroom with Queen Bed, AC window unit, and semi-private Full Bath with combined tub and shower. While this house is accessible and has a first-floor bedroom, the bath does not have a walk-in shower. Bedroom with Twin Beds and window AC unit.
LOWER LEVEL: Stairs lead to a comfortable, well-ventilated walkout basement with laundry area and a large, comfortably furnished second hangout space with TV and Queen Bed. Shared Full Bath with shower stall.
OUTDOOR SPACES: Deck overlooking Hodgdon Pond, well organized fire pit adjacent to the front entry. A narrow meadow extends from the house to the water, and a wooded path leads to a shared dock suitable for launching a kayak. Hodgdon Pond is generally swimmable in the center of the pond, but this shore can be reedy and grassy, depending on the time of year and pond levels. Dock and kayaks are shared with nearby Seal Cove Cabin tenants.

The ‘quiet side’ of Mt. Desert Island, which includes Bass Harbor, Tremont, Seal Cove, and Bernard on the southern and western sides of the island, is much more rural in nature and only about twenty to thirty minutes to major park entrances. What Bass Harbor lacks in shopping, it makes up for in seafood restaurants and local color, as this is a village with a true ‘Down East’ flavor, as well as the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.
