The ‘quiet side’ of Mt. Desert Island, which includes Bass Harbor, Tremont, Seal Cove, and Bernard on the southern and western sides of the island, is much more rural in nature and only about twenty to thirty minutes to major park entrances. What Bass Harbor lacks in shopping, it makes up for in seafood restaurants and local color, as this is a village with a true ‘Down East’ flavor, as well as the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.
We really loved our nearly a week here! It was a perfect base for exploring Acadia and the surrounding area. We cooked all of our meals and had everything we needed to do so. The main bed was super comfy (we didn’t use the upstairs ones). It was very quiet and cozy. We visited the whole area fairly easily (everything within about 1 hour drive or less) including the Schoodic Peninsula, Deer Isle and much of Acadia. Highly recommended.
Thanks for your feedback! Based on your suggestions, the owner updated his living room furniture and added some hassocks and other cozy features to make thinks more comfy!
We loved our week at 14 Wicker Way! It is private, quiet, and lovely. We loved being awakened each morning to the amazing songs of the White-Throated Sparrow and the Winter Wren! The cottage itself is nice and spacious and open, and the decor is great. And it’s hard to beat the Quiet Side of MDI. We enjoyed the proximity to Southwest Harbor and its shops and restaurants–we had good meals at Eat-a-Pita (breakfast), Cafe Drydock, and a fantastic dinner at Red Sky. We loved being 5 minutes from Bass Harbor too and our fav restaurant of Seafood Ketch where we dined x3 on the deck. Also nice and close to Seawall that we visited x2, Ship Harbor Nature Trail, and Wonderland. Close also to St Saveur that we hiked Monday morning of our week. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Hope to be back some day.
May 2023 My wife and I stayed at 14 Wicker Way with our two dogs and we loved this place. We got to explore the quiet side of the island and really enjoyed it. And you’re just a short drive to Bar Harbor. The cottage is as advertised with everything we needed for our stay. We hope to stay here again when we visit next year. Jason D.
Jun 2023 We enjoyed our stay at Wicker Way Cottage! We took our two 2023 high school graduates on a road trip, stopping in the area to explore Acadia. It was nice having a home to relax in at the end of our hiking days. The space worked well for oir family of four. The driveway to the house is a bit tricky to find, but very clear directions were provided by the hosts. Maggie U.
