Mt. Desert Island’s second largest village, Southwest Harbor, features a charming Main Street with an appealing assortment of shops and restaurants. The neighboring village of Manset, which is along the southern shore of the harbor, tends to be rural in nature but features a number of excellent restaurants and boatyards, including Hinckley Yacht Yard and Morris Yachts, both of which boast an international reputation. If Bar Harbor is the ‘gateway’ to Acadia, Southwest Harbor is the gateway to Acadia’s westside trails and attractions, including Seawall, Ship’s Harbor, and Echo Lake, all between five and eight minutes from the village center.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time as a family at Water’s Edge. The view is breathtaking! The well-stocked kitchen, the cozy dining room, and the fabulous fireplace made our stay here especially memorable. The less crowded Southwest Harbor was a refreshing place to visit.
I cannot say enough good things regarding our stay at Water’s Edge. The home is stunning, of course, but also cozy and historied and libraried…but with the modern amenities a guest might want while on vacation. Can’t wait to return.
We had a wonderful week here in early June. The views are spectacular, the mattresses are comfortable, and the kitchen is large and well-stocked. We enjoyed being in a smaller town; it was about 20 minutes from the main entrance to Acadia Park plus there were local hiking trails as well. The Knowles Company was very efficient and we had no problems during our stay.
Water’s Edge was truly the perfect house for our family vacation! We enjoyed the beautiful views, the very comfortable beds, the amazingly well-stocked kitchen, exploring all its great historic magazines and books by the warm fireplace on chilly nights, and the proximity to Southwest Harbor allowing for many walks into town and tennis matches at the nearby courts.
We absolutely loved your home and had an amazing vacation. I absolutely give the highest recommendation possible
October 2020.
