Nick was the perfect realtor for us. The consummate professional, he recognized Angela’s expertise and leaned on her as well as guiding us to an extraordinarily successful sale. His presentation focused on our home rather than bragging about the realty company, and was well researched, concise and ultimately proved absolutely correct. A full price cash offer in 8 days was not on my bingo card, but that’s what Nick got for us. We would and will eagerly give him, Tory and the Knowles Company our highest recommendation. Thank you Nick and Tory!

Beth was fabulous! She was enthusiastic about our house, perceptive of its assets, had the market spot-on, and was full of information and help! We are so glad we chose her to help us sell the property.

Kate Chaplin is outstanding. We have happily relied on her wisdom, deep insider knowledge of both the properties and the ever-changing needs of our large tribe. We have also relied on her patience and commitment to meeting our needs!

So incredibly helpful with finding a place to rent, and even assisted us in finding a baby gear rental company on the island. Very responsive to email too – will definitely book with The Knowles Company in the future!

This is a fantastic home to book for extended stays! I stayed here for a week with 4 other friends, and everything about this home was absolutely perfect.

Anything that you think you may need (no matter how niche) is here; we only needed to make grocery runs and didn’t need to buy anything else. The home also has basic cooking necessities (oil, spices, flour, etc.), a fully functional kitchen, and lots of snacks.

The location is superb. It’s about 15 minutes away from a grocery store and 20 minutes away from Acadia’s most popular hikes.

Lastly, the house is beautiful. It’s surrounded by nature and wildlife and the interior is well-decorated.

We would definitely stay again and highly recommend the home to anyone who is looking.

  7. October 28, 2024

We enjoyed this home very much; it was a real respite. On The Sound was perfect! I did find that the ship’s ladder was built for someone less nimble and younger than me, which made the top floor, which is lovely, a little less accessible. However, we were happy to have some distance from the village which is busier and more social.

Thanks so much for making our stay so special!!! It was so nice of the owner to come and greet us. This is an amazing spot here and we can’t speak highly enough of it.

My family stayed in Newhall Cottage (now called Bewater Cottage) for the first time in October 2024. We found the home extremely clean, well equipped & it had that “feeling of home” for the 4 of us. It’s located in a quiet part of the island & we loved it and will definitely be back!

    — JIM A.
  10. October 17, 2024

We loved staying at this house. It is very convenient to downtown, very clean and well stocked. We walked to restaurants and spent a lot of time at ACADIA, which is so close to downtown. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Bar Harbor. Knowles and Blakeslee were great to work with. This is the second time I have gotten a rental from Knowles and appreciate their help and communication/follow-up with us.

    — Deborah A.
  11. October 17, 2024

We loved staying at Simple Pleasures. It is beautiful location with a beautiful view right on Somes Sound! It has that old school Maine feeling, and we would definitely stay here again!

  12. October 12, 2024

Lovely home in a great location. This home has a very well stocked kitchen with plenty of extra things not always provided. We stayed a week and the beds were so comfortable with nice bedding. I would definitely stay again if coming to the area.

    — Cindy C.
  13. October 12, 2024

Beautiful house, nicer than the photos, lots of light from the many windows. Very clean and comfortable; we especially loved the chairs in front of the windows facing the beach. The great local art hung around the home really added a lot to it.

  15. October 11, 2024

We had an amazing stay in Summer Winds for our trip to Mount Desert Island. This property is drop dead gorgeous, with high end amenities and plenty of room to spread out. My mom appreciated that the bedrooms were on the ground floor, and we all enjoyed the barn/great room for watching wildlife and enjoying the monster TV! Our little dog Ginger enjoyed the freedom of the dog run, and we were all impressed with the high end kitchen fully loaded with everything you need to create a gorgeous meal. Communication with the owners and the property manager was smooth and efficient. We truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this beautiful property!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time as a family at Water’s Edge. The view is breathtaking! The well-stocked kitchen, the cozy dining room, and the fabulous fireplace made our stay here especially memorable. The less crowded Southwest Harbor was a refreshing place to visit.

    — Norma S.
  17. October 6, 2024

If you want a peaceful, tranquil and well – maintained house with the very best views. This is the place. There is so much to do in and around Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor and we couldn’t wait to come back to the house to sit and look at the view. Southwest Harbor small shopping district had two of the best restaurants that we have been to in a long time. Cafe 2 is a must in town. Just a wonderful little house in the perfect small town. Highly recommend!

The value you get from this little cottage cannot be beat. The view and the location is perfect. You’re right on the water, overlooking a stunning view of beautiful boats. There’s a beach right out front where our toddler played (supervised) for hours and had a blast. You’re a few steps away from The Claremont hotel and all that has to offer. And you’re a bike ride away from the town of Southwest Harbor. The main sitting area is cozy and the furniture seemed updated and well kept. We used the working fireplace on a particularly chilly night and enjoyed it. The primary bedroom was fantastic with an even better view than the main sitting area and an updated bathroom. This is the only bedroom with a view. The heat in the primary bedroom works very well and we were very comfortable. There is a small bedroom off the primary with kids furniture, books, and toys and it was perfect for our toddler with a full bed. I would not recommend it for a couple unless you’re tiny. The other side of the house had a queen bed and small, less updated bathroom. There was another bedroom up a spiral staircase with two twin beds that we did not use. In late September, it did get chilly in the house, so we did crank the primary bedroom heat and had to buy another space heater for the kids bedroom. We were all comfortable with that setup. If you have kids, there is a closet FULL of toys. Many aged and well-loved, but still fun. We used the kayak once and enjoyed it, but it was a little cold. The kitchen gets the job done – we did have to purchase some supplies – paper towels, laundry detergent, shampoo and soap, trash bags, and the space heater. The house overall was perfect for what we needed. It could have used a more thorough cleaning before our arrival, so I would recommend you bring that up with the rental company prior to your stay. We would definitely stay here again simply for the view and the location if it was just going to be us and our daughter.

From The Knowles Company and the Homeowners: Hi, Emily! We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay at The Legacy. Thank you for your kind review! Thanks, too, for picking up the additional space heater you requested, for which you were reimbursed. We’re sorry you didn’t find the house up to its usual standards with some household items missing. We’re always looking for ways to improve our service, and this is helpful information! We hope to see you again next fall!

    — Emily C.
  19. October 2, 2024

This was the second time we rented Viewpoint and we enjoyed it as much as we did then first time. The location is superb, near the Acadia National Park entrance and near enough to Bar Harbor without feeling the congestion that is always there. It is in a very private area with no traffic and the view is as good as it gets.
The house is very well appointed and served our needs. Great kitchen, dining room and living room with an even better deck looking out to the islands.
We would recommend it without reservations.

    — Norman M.
  20. October 2, 2024

My family had a wonderful stay at Cunningham Cottage. It is a great, quiet location, but everything in Bar Harbor is easily walkable. The living space was very comfortable with plenty of space to spread out and the kitchen was wonderfully equipped! This really was a perfect house for my husband, two young kids and my mom to enjoy Acadia!

    — Carrie
  21. October 2, 2024

    We loved Sea Gypsy!!!
It was the first visit to Maine for my husband, myself and our good friends who joined us.
Sea Gypsy was like stepping into someone’s beautiful home with an amazing view and peaceful surroundings. After exploring Acadia, going on a lobster boat, eating at several lobster pounds it was a treat to return to Sea Gypsy to relax and unwind. Don’t miss the opportunity to stay here. Would also highly recommend a visit to Thuya Gardens.

  23. September 30, 2024

This is our second stay at this charming cottage. It is full of historic references to the Ninfi and Lund families, who established it. We love the spacious yard, and the view from the living room window. From here, it’s a short walk to Shipwright Lane on Somes Sound, where you can see large granite boulders next to a shipyard. It’s also just a few minutes by car or a couple of miles on foot to Long Pond or to Echo Lake. Also, it’s nice to have a tv and dvd player in a comfy sitting room, for evenings or foggy days. All told, it’s a cozy place to hang out on MDI.

    — Judith M.
  24. September 27, 2024

Loved the Outpost!! So cozy and beautifully decorated. Charm and elegance. Thank you for renting to my family!!

    — Emily J.
  25. September 27, 2024

Wonderful location and we really enjoyed the fire pit. It was beautiful looking out over the sound and watching sun rise and loved the moonlight. The Lund’s keep it in immaculate shape and have anything you need there for you use. Coffee, coffee filters, paper towels, spices you name it they had it!

    — Julie M.
  26. September 27, 2024

Love Joy Ride. Well kept home in desirable location, with everything clearly labeled in the kitchen. Truly feels like a home away from home.

  27. September 23, 2024

We are totally in love with Lukens Cottage! It’s cozy and comfortable, and its well lived-in, well-loved vibe makes us feel very at home. We love its simplicity, not to mention the huge windows, wonderful water view and great location. We’ve been enjoying every minute here and will hate to leave! I hope you will convey our enthusiasm and appreciation to the owner. We feel like we lucked into a little gem and could not be happier with it. We will certainly be in touch next time we’re making plans to visit MDI.

    — Kate V.
  28. September 21, 2024

Great location and lovely property along with all of the necessary amenities for an excellent experience. My only criticism is that batteries in the first floor bedroom and living room television remotes were both dead and needed to be replaced in order for those two televisions to function. I am very knowledgeable about how remotes function, but it did take quite a while to diagnose the problem and fix the issue. We did not travel to Maine to watch television but local and national news are both important to us.
We would have appreciated a bit of help or better yet a normally functioning tv for our trip.

From The Knowles Company: So sorry the batteries died on you like that! Glad you were able to get it sorted. Hope to see you again next season!

    — Jim M.

We really enjoyed our stay at Pitch Pines. Everything was well appointed and comfortable. The location couldn’t have been more perfect for us!

  30. September 19, 2024

Amazing house just steps from the Ocean! 3 bedroom with a fourth room with pull out couch. 2 large bedrooms upstairs with bathroom and master bedroom downstairs with en-suite. Nice deck for morning coffee, fire pit and short walk to ocean. Big kitchen and dining table too.

    — Carey W.
  31. September 18, 2024

The most amazing vacation home! Beautiful and peaceful setting right on the ocean. The home itself was perfect for our group. We spent evenings on the back patio, enjoyed the hot tub, and made use of the house bikes. Easy access to the park and town. Would definitely rent again.

    — Shannon N.
  32. September 17, 2024

The most enjoyable stay ever! The homeowner was a wonderful hostess, and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. Hope we can make a return visit in the future!

  33. September 14, 2024

    We loved it!
Great location.—-Quiet neighborhood . Can walk to restaurants and shops (and shore path, when restored)
The house was perfect for us (4 people). It had everything we needed.
We loved the font porch and the back yard firepit.

    — Toby S.
  34. September 12, 2024

We love this house! Our family has been coming to the island annually for over 20 years and this is our favorite rental. The location is private yet so convenient, and we feel more relaxed the moment we step out of the car and breathe in the sweet scent of the pine forest. And there’s nothing like walking down to the water’s edge and watching the gentle waves made by boats in the Sound.

My family also loves the layout of the house and the wonderful wraparound deck— it’s like being in a treehouse. The remodeling of the bathrooms was done beautifully so the house is even nicer than during our last visit.

I would be grateful if you could let the owners know how lucky we feel that they are willing to share their special place with others!

    — Lisa S.
  35. September 11, 2024

We had a great experience for adults and kids! The house had everything and was spacious enough to hold our large family. The views were great and the dock was absolutely amazing! The kids went fishing off the dock for hours and played lacrosse in the large backyard. And we were able to explore the whole East side of MDI and Frenchman’s Bay with our powerboat that we brought up for the week. It was great memories for all, and we would be excited to come back again in future years!

    — J.R. M.
  36. September 7, 2024

Our family of four had an amazing week stay at Cole Cottage. It was the perfect location for exploring Acadia and Mount Desert Island. It was clean and very well equipped, having every thing we needed for our stay. The beach was quiet and absolutely beautiful. We loved coming back to the peaceful retreat each day. Our kids especially loved the hammock. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

    — Jill L.
  37. September 6, 2024

My family really enjoyed this house. It is in a great location, right in town and easy access to Acadia. House was clean, spacious, with new kitchen and bathroom. Back outdoor space was great too.

  38. September 6, 2024

We stayed at Island Sky the last week of August 2024 and had a wonderful time. The location is perfect – quiet, private, views from the porch are ideal, less than 15 minutes from Acadia entrance. There are some quirks, description is accurate and honest. Definitely would rent again.

    — Blake C.
  39. September 6, 2024

We loved our time in this beautiful home. Perfect location and everything we needed…except a kettle! Very comfortable and lovely holiday home.

From the owners: “We will definitely get a kettle for next summer! Thanks for the suggestion!”

  40. September 5, 2024

Absolutely fabulous/ the home is immaculate and kept up as new in every way. The location can’t be beat and the home owners are down the road and allow complete privacy and available to provide any request to make your stay fantastic. A must stay if in the area!

  41. September 3, 2024

This is a wonderful house in a perfect location. We came with a 3-generation family group, ages 10-75. The kids loved the bunk beds and shared bath with their parents’ room. All the beds were very comfortable and the rooms and baths spacious. The plumbing was old but operational.
Best of all was the ocean view and firepit for sitting and s’mores. Despite problems with cars and COVID, we could all relax at the end of the day.
As others have noted, it is an easy walk to town and short drive to trails and carriage roads.

    — Peter N.

Lovely, clean home with a great location. Plenty of towels and paper supplies for a family vacation. Stunning roses, hydrangeas and other plantings.

  43. August 30, 2024

This was an absolutely fantastic house. Impeccably clean, comfortable, and serene. More than ample space for two couples and two single adults. Kitchen has every pot, pan, utensil and dish you could ever ask for. Conveniently located to all that Acadia has to offer. We would stay again in a heartbeat, and probably will.

    — Thom T.
  44. August 28, 2024

For the third consecutiive year, Tigsacolle did not disappoint. As of this year, there are new appliances: dishwasher, washer, and dryer–all working perfectly. (I liked the dishwasher better than my relatively new one at home.) We walked to the gorgeous butterfly garden and the nearby causeway many times during our stay. We enjoyed many of the myriad hiking opportunities. Bar Harbor is nearby and lovely, but Southwest Harbor has a number of great shops and restaurants within walking distance. Tigsacolle does not disappoint!

  45. August 26, 2024

Our family of 5 stayed at the Hancock House for a week in August 2024. We LOVED this house. The kitchen and downstairs bath are gorgeous. The beds were all super comfy and the towels were fluffy. The house was stocked with everything we needed & more. The location was perfect for exploring Bar Harbor & Acadia. The Knowles Co. was extremely easy to work with and we would absolutely rent through them again.

    — Rachel H.
  46. August 23, 2024

We really loved our nearly a week here! It was a perfect base for exploring Acadia and the surrounding area. We cooked all of our meals and had everything we needed to do so. The main bed was super comfy (we didn’t use the upstairs ones). It was very quiet and cozy. We visited the whole area fairly easily (everything within about 1 hour drive or less) including the Schoodic Peninsula, Deer Isle and much of Acadia. Highly recommended.

    — Anna N.
  47. August 23, 2024

Perfect home for our family vacation! The house was very clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. An unexpected bonus was that we could walk to the Flying Mountain Trail (our favorite!) and to a lovely stone beach on the way to town. We spent every night around the campfire cooking s’mores and watching the Perseids Meteor Showers. The agents at Knowles were easy to work with and quick to respond. Would definitely recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Mill Cove. Everything in this home was just perfect with extra thoughtful touches throughout. The mornings in the sunroom were absolutely beautiful. It’s the perfect location to relax and enjoy and close to Bar Harbor and Acadia.

Our stay at Pine Street Retreat was wonderful. It was clean, the kitchen was nicely stocked, it was very bright and cheery. The proximity to downtown Bar Harbor was great, within walking distance. The proximity to the various park entrances was very convenient.

We would definitely recommend this property!!

This was an absolutely perfect rental property. We had our family of four–our kids are in their early 20’s. The house was clean and perfectly appointed–with things like coffee filters and laundry detergent so you felt right at home. The beds were wonderfully comfortable and the bathrooms on the newer side. The view of the water was spectacular. We would return here in a heartbeat! Thank you for everything!

  51. August 21, 2024

What a fabulous home! We enjoyed every moment that we stayed at this great location so convenient to Acadia, town and many restaurants. Sitting on the deck looking at the bay with the scent of the salt water was an instant relaxer. This home is a vacation in itself! We look forward to visiting again.

    — Mary R.
  52. August 17, 2024

Our family had a wonderful week in Maine and want to return one day.

Full Circle is a beautiful house with many great amenities. It had everything we could want. The deck with comfortable seating, and table and chairs was very enjoyable. The property is quiet and secluded and a perfect location for the area. Thuya Garden, which was a short walk from the house, was an unexpected pleasure for us and we visited it several times during our stay.

    — Lolly T.
  53. August 17, 2024

It was a pleasure working with Megan. She listened to what we wanted, kept us in the loop with new houses coming on the market and we LOVE our new home. MANY THANKS MEGAN!!

    — Dave M.
  54. August 17, 2024

Megan was amazing! She understood what we were looking for and patiently showed us properties. We ended up with a property that was not officially on the market yet. Megan knew it was for us and arranged a viewing at short notice. Megan is a pleasure to work with!

Pitch Pines was the perfect house for our 1st family vacation with our adult children! Secluded in the peaceful woods yet a 15 minute walk to town. A quick 15 minute drive to Acadia Park for all day hiking and swimming. The kitchen was fully stocked. Grand table for family meals. Living room was cozy and the perfect spot for games nights. Plenty of room for everyone! My only suggestion would be to refurnish the sun room. Such a beautiful space but never used due to awkward furniture. Thank you so much for a seamless experience. We will certainly be visiting again.

    — Lisa B.
  56. August 16, 2024

Magnolia Cottage was wonderful for our family reunion. With 8 adults and 6 children (including 3-month old twins) we had plenty of space. We had homemade meals almost every night, and expanded the dining room table to fit us all. Our favorite room was the sunroom. We brought a paddleboard and loved swimming off the dock. Amazing location, easy to get to everything. Thank you!

    — Terri M.
  58. August 15, 2024

We had a lovely time at Pebble cottage and we’re struck by its gorgeous location right on the edge of long pond. It was a good size for my husband, myself and our 5 year old. In addition to enjoying the cute cabin, babbling stream, and dock access to the lake, we also appreciated the owner’s extremely quick and generous response to us when the wireless was out. Highly recommend!

  59. August 13, 2024

Our growing family of eight adults had a wonderful time at Glen Mary Manor. The location is good and there are lots of spaces to gather as a group – dinner and games around the large dining table, cooking together in the well-stocked kitchen, and a game of pool in the game room. Also, lots of big comfy beds for tall adults! We highly recommend this house.

Location location location!! Wow, the view is amazing, the kayaking off the dock is easy and fun (seals! herons! eagles!), the swimming delightful. The house is cozy and spacious at the same time, and the deck is simply spectacular. And the Knowles gang and caretakers took great care of us!

Just finished our second stay at Central Village House, and it was just as wonderful as the first! The walkability is perfect, the street is quiet, it has off-street parking, and the house is updated and clean. Feels like a home away from home for us now!

  62. August 11, 2024

We love this comfortable and spacious house. It’s a joy to walk 3 minutes to the pretty village of Northeast Harbor for groceries, pastries, shopping, or dinner out. This house has wonderful primary bedrooms (several!) and lovely smaller guest rooms, too. The vintage kitchen is well equipped. The nearby trails and sites make this a great place to stay.

Hyland Cottage is lovely, well equipped in every way, conveniently located with a great deck and an outdoor space that lends itself to kids playtime. The queen bed was very comfortable, the kitchen easy to use and the WiFi connection excellent in every part of the house. The rental agents (Nikki at Knowles) easy to communicate with and very responsive. We loved being there and hope to return soon.

    Bufflehead Camp is Extraordinary

What a beautiful place to vacation! Our family of four had such an incredible time at Sand Point Cottage. The house is steps away from a lovely cove where we enjoyed relaxing from sunrise to sunset, exploring the shore, and watching nature. The house is charming and has everything needed to feel at home. The location is also perfect – just minutes from Acadia. I highly recommend this home!

    — Sarah B.
  68. August 5, 2024

Sea Ledges has an incomparable location, a large point of land with surround views of Southwest Harbor out to sea, expansive lawns, rock ledges, pebble beach, fire pit, picnic tables, blueberries to pick and lots of room to enjoy the outdoors. The sun room is fabulous and many of the bedrooms have excellent views and breezes. It is a 1932 historic house, so kitchen and other rooms are of course older, but bathrooms are nicely updated and the house is very livable and private. Our kids and grandkids were in heaven and we were thrilled to enjoy this fabulous site with them! We will be back.

This house was wonderful. Big open spaces. Lovely deck area and sunroom. Perfect location for walking into town and accessing the carriage roads for biking. The house is very well built. Far enough in the woods to see deer and other wildlife almost daily.

Pros: Port is a nice property with decent amenities. Tranquil setting with a beautiful view of the harbor. Room for a family of 4. Convenient to town, but not in town. Easy parking. It was great to have a grill right on the deck. There were plenty of paper products, laundry detergent and dried herbs & oil for cooking.
Cons: The sheets on one bed were unclean so we washed them. The same room had a loud annoying humidifier that needs to stay on “at all times” which not only made it hard to sleep, but made the room hot (machine always cycling). Not fans of the bedrooms being in basement. “Stairway” to 3rd bedroom is more like a ladder; very steep and prob not for littles or older folks. The only air conditioner is in the master, so it was crazy hot & humid upstairs (prob not typical ME weather).
Had a nice trip regardless of these complaints.

    From The Knowles Company:
Hi, Wylie – we’re sorry you were surprised by this home’s layout and features, which we feel are thoroughly detailed in our description and reflected in its rate. We always strive to correct any mis-steps in cleaning as soon as we are made aware of them. And you’re right about the hot humid weather that week being atypical! Hopefully you won’t let this experience deter you from returning to another house that is better suited for you!

Tide Race is an amazing property!! The view of Acadia National Park is amazing from the living room and deck, watching the tide is relaxing and as usual the team from the Knowles Company made everything seamless. We love Acadia and can’t wait to plan our next visit!

It was a delight to be at Shorely. From the warm interiors to the harbor-filled view from the wrap-around porch, it is all wonderful. And it’s a short and easy walk to the Harbor or Northeast’s Main Street.
The house is beautifully maintained with everything from children’s games to a fully stocked kitchen to thrill any chef. Lovely bedrooms and bathrooms round out the comfort.
What a week with family! Thank you, Shorely, for the grand hospitality.

Great place to stay! Spent 3 wonderful weeks there. Keri and the folks at The Knowles Company were easy to work with. I was there with my wife and young son, and it couldn’t have gone better. The location is as perfect is possible. We ate dinner in the backyard, walked to Bar Island, etc.. My 3yo son said “I like my NEW house better,” referring to this rental:)

Had a wonderful two-week stay in June at Pine Ridge. This was our second summer renting the home, and we loved it just as much as we did the previous year. Incredibly well cared for, nicely stocked kitchen, and tons of games, DVDs, and books. The location is outstanding for everything you’d want to do on MDI. The owner is fantastic. We hope to return again soon.

Everything about the October 2023 review is true! You can feel the love in this family compound. Quiet and cozy they take pride in this special place. This cottage was a perfect escape to spend time together. Kids bunked in the open loft….we spent hours on the beach and more hours hiking Dorr, Cadillac, etc and would come back to the cottage in the evening for the amazing sunsets.
The loft and step down living room gives the house a ships feel. We affectionately nicknamed the basement bathroom ‘Thunder Hole’. 1.5 baths worked out just fine. Everything was well stocked and organized …thought was put into the renters needs. We’ve used the Knowles Company for almost fifteen years- tried another option one year and quickly returned. They are professional, pleasant and know their houses. They get that this is your special week away and they want to make it great. Thank you for sharing this tucked away treasure only a quick drive to Bar Harbor.

Our family had an amazing week staying at Mill Cove and exploring the area. This part of Maine is one of our favorite places on Earth and we make sure to visit the area every few years. We have never rented the same home again for any of our visits, but plan to from now on! Mill Cove was beyond perfect for our family of four and we will absolutely rent it again when we return in a couple of years. This area is magical and the house at Mill Cove only enhances the experience. Thank you for providing such a wonderful home base for exploring and adventuring. I can’t imagine a better place to return to each night. We will be back!

Once again, Gulls Rock was incredible. The house met all our various needs. The kitchen is fantastic, incredibly well-equipped, and big enough for many people to work together. Each family was responsible for one dinner and we ate very well. Several great cooks were able to provide excellent dinners for all, especially considering our various food limitations. The weather was perfect. Only one-half day of rain to keep everything green.

The caretakers again provided sensitive and appropriate assistance. They are gems.

We stayed at Willowbrook the last week of June 2024, and our family and friends had an absolutely wonderful time! The home is obviously well loved and beautiful, and the location in Somesville village is hard to beat for easy access to all the region has to offer. We strongly recommend Willowbrook for your group!

We loved our week at Marlboro Beach! The home is stunning, clean, and has everything you need; the kitchen was especially well-stocked, with lots of basics to help you get started.

There was plenty of room for everyone to spend time together, and also have their own space and privacy.

The location is beautiful and peaceful – we enjoyed watching the tide go in and out, and climbing down the rocks to the shore to look for shells. You can even launch a kayak from the shore – it’s a little tricky to carry down the rocks, but it can be done!

Working with the Knowles company was also great – hoping to come visit again next year!

Lovely place with beautiful views. My husband and I truly enjoyed our time in this cottage. It worked perfectly for us. The owner is very kind and accommodating. The power in the area had gone out for a very brief time, and the owner came to let us know before we even knew it was out. She also provided multiple flashlights and water. Highly recommended!

Pine Ridge is a lovely home with beautiful views of the woods and Cadillac Mountain. It was quiet and secluded, and only a short drive to Acadia National Park and the restaurants and shops of Bar Harbor. The house was just the right size for our family of seven adults, with a spacious first floor area that included the living room, dining area and kitchen. The house was very clean and well equipped. The bedrooms were very comfortable and a nice size, and we enjoyed spending a lot of time out on the beautiful deck. We would definitely recommend Pine Ridge!

This home exceeded our expectations! The home itself is clean, comfortable, and well-stocked with kitchen necessities. There are two butlers pantries , so plenty of room for drinks, snacks etc. Loved not having to lug towels and linens, and the ones provided are good quality. The yard and views are the shining star of this property! Such a lovely place to sit and enjoy a book! There is plenty of outdoor seating on the lawn and the deck. The house is only a few blocks from town, and someone from our group brought back coffee from Chocolatte every morning. Highly recommend this rental!

We loved Seabird Carriage House! It was the perfect location for our first trip to Acadia. The house was beautiful, very clean and thoughtfully decorated. The kitchen was well equipped and the owners left everything you could possibly need. The home was such a comfortable place to return to after a day of hiking. We had a question with regard to the a/c and the owners even called us back late at night. We would definitely stay here again and I have been recommending to our friends!

Loved this house! Great location to downtown on a quiet street. The house is clean, comfortable, spacious but cozy.
We had a great BBQ in the back yard.
1 suggestion – a gate on the backyard fence.
Had to contact the Knowles about something & they responded very quickly.
All 13 of us – adults, children & our dogs loved the house.
    A definite winner!

I cannot say enough good things regarding our stay at Water’s Edge. The home is stunning, of course, but also cozy and historied and libraried…but with the modern amenities a guest might want while on vacation. Can’t wait to return.

First time visiting Acadia and this house was perfect for our group of 4! The beds were so comfortable and the home was charming. The half bath on the main floor was great and the full bath was large with a great vanity which easily accommodated the toiletries of 4 woman! Although there was some road noise, we didn’t find it bothersome during our time at the house. Great location to explore all the area has to offer. Would not hesitate to stay at this home again.

The description of the house/property is exact.
My clan (three generations) of 10 loved our time here. It is a “modernized” throw back to the days of grandeur. You are in the woods, over-looking the water in an unbelievably peaceful setting. Our grandkids (15, 13/13/10) loved the yard and rocks to the waters edge.
There was plenty of room for each of us to enjoy the peace and quiet and/or participate in games as a group.
We especially enjoyed the modern kitchen. It had everything you could possibly need or use.
A good time was had by all.

I’ve stayed in The Parsonage before, and this visit was also exceedingly comfortable! The home is a lovely retreat on a quiet street but still very close and walkable to everything in the village and the waterfront. The house was well stocked and everything was comfortable. The kitchen in particular had anything and everything you might need! We would highly recommend The Parsonage.

My daughter and I wanted to enjoy a girls trip of hiking and relaxation. We certainly achieved both by staying here. From booking to checking out, everything went smoothly and efficiently. Communication was excellent, so much so, I feel I’ve made new friends. The house and location were perfect to explore everything Acadia has to offer. Crisp mornings started each day, sitting on the Adirondack chairs watching the tide go in out. We found some beautiful pieces of sea glass and listened to the harbor bell daily. If you are looking for peace and quiet, relaxation and tranquility then you’ll find it here!

I’m very late leaving this review- we stayed in June 2023. My firends and I stayed here for vacation. This home was awesome- spacious, easy walkability within Bar Harbor, good bedroom:bathroom ratio. Having a parking pot was great, too, as parking in bar Harbor can be an issue. This was a lovingly and thoughtfully maintained home and was perfect for our stay in Bar Harbor, with lots of extra touches. We have been coming for many years and like to stay in the village, close to shops and restaurants. This house managed to be in a perfectly central location while also being in a quiet neighborhood. We walked everywhere and it was great not to have to deal with any downtown parking! Space for our cars was perfect and the annex was a very convenient extra space for us. We agree with some other reviews that the mattresses leave a lot to be desired, and after a two week stay we were glad that we had at least brought our own pillows.

From The Knowles Company: We’re so glad you enjoyed the house, but sorry you didn’t find the mattresses comfortable. Mattresses are such a subjective item, it’s hard to get it right for everyone! But we have alerted the owners and they will re-assess them this fall!

This cottage was perfect for a family looking to be close to Bar Harbor/Acadia, but still wanting quiet, waterfront privacy. Our kids loved exploring the pebble beach at lowtide, and seeing the wildlife (daily we saw seals and eagles). The cottage was well equipped with all essentials, clean, and had beautiful/natural landscaping. Even if you decide to go with another unit…stick with Knowles! Their staff was extraordinarily helpful and communicated well. Skip the VRBO or Airbnb and go with Knowles, you won’t regret it.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Somes Harbor House. Great central location, very comfortable and charming house. Loved the back deck and our dog enjoyed it as well. There was an apple tree on the corner of the property and we saw a buck one morning enjoying the fallen apples. Short drive to all the great adventures on MDI. Artists Cove, simply put, is heaven on earth. We have been going to this house for 20 years and can’t imagine our summers without this piece of paradise. The view of the ocean, the gorgeous rocky cove, the scents of salt water and pine, the quiet, the birds, the flowers, the sunsets, the starry skies, the peace. We spent a wonderful week at Long Pond View in mid-August along with 3 other couples. Plenty of parking for 4 vehicles and the house was large enough that we didn’t feel at all crowded. The location was perfect – right across the road from the northern end of Long Pond with swimming and kayaking, and only a short drive to other points of interest in the National Park. Perhaps the only drawback was that only 3 of the bathrooms were full baths but overall, not that much of an inconvenience for our group. A previous review suggested that the downstairs smelled musty so we kept the dehumidifier running and AC on while we were there and did not notice any mustiness. Kitchen was well stocked, closet space was more than adequate, and there is a fenced in back yard, deck with grill, and overhang to store kayaks and bikes out of the rain. Overall great place.

Great house. It had everything we were looking for. The kitchen was well stocked. The three bedrooms and bed arrangements provides for a lot of flexibility. The beds slept very comfortably. The living and dining area are open to each other and provided for evening get togethers. The washer and dryer was very convenient and located in an office area equipped with a desk, monitor and printer. The deck with its fire pit and table and chairs were great for the cool evenings. Conveniently located from downtown Southwest harbor and a quick drive to Bar Harbor and all parts of Acadia. When we return to Acadia, we will definitely hope this house is available. Every little detail was just perfect and I probably don’t have enough words to express how much I loved staying there. I have been renting in NEH for 20 years and must say that this wonderful home has everything without being too much. From the special touches like the stacked firewood waiting upon our arrival, to the simple garden with flowers still in bloom…I appreciate all of the little details that make this iconic!

The Parsonage house was a great fit for our family. It was comfortable and spacious enough for our family of seven adults, and the cozy dining and living areas brought us together for memorable meals, game nights and people watching from our front porch. The beds were comfy and energized us for our days hiking and biking the trails in Acadia. The location couldn’t be better. We loved this house.

Golden Cove Cottage was as promised. Everything about this house is clean, new and just works perfectly. The interior is immaculate. This is also a convenient location providing a short walk to SW Harbor and the Island Explorer bus stops, and a short drive to many west side trails. Even the drive to Bar Harbor and the Loop is only about 20 minutes. So, I highly recommended the Golden Cove Cottage. Thank you!! We loved it.

We enjoyed our stay in this well-equipped, clean and comfortable house. We knew the street it is on is a busy street so we hear traffic while on the deck (with great view), but were pleasantly surprised by the quiet inside the house. There is a feeling of solitude here as well as nice proximity to town.

Our stay was fantastic. It was everything needed for our hiking needs for Acadia National Park. Only minutes from the Park, and the harbor. Both are walkable. The Lighthouse Inn is also walkable for dinner. The home was perfect for our dogs, and has a well equipped kitchen for cooking most nights in. We typically worked in the morning, hiked, had a beer or two and ate dinner at the house. We really enjoyed our stay here & would come back!

I have the pleasure of staying at this property in the Fall and Summer seasons. The home is an architectural marvel set on the waterfront of a beautiful section of Frenchman Bay. The house is clean and airy. It has a large kitchen and seating area. Filled with tasteful decor and an extensive collection of books. We especially enjoyed the floating dock. Experience the beauty of the rugged Maine coast in comfort and style!

We loved the very private Acadia Lodge! The views were gorgeous. The decks on 3 sides of the house meant beautiful views no matter where you were sitting. In the morning the sun came up over the mountain across the sound. You could hear and see the birds calling and the lobster boats chugging past. We felt very comfortable at this house – like a home away from home. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out and be comfortable while all being together. The dock added a place to hang out and go on the kayaks, go fishing, or jump in the water to cool off. Bonus was to meet the owner, super nice man who gave us some history of the area.

The house looks pretty ordinary from the front but inside it is very nice. The pictures are accurate. My family loved the electric reclining sofas when relaxing in the evening. Nice kitchen for cooking in great location for SW Harbor but a bit of a drive to get to main destinations on MDI. About 20 minutes to Bar Harbor and 30 minutes to Sand Beach. As noted in the details bring a lighter if you want to use the fire pit. Originally found this on Vrbo, but did some research and found through Knowles which saved some $ booking direct through Knowles. Worked with Nikki at Knowles who was super nice and helpful.

This is the second time we’ve rented Lupine Hill; once with an extended family group and once sharing it with friends/family. It works beautifully for a large or small group. It’s spacious, comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need, the patio is a wonderful spot to hang out surrounded by a beautiful natural garden and flowers. The location is also very convenient for the getting anywhere on the island. We hope to back many times in the future!

My family and I drove up the street and driveway to Carrolls Hill House and were grinning ear to ear! It was more akin to pulling into a campground than your typical home. The house is essentially set in a beautiful “campsite” surrounded by tall pines, moss covered granite and the sounds of nature to still your soul. The house itself was clean and well kept. We loved the exposed wood ceiling which gave it a cabin-like feel. We also enjoyed the windows and sliding doors to catch the island breeze. Many hotdogs and smores were cooked over the fire pit. We had a clear night to see the Milky Way and a few meteors zipping by. Knowles was great to work with. They were super friendly and made the process really easy. Would definitely stay here again!

This is a very comfortable house in a great location. The house is fully equipped with a great kitchen, nice deck, comfortable furniture, books, etc. A short stroll to the shops and restaurants of Southwest Harbor and local walks, and short drive to everything else MDI and Acadia National Park have to offer. Our third or fourth time staying in Wesley and we would definitely go back!

We recently got back from a week at Tide Race. We had 3 generations of our family come together from Virginia to enjoy the beauty of the Maine coast. Tide Race was a beautiful treat for our entire family. My young daughters especially loved the kayaks and we went out on the water every day of our visit (even the one rainy day). It’s proximity to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park were perfect. The views were a wonderful way to wake up every day. We highly recommend this wonderful home.

This is a lovely property, a beautiful site and architecturally interesting home. It was great for a family, lots of room to run around and usable kitchen and dining area. The only drawback is that the 4th bedroom is really more of a bunk room/basement feel for use by kids. We thoroughly enjoyed the property and the location is convenient to either side of the island.

From The Knowles Company: Thank you for your feedback! Based on your comment regarding the lower level, which we agree is more of a rec room rather than a bedroom, we have modified this listing to reflect just three bedrooms, not four. We look forward to your return to the MDI area!

We stayed for a week with our son, daughter and 2 grandchildren. The views from anywhere in the house or on anywhere on the property were absolutely amazing! We used the kayaks (provided) on a daily basis and made friends with a courious harbor seal. An eagle had a nest on the property which we enjoyed watching as well. The grandkids enjoyed searching for crabs and other sealife at low tide. The property was well appointed and had all we needed. The Knowles Company was attentive to any needs we had during our stay.

We loved our stay at Goodson Cottage; much so that it was difficult to leave! There is pride in ownership!

The access to Seal Cove Pond was amazing! And the view of Bernard Mountain from the dock was beautiful! We really enjoyed use of the canoe and kayaks! There were plenty of life jackets available. We also fished off the dock and caught quite a few sun fish and perch one morning. We loved hearing and seeing the loons out on Seal Cove Pond.

The beds and sofas were comfortable. We enjoyed being on the quiet (western) side of the island. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and bathroom.

The cottage was clean and well-kempt.

There are hair dryers in the bathrooms. We weren’t sure if there’d be any, so we did pack one.

We loved utilizing the games and puzzles on hand, especially checkers!

It’s about a 20-25 min drive to Acadia/Bar Harbor from the cottage; we didn’t mind the scenic drive to the park.

We’d love to stay here again in the future and would recommend Goodson Cottage to family and friends!

We loved our week at 14 Wicker Way! It is private, quiet, and lovely. We loved being awakened each morning to the amazing songs of the White-Throated Sparrow and the Winter Wren! The cottage itself is nice and spacious and open, and the decor is great. And it’s hard to beat the Quiet Side of MDI. We enjoyed the proximity to Southwest Harbor and its shops and restaurants–we had good meals at Eat-a-Pita (breakfast), Cafe Drydock, and a fantastic dinner at Red Sky. We loved being 5 minutes from Bass Harbor too and our fav restaurant of Seafood Ketch where we dined x3 on the deck. Also nice and close to Seawall that we visited x2, Ship Harbor Nature Trail, and Wonderland. Close also to St Saveur that we hiked Monday morning of our week. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Hope to be back some day.

Our family of five adults and two babies returned to Tigsacolle for the second consecutive year. The rooms are spacious, and the yard is huge. We enjoyed a few dinners and breakfasts at the huge dining room table that could fit 18 or 20 people. All the appliances worked fine. The yard was great for barbecuing and watching the kids run around. We love Southwest Harbor and appreciate that the cottage is a short walk away. There are several great restaurants and shops there, and it’s a short drive to Bar Harbor. Maybe it will become our “go-to cottage” in beautiful Maine.

We were a large family, aged 4 to 74, and every one found The Ledges to be beyond amazing. Each person found their favorite niche and were able to read, relax, play pool, work on a puzzle, or just watch the birds and boats go by from one of many decks or the dock. There were more than enough things to do in the well-appointed house but many would go off to walk to the nearby village and local beach or go for a mountain hike during the day and each found it very relaxing to return to this conveniently located house. As a family, we would congregate for meals in the lovely open kitchen and dining area. Everyone had a seat and there was plenty of room for a multitude of cooks. At the end of our stay, when we gathered for a family photo on the top deck, the eagle flew right over our heads! This visit to Maine was magnificent and memorable due to in no small part to the wonderful Ledges property. The Knowles Company took very good care of us and lived up to their motto of “distinctive properties and legendary service.” So thankful for their assistance in creating such an amazing family vacation. My only recommendation is that there be directions provided for the somewhat complicated master showers. We were never quite sure which lever did what, but that was a minor point in an otherwise extraordinary house.

We enjoyed a near perfect vacation with three generations of family at Frankie’s Place, a secluded cabin in the woods above the rugged shores of Somes Sound in the very middle of MDI …convenient to everything. The cabin is light and bright with cathedral ceilings, walls of glass, original art work, and memorabilia from around the world. The comfy furniture invites family conversation, reading in nooks, and meditative views of nature while the Buddha overseeing the cabin instills an aura of peace over all. The large living/dining area is warmed by a massive stone fireplace and plenty of dry firewood stored under the house. The 1970’s galley kitchen contains every specialized tool one might imagine. With the good internet connection we were able to work from home for five days in this very special hide-away! We were all pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the firm foam beds. The winding dirt road to the cabin provided a nice woodsy walk, while a quick drive takes you to many trailheads including the recently opened trails at the Garden Preserve. A wonderfully restorative vacation was had by all!

This was our first trip to Maine. We loved the house, its location, and the endless opportunities for recreation in the area. The pictures of the house don’t do it justice. It’s charming, spacious, and well appointed. The location can’t be beat. A less than ten minute walk into Bar Harbor and a 15 minute bike ride to Acadia National Park and the carriage roads for biking or walking. The rental agent who helped us was extremely helpful in helping us find the house which met our needs and recommending things to do in the area, including a variety of activities and restaurants. We have been to Maine many times and we would have to say that the bright and sunny Seabird Carriage House has become our new favorite of all the places we’ve stayed on MDI. It was immaculate on our arrival, the high level of craftsmanship was evident throughout the house, and the stunning kitchen had everything we needed and more. We appreciated the many thoughtful touches including the extensive and detailed guest information document and the labeling of light switches. The house sits very close to Main Street in Southwest Harbor but the benefit is that it means only a relatively short walk to the shops and restaurants of town center (not to mention a 5 minute walk to Milagro’s, an excellent coffee shop!) This cottage will be our first choice when we return to MDI!

There are many beautiful seating areas with ocean views both inside and outside. I would absolutely recommend this home!

My wife and I, along with our two children (ages 8 and 10), stayed for a week in mid-June at Three Moons. The cabin is simple, but had everything we could possibly have needed need. The dock is a great place to relax, hear loons and star gaze. The cabin was clean, and well maintained. The fire place was great on cool evenings. The only issue was that we were unable to connect the phone or internet. But, once the initial discomfort passed, this proved to be quite enjoyable! The map and list of favorite activities in the cabin were great! We enjoyed kayaking on Long Pond, hiking on both the east and west side of the island, lobster dinners in town and biking on the carriage roads. Each day was filled with adventure and beauty. We’re already planning our return to MDI. Thanks for opening your cabin to us!

Inside the home it is well stocked with everything that your family would need to enjoy a vacation. The Ledges was perfect for our family of 15, ages 11 to 80! Lots of room, plenty nooks for reading and relaxing. Well stocked kitchen, great appliances, water pressure, hot water! View to die for, although I recommend cutting down 1 tree that partially blocks the view on the lower deck. When we needed life preservers, the caretaker was there with them immediately! It might be a bit warm without air conditioning in July and August but our weather was perfect in May and June.

From The Knowles Company: We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay! Sorry the tree was obstructing your view. Because of its proximity to the shoreline, the owners aren’t legally able to remove it. And besides, the local ospreys and eagles love to use it as a lookout perch for fish in the harbor!

We had a wonderful stay at Vince Cottage. The cottage is a quiet location with a beautiful view of the pond from the master bedroom, living room, screened in porch and deck. We were there for Memorial Day Weekend, it was cool at the beginning of the week, but the cottage warmed up quickly and has a wood stove in addition to baseboard electric heat. The cottage had everything we needed. We weren’t sure if it was going to have a single cup brew option for our morning coffee but they had both, the option for a pot or single cup, so bring your coffee pods or ground coffee. They also have an espresso machine. We would definitely stay here again, it was clean and neat and very relaxing.

It was nice to get back to the quiet side of the island again for our 2 week stay in September/October. On the days that were warm and beautiful, we enjoyed the back porch of Camp Deux and the beautiful view. We saw a bald eagle from the house and the pier, and saw and heard several loons throughout our stay. This home is lovely. It was clean and welcoming when we got there, and it had all the things that we needed, including the feel of a camp, but with one important addition. Heat! This year we needed to use the heat several days and wow was that nice! Not only was the house warm when it was 38 degrees outside, but the warm floors were wonderful! We all took off our shoes so that we could enjoy the warmth of the floors. Thank you also for allowing us to bring our dogs with us again. We could not have a vacation without them. We loved this property! The view was gorgeous, the kitchen was well-stocked–probably the finest kitchen I’ve ever experienced. Others had left spices and coffee behind and we obliged by leaving a few things as well to help other visitors get off on the right foot. We used the fire pit a couple of nights. The primary suite up in the loft has a comfortable king size bed and a great bathroom. The main floor has a Queen bed in the room along with a nice bath in the main hall, which was nice for the other couple we were traveling with to have that as their space and our space was upstairs. Acadia is about 25 minutes away and we spent quite bit of time there, stopping to buy live lobsters on the way back so we could cook them up for dinner. A great lobster pot and all the lobster utensils were wonderful to use! We even met the family down the road with their road side stand of live lobsters and found out quickly that people are very nice in this area. An extra blanket or 2 would have been nice to take outdoors in the cool mornings since we were here in October, just before a lot of places shut down for the season. The privacy this home provided was wonderful. Highly recommend!

From the Owners: “Thanks for the suggestions about the outdoor throw blankets! We’ll be sure to set them out for future guests!”

Personally, we preferred being in Northeast Harbor as it it more low key and less busy. There’s a great coffee shop in town, The Salt Market, and the Nor’Easter has great lobster rolls. The only “downside” is that the bathroom is small – adequate for one adult or two small children – requiring a small shower. That said, it is manageable. My husband is 6’1” and his shoulders were above the top of the shower curtain, but the water pressure and temp were great. It encourages short showers (no pun intended!). We’d definitely come back again!

We loved our stay at Gowen Cottage! The home was clean, convenient to town and on a nice quiet street. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor, this is a great house to choose!

Very quiet location with off street parking. Super fast internet. Great first floor walk in shower. Well equipped kitchen. Better bring your own streaming device as TV is extremely limited. No ESPN, etc. As Senior Citizens, there is no handrail to enter the front porch from a very narrow stair. A real challenge. The banister upstairs is only partial. What you see in the picture is only what’s available. A handrail on the opposite wall would be nice. The addition of these accessibility issues would make this a good rental for any age folks. Our rating reflects our concerns.

Note from the Owners: “We share your concerns about the exterior railing, and have petitioned the town to make an exception to their setback rules in order for us to legally install one. As for the interior railing, we will take that into consideration as well! Thanks for pointing it out to us.”

Lovely home, quiet street with easy access to town and Acadia. Walkable to the grocery store or restaurants. We also felt the beds were somewhat uncomfortable. The living room was comfortable enough and we brought a streaming device to stream Netflix on the television. The annex is adorable and allowed the girls some space. The kitchen was well stocked with appropriate cooking utensils for meals at home. Finally, this cottage was incredibly clean and felt very welcoming! I would highly recommend this property!!

Bagatelle was an incredible place to host a family vacation with 3 generations present. The house is large, beautifully decorated, and very well stocked. Our toddler loved running around the house and there were even toys for her to play with. With her early bedtime, we enjoyed evenings on the front porch under blankets or at the fire pit in the yard. It was an easy drive into town, but with limited parking, we opted to walk most of the time (15-20 mins depending on how far you go). Acadia is just a short drive away, so this is the perfect home base. You are secluded enough with a yard and beautiful views, that you never feel guilty about spending too much time at the house. Thank you to our host for making us feel so welcome! This was truly a memorable vacation.

Beautiful, comfortable, clean, great amenities, and great location. We were fortunate enough to be able to spend 3 weeks here and treasured every minute. Close to MDI, Schoodic Point, and Blue Hill. It was great to come home and spend the evenings at the fire pit watching the sunset, Used the outside lobster pot, the grill, and the kayaks. Really couldn’t ask for a better house. It was really hard to leave and we’re looking forward to coming back.

The quiet side of Acadia has become a favorite for us and Seal Cove Pond is our preferred location. It’s incredibly quiet, except for the call of the loons, which is one of the draws. Goodson Cottage is light, roomy and comfortable–highly recommend it!

We recently completed a week’s stay at Goodson Cottage for the second year in a row. We came back for all the great features we experienced before: the location on quiet Seal Cove Pond, on the quiet side of the Island, and three floors – a floor for each member of our party to have privacy and comfort. We knew going in that the internet was tricky (past experience!), but it’s vacation, so we were ok with that. The furnishings are comfy and well-cared for; nice enough to be great as a place to relax and be ourselves, not so fancy that we were worried about using anything! One member of our party brought a racing kayak this year, and was happy to have the pond handy for a midnight moonlight kayak paddle…and it was cool enough this week that we got a chance to have a fire in the wood stove. Such a cozy place to stay, and convenient to everything we wanted to do during our week at MDI. Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved On the Sound. It was a beautiful, quiet and peaceful site and the house was well appointed and had all the necessary cooking tools. We saw great birds as there was a late fall migration of warblers and I also saw 2 snowshoe hares (not yet in their winter white color) and of course eagles and loons! We had a fabulous dinner at Abels. The outdoor shower was a hoot and fit our needs perfectly. There is lots of space for 2 people and we didn’t need to go upstairs for anything as the first floor was perfect. The pottery, artwork and ceramics were wonderful.

We had a wonderful time at Brightholme. Loved everything about the house, especially the front porch. There were four generations of our family staying here (14 people) and plenty of room to spread out or hang out together. The location is perfect, easy access to both the Shore Path and downtown Bar Harbor. The house was well stocked, clean and the bedrooms comfortable. The management company was responsive and helpful. Would definitely recommend a stay at Brightholme.

I have been renting vacation homes on the island for close to thirty years. This property is beyond amazing. The setting is quintessential Maine. There are walking paths through the forested grounds, a gravel beach and a float at the end of dock. The home itself is full of natural light, beautifully decorated and maintained. Sitting on the Adirondack chairs on the back deck with the view of Frenchman’s Bay is a delight. I highly recommend this property for the finest vacation experience possible.

I rented this house for my family to spend a week in and around Acadia. It’s perfect. Great walkable location to a playground and downtown Bar Harbor and a grocery, kid friendly dishes and cups, a pack n play and other thoughtful touches that make it really welcoming to fams with young kids. Highly recommend!

The place was very nice. It is very challenging to find the first day especially at night time. It seems as though you are driving on a hiking trail. You actually will cross one of the hiking trails in Acadia when approaching the driveway. We had a very lovely time. Everything was as expected.

From The Knowles Company: So glad you enjoyed your stay! Sorry you had a difficult time finding the house! It’s true that its driveway entrance isn’t marked well, but that is due to the fact that Acadia National Park, which the drive crosses as you noted, understandably prohibits any conspicuous signage.

We had a great time staying at Blue Eden. The location is perfect. We loved the outdoor space (front porch and grill area). Everything was very well maintained and the kitchen is well stocked. My only comment is that we needed more towels (esp dish and hand towels) as we had a very large group. We would definitely stay here again.

From The Knowles Company: We’re so glad you had a great stay! And thank you for your suggestions about towels. We have made the owner aware, and she plans on adding more moving forward. We hope to see you again next summer!

Our stay at Redwood was wonderful! Redwood is a lovely old home well representing a bygone era. The grounds are beautiful and the views are magnificent! The house lives very comfortably and the tempur-pedic mattress in the Master bedroom was a real treat. The staff at The Knowles Company are wonderful to work with and are very professional. We are looking forward to our next stay at Redwood in 2023!

This cottage is wonderful in many ways, especially it’s quiet location. If you looking for a utilitarian experience, Wicker Way serves that need. The beds are comfortable, however the living room furniture is not! We were disappointed after a long day of hiking not to have a relaxing, cozy, place to talk and wind down. With just a little improvement this cottage could be more attractive and comfortable.

We enjoyed the house, thought it was in an excellent location, and appreciated all of the cooking tools and amenities! The washer and dryer worked well, and the cottage was spotless when we arrived. I’ve rented cottages that have a small supply of cutlery and a few dishes, cracked and perhaps not so clean. Wicker Way had a generous supply of everything we needed and it all was in good condition. We also really enjoyed the evening sky, the proximity to the water, the neighborhood, and our entire stay. It was just glorious.

Tigsacolle is a great old-fashioned (in a good way!) Maine cottage, with lots of space for our large group of five adults and two babies. There was plenty of privacy for everyone, and the home has everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. Bayview Cottage was just perfect. Please pass along our gratitude to the owners for allowing us to stay at their warm, cozy, beautiful camp. We loved all the wood, the decor, and the mid-mod Danish touches. It had absolutely everything we needed. My boys (and dogs) and I enjoyed every minute there. The stunning sunsets and stargazing from the deck. Watching the loons fish in the bay. Playing cards on the porch. Skipping stones and tidepooling at the beach. It was the perfect home base for hiking, kayaking, and exploring both sides of the island. Can’t tell you how much the peacefulness of Bayview Cottage was a blessing for us. Thank you.

The house and location were perfect! We felt fortunate to be able to stay here. The view from the deck out across the water was just fantastic. What a beautiful, well-appointed home. We enjoyed watching our local professional baseball team at night on the first floor space. The kitchen was well equipped and the dining/living room space was perfect with the view of the bay. The lower patio and upper deck were great places to relax and hear the water lap the shore line. The master suite on the third floor was amazing with its large walk-in closet, spacious bathroom and loft area. And the other bedroom on the second floor was a great spaces as well. And there were so many different places on the property to enjoy the outdoors. We found ourselves saying that we were so happy that we contacted Knowles and had the opportunity to work with you. Thanks for guiding us to the perfect home and location. I will be in touch about renting it again.

Our family spent 10 days at Somes Sailaway in August 2022. The house was beautiful; well equipped with plenty of space and gorgeous views of the Sound from inside and from the decks. The lobster pot, grill and fire pit were often used. We loved the water access, with a dock and boat mooring. We sunned, swam and rented a motorboat to explore the Sound and Harbors and watch the seals. Hiking at Acadia Mountain and other trails were nearby. It’s a great location for exploring Acadia, but away from the crowds and on the quiet side of MDI. The Knowles Agent communicated with us frequently and was available for any questions. Our relatives visiting from Europe are already asking when they can return. I can still see the views…

My wife and I spent a very enjoyable week at Three Moons. The dock and lakefront deck are what make it such a great camp. The dock is spacious and sturdy and we had two boats tied up to it — a sailboat and a canoe. The camp is at a nice windy spot on Long Pond. On a cool evening a fire in the brick fireplace is very cozy. There’s even easy hand-launching of boats from a sort of boat ramp. Potential tenants should note that the neighbors are very close and the interior is very simple. The bath is tiny with a small sink. The electric kitchen stove is older, and there are only basic kitchen utensils. For example, we found no mixing bowls for batters or salads. But, all in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our week in Three Moons!

From The Knowles Company: Thank you for the recommendations on improving the kitchen inventory! We have asked the homeowners to add a few more items to their kitchen tools for 2023. Your suggestions are very helpful!

My family rented this place at the beginning of August and had the best time! This was our first time in Maine and it did not disappoint. The house is beautiful, clean, and well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a blender for our morning smoothies, a full size coffee maker, and a corkscrew for our evening beverages. The owners provided some nice touches. I appreciated the laundry baskets in each closet. The windows across the back of the house made for a stunning view of the water, and the deck was the perfect place to drink our morning coffee. The kids loved scrambling over the rocks at low tide and searching for shells and crabs. We watched lobster boats pull in their traps in the mornings and even spotted seals a couple times during the week. The water was cold, and a few people in our party did a “polar plunge” most mornings. The drive to the island was not bad, and we ventured there most days for food, hikes, and a couple excursions. We found the Traveling Lobster to have the best lobster, and Udder Heaven’s ice cream was perhaps the best I’ve ever had, and they have so many flavors. Evenings around the fire pit were the perfect way to cap off our evenings. We spent a full week there, and my daughter literally cried when we had to leave. What a fantastic place to get away!

Our family of four (two adults and two teens) enjoyed a wonderful week at the Goodson Cottage. We were a bit concerned that the cottage would be worn from the pictures, but it was in impeccable shape. The furnishings are older, but the cottage has been very well maintained. And, perhaps more importantly, the cottage was spotless. You could eat off of the floor. We loved all of the games and puzzles. The owner also has organized and labeled everything so we had maps and guidebooks on hand. The WiFi never worked for us, but the realtor told me it was spotty so it wasn’t an issue. Our hotspots worked well and we had cell coverage. Another plus, the water is warm. We loved the swimming deck as well as the kayaks and canoe. As other renters have stated, the house is about 20 minutes from everything, which is pretty much the case with many houses in Maine. There is a lobster place around the corner that also sells fresh fish. Otherwise, it is remote. We purchased groceries right before we got to MDI, fresh fish at the place around the corner, and we were set. Ample cooking supplies, grill, and basic spices. Definitely will go back again.

We couldn’t have picked a better place to spend a week in Bar Harbor with our three grown daughters (and one boyfriend) than Hancock House. We shared good food and conversation around the outdoor patio table and walked the nearby shore path each night after dinner. The house was a cozy base for us to reenergize after our days spent hiking, biking, kayaking in nearby Acadia National Park and while enjoying the many charms of Bar Harbor. We have been to Bar Harbor for several summer vacations over the years. This was one of the best. Thanks to the owner for their hospitality and all the little touches that made our stay comfortable. Excellent house and KITCHEN. With 16 it was easy to prepare meals on the 10 burner stove for everyone. Plenty of seating. We rented a boat for the week and docked at the house. Perfect. Our first time to Acadia so I was a bit nervous about the location. It was perfect-easy to get to Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor and everywhere else. The location was lovely-private, gorgeous views, very serene. The house was perfect-good sized bedrooms, super fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds & furniture. Screened porch so pleasant, an entire unfinished basement with ping pong table and extra fridge. It was extremely hot in Maine the week we visited. Luckily, most rooms have ceiling fans, including all bedrooms. Plus a few extra. Also nights cooled down to the mid to high 60s so comfortable sleeping. We enjoyed taking dips in the cove at high tide, watching herons and even seagulls. The water view is very visible from the house, true eye candy. We were able to have an active trip to Acadia National Park, hiking a number of trails, visiting Sandy Beach and freshwater Echo Lake were refreshing. Ate lobster just about every day (Rodick’s in Southwest Harbor was our favorite). Thank you to the owners and The Knowles Company team for providing an excellent vacation spot!

We read at night in the screened in porch listening to the wind through the trees. It worked really well for us, the wifi and cell service were great for working and there was plenty of space. We enjoyed the shorefront for swimming at high tide and it was quite private. Mimi’s had everything we needed. All we packed were our clothes and bikes. There were games for kids and adults. The third bedroom has bunk beds for the kids. There were three young adults (18,19,20) that loved the 3rd bedroom. It was like there own private suite!! The location was perfect in being away from all the hustle of Bar Harbor, yet close enough to go there and enjoy all it had to offer. We will not soon forget our time at Willowbrook!!

My extended family of 9 rented “The Hillside” property in June 2022 and had a marvelous time. We had the main house and the roadside cabin. The property was in good shape, great kitchen with all the amenities for the meal get together, excellent playroom and toys for the little ones, comfortable beds and decent bathrooms. We loved the quiet property with tennis, walks on the beach and pier, and even a quick jump in the pool (50F !) . 30-45 minute drive to NP and Bar Harbor, great local restaurants, also did lobster boat tour at Southwest Harbor. Great experience, would definitely recommend. We enjoyed the heat relief, being from Texas!

This is a magical home made more magical by gorgeous gardens (including a dog-safe side yard); cozy and pretty decor; partial views of the harbor; a lovely neighborhood; and proximity to all the elegance and scenic beauty available at the Claremont (croquet, Harry’s Bar, and unparalleled views of St. Sauveur and Flying Mountains over the water from Batson Fish Camp and Little Fern). The owner’s sweet, thoughtful attention to details made Napier Cottage all the more comfortable and welcoming: homemade cookies and muffins, bread from Little Notch and breakfast fare waiting for us on arrival; the wonderful Guest Gardens (lettuce, basil, herbs, nasturtiums and tomatoes in season) in pots outside the dining room door; an incredibly organized kitchen; meticulous anticipation of guest questions and needs in the instructions and materials provided (maps, ferry schedules etc.) that were of great help to us in getting around the island despite our having come to MDI all our lives; and very specially, the extraordinary kindness and helpfulness of the owner herself. The only thing I would find difficult here would be entertaining on a large scale, given that the kitchen sink is fairly small. For up to six people, we managed well; for more ambitious gatherings we used the Claremont as Base Camp II for feedings, and could not have been happier with the arrangement. We are incredibly grateful to have found this home and come to know its lovely and accomplished owner. It’s been many an age since we had such a relaxing vacation and we hope to join the roster of repeat renters who come back to this house again and again.

We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful week in Maine! Sea Ledges far exceeded our expectations. A beautiful historic home in the most picturesque setting. Evenings spent sitting around the fire pit, watching the boats sail in and out of the quiet harbor, mornings spent walking along the shore, admiring all the stones and sea life. Wonderful memories for 3 generations:)

We loved the location on the quieter side of the island and close to the back entrance to Acadia. Very nice rocky beach to sit out and watch boats go by or just hear the waves rolling over the rocks. The house worked well for us with 5 in our party. We used the loft area plus both bedrooms. We visited end of June and were able to get wonderful breezes and cool the house just by opening the windows and screen doors. We did have an issue with the smoke detectors repeatedly going off for no apparent reason multiple times during our visit but we made the rental company and owners aware and hopefully this is not an issue again in the future. When one of the beach benches broke during our stay, the owners had it replaced the next day. Very responsive.

From the Owners: Thanks for the heads up on the smoke detectors. Our electrician confirmed that they were functioning fine, but that the fog and humidity triggered them. Closing the windows and doors will help mitigate that from happening in the future!

We loved Seaglass Cottage. It was on a cute street within walking distance to everything we needed including the grocery store. The house was exactly as described in the photos and one of the most well equipped homes of any of the vacation homes we have stayed. I’m giving it 4 stars because at the very least the beds need mattress toppers, the living room furniture was not comfortable, and we would have loved a smart TV for the teens who wanted Netflix access on our one rainy/cold day. Otherwise, everything was great!

From The Knowles Company: Thanks for your suggestions regarding mattress toppers and a smart TV. Sorry the living room furniture wasn’t to your preference. We have passed along your recommendations to the homeowners!

Our extended family of 6 adults and 2 children spent a week late June, early July here and we are still basking in the glow of this magical place! The house was perfectly appointed and set up for three couples and two children, with expansive views from many windows. The huge lawn, surrounded by lovely gardens, was perfect for kite flying and games. The waterfront was full of tidepools with just enough sand for digging and spots to swim and launch kayaks. (We had two delivered from Acadia Paddles). We spent countless hours on the large deck, lounging and eating. We loved being on the “quiet side” of MDI, with plenty to do nearby and this sanctuary of a spot to return too.

Stayed here for a week with me, my husband, our two kids and my parents. It was the perfect setting and a short drive to anything we needed to access on MDI. Pros: there is a half bath in the first floor as well as two full baths. This wasn’t mentioned in the description and it was really nice to have. Close to everything so it was easy to come back for lunch between activities. Comfortable home. Overall we had a great stay. Cons: Parking was difficult. There is a driveway but it’s on a busy turn so it’s hard to back out safely. Grill was not clean so we did not attempt to use. Also there was a watermelon on the counter when we got there that we didn’t touch. Kind of odd.

From The Knowles Company: A watermelon?? That’s a first! We suspect the former tenants left it behind and the cleaners didn’t know what to do with it. Sorry that wasn’t taken a way! Also sorry the grill wasn’t properly cleaned. We will remind the cleaners to address that next time. Yes, that driveway is a little dodgy. The owner finds that backing into it makes things a little easier for getting in and out.

Our family had an amazing stay at Pebble. It is the perfect location on the island. We could walk ten feet out the door and be in/on Long Pond and you could hardly tell there were neighbors both because of the trees and because it was so quiet. We loved watching all the kayakers and paddle borders, but it wasn’t ever busy or loud. It was a 5 minute drive to our favorite hike (Beech Mountain) and only about 20 minutes to the Park Loop Road in Acadia. The cabin had everything we needed. We were able to cook our own meals and were thankful for the grill. In the cabin the pictures, the red futon has been replaced with a small couch which we really appreciated. We are so thankful we stayed at Pebble. If you’re looking to really get away, this is the place for you!

Our family of 13 visited in early June 2022 and the house was more than we had anticipated. Incredible location, beautiful views of Bar Island, and quiet! We had plenty of room to spread out. The house was well stocked. We enjoyed the history and charm of the home. It did take us a day or so to figure out which staircase to use to get to our bedrooms but it was worth it! Thanks for sharing your lovely home with our family, we hope to come back to stay.

We loved the location of Acadia Lodge, not to mention the view. It was so quiet with stunning vistas everywhere you look. The house itself was very comfortable. We managed to get on Somes Sound for a day of kayaking, and we were able to find the Hall Quarry shortcut to the Acadia Mtn Trail, so hardly had to drive anywhere except for groceries.

This was a wonderful home for our family vacation! Our kids stayed in the loft and we enjoyed the private bedroom. The outdoor shower was a highlight! We hung hammocks in the yard, enjoyed canoeing, and watched the beautiful sun sets by the water. A short walk to Southwest harbor shops and restaurants. Really enjoyed being able to do the short drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor and then return to the privacy and serenity of Treehouse! A magnificent place to spend our vacation!

We stayed at Sunscape the last week of May; the house is beautiful and well maintained, tastefully decorated and the cleanest rental we have ever seen. The neighborhood is quiet, and the proximity to the carriage roads is a big plus. It is on our short list for future rentals.

Beth represented us when buying land and had so many insights about all of the available properties on the island. We stayed in Goodson Cottage during the second week of October 2021, and had a lovely time. The home was clean and comfortable, and had plenty of room for us to spread out and relax; each of the three of us had their own floor for sleeping, with our own bathrooms. The setting is amazing – so private and quiet, with a short walk to beautiful Seal Cove Pond; we watched sunset there, and even got up very early one morning to watch the sun rise over Bernard Mountain; it was magical! The location is perfect, as we enjoy being away from the crowds on the busy side of the Island…but it’s close enough to drive to any hike we wanted to do within 30 minutes. It was great coming back to our “home” at the end of a day out on the trails, to a quiet and cozy place to gather for food and games. Two things to be aware of: the pictures are accurate – there are no curtains or other window coverings on the many windows! Not necessarily a “visibility” issue, because the home is so private, but if you don’t like sunlight in the early morning, bring eye shades! Also, even though the time there was a getaway from ordinary life, there were times when the spotty internet service was a real downer – especially when we were trying to book reservations for driving up Cadillac Mountain! So…be prepared for occasional frustration with the internet service (the first time I’ve encountered this difficulty in the many years and places I’ve stayed on MDI).

We enjoyed our week at Imladris. This is a beautiful home. It is handsome in architecture and nicely furnished. There is plenty of common space. The beds were comfortable, so nice to have a supportive mattress without the fluffy toppers everyone seems to be fond of using these days. The kitchen was very well stocked with utensils and food staples.

The house sits in a private neighborhood. The property is very well maintained and quiet. There is a short walk on a right of way to Norwood Cove which was wonderful to see.
There were one or two small issues that arose, but they were minor and were taken care of immediately by the caretaker and staff. Communication was very good.

We would enjoy staying here again on a return trip to Acadia.

My wife and I stayed here the first week of Oct 2021. Never in my life did I think I would love a place outside of the south but this is it. I could truly live at Island Sky. Not all is perfect but quite close. The only bad parts are the bedroom is upstairs and is an A frame room. You have to bend over to get into the bed if you are over 5’7. The bathroom is also a bit tight so “big people” such as my wife and I have some difficulties. All that said, thank you to the owners of Island Sky and I would go back in a heartbeat regardless of my difficulties I mentioned. I love this place!!!

Somes Sailaway was AMAZING! It was so hard to leave. The views were spectacular and there was an incredible amount of space for us. It was our very first trip to Maine and surely not our last! It will be hard to ever find anything to top or even match the feeling at Somes Sailaway. We appreciated all of the amenities, but truly the views and dock access were our most favorite. And it was so accessible to all of our adventuring through Acadia. The wildlife viewing was also incredible: seals and porpoises right off of the dock each morning, and we even saw a bald eagle on the property as well. Pretty spectacular!

Our family of 9 spent a lovely fall foliage week at this beautiful original Fred Savage cottage. The house was perfect – the renovated kitchen was outstanding for all our cooks, the dining room accommodated our family and games, we enjoyed the porch and beautiful view for morning coffee, remote working, oysters and cocktails and at every time of day. The living room was host to fireside games, and recounting our days, we completed two puzzles in the puzzle nook. Sleeping was very comfortable and we were plenty warm in October. We loved everything about this house and going back to an earlier time of gathering without distraction and just being a family. Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven with us. We’d love to come back!

We visited in October when the weather was cooler. We had a hard time leaving this house to explore Acadia. The tide race everyday was something to see. Seals, otters, deer, eagles – so great. And with the kayaks you get to experience everything up close. The central location to MDI was fantastic. We were never very far from where we wanted to go. We brought breakfast food but next time we’ll make more of our meals here. Great kitchen and again the view. The house was the right size for our group of 5 adults. Just had to plan showers as the hot water could handle 3 at once. I was nervous about booking with Knowles Company since I found them on the internet and had no idea who they were. Luckily we took a chance and will definitely book with them when we return. Hope I get a chance to visit Tide Race again, perhaps in the Summer.

With only a couple weeks until my birthday trip to go, my original AirBnB booking was cancelled by the host. I scrambled to find a new place, but options were sparse. I found Knowles company and Legacy during my panicked search. Nikki was great to work with for the booking. I still can’t figure how I got so lucky to have it open. The place itself was better than any of the AirBnBs I had been chasing. The view alone made me forget anything else going on in the world. There are 4 bedrooms and that was perfect for my party of 6 adults. As a history and house nerd, I just LOVED being in a place that felt so full of family history. The only slight downside was that we spent a lot more time in the car than we originally hoped for. With it being a birthday trip, I had a lot of dinners out and day excursions planned in the Bar Harbor area. But – I would love love love to come back to this place and have nothing planned except just looking out over the water and kayaking outside the front door and searching for beach glass. If you are on a lowkey vacation, this place truly can’t be beat.

We had a wonderful week at Seaglass Cottage. When we arrived the house was immaculate and beautifully decorated. There were nice extras in the home – cookies on the fully stocked coffee bar, handmade soaps in the bathroom and home made scones which were delicious! The home is stocked with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable vacation. The location was great for walking to the downtown area which our dogs enjoyed. Easy access to the back yard for the dogs as well. All of us – 2 legged and 4 legged had a fantastic vacation at Seaglass Cottage!

My husband and I stayed here for a week in October – I have been coming up to Acadia for nearly 50 years, so I’ve seen quite a few house rentals. The cottage was plenty big for a family of two to four. Both had closets and dressers to house clothing with extra blankets, pillows, etc. The kitchen was very good sized with seating for six and a full-sized fridge, stove, oven and a small microwave. Plenty of counter space given the extra table in the middle of the kitchen. Lots of pots and pans as well as dishes, glassware and silverware/kitchen gadgets. Living room was small but adequate, but might be tight if you have rambunctious children – there is a small yard but the house is near the end of a dead-end street so traffic is minimal. The single bathroom upstairs was a bit small, but the biggest issue for us there was the “shower” which is in a small claw-foot tub and the shower head is under 5′ high, which was a bit tough even for me (I am 5’4″ and my husband is 5’11”). Overall, the lighting in the house is fairly sparse and dim – if you require good lighting, for example to read at night, I’d recommend bringing a book light with you. Location was fine – a 10-minute walk to Northeast Harbor and 15 minute drive to Acadia National Park – and parking was off the street and roomy for our SUV. Overall, a relatively small but inexpensive rental in a good location on the east side of the island with some compromises in functionality for the lower price.

After missing our annual bike trip with friends last year, and moving to Maine on top of that, we were thrilled to have been able to get together early this month for a week of cycling, hiking, yoga on the lawn, kayaking, eating, and drinking around the fire pit. We had room for everyone and big meals together, we even learned how to steam lobster, everything we needed was at the house. The house is unique and beautiful, like some place out of an Edith Wharton novel. Sunrise views and listening to the lapping water, walking the bar at low tide, and quick walks to town for groceries, ice cream, and the ferry to Schoodic. One big plus is that the house is half a block from the new bike route into the park which is direct and safe. We rode all the Carriage roads and climbed to South Bubble. It was perfect and worth the trip our friends made out from Oregon.

This is a beautiful home that we were able to book last minute due to a cancellation. It is beautifully decorated and has many high end appliances and fixtures. The master bed was quite comfortable and the linens were luxurious. The path to the house from the driveway is quite challenging and steep with granite steps that get quite slippery when it rains. We loved the location which was conveniently located to Acadia NP and also being able to bring our senior dog with us! Wish there was more outdoor level space for her to do her business though. The deck was very relaxing and private.

My husband and I had an enjoyable stay. Of course for 2 people there was plenty of space! All in all it is a comfortable home. For us the highlight is the location of this cottage. It is in the heart of Bar Harbor but you wouldn’t know it. That’s because it is located on a square that is connected to a side street…so gets very little traffic and includes off street parking. After a day of driving around to see the sights and hiking in Acadia it is nice to be able to park our car in the evening at the cottage and then walk into town for a meal and to look at the shops. Always a delight.

We rented this house two years ago and would have been disappointed if we could not have found it available this year. Especially love the location – PRIMO! Not to mention how lovely and comfortable and well supplied it is. Hope we can return next year.

The house was beautiful, updated and exceptionally clean. The rooms were comfortable, not cluttered looking. The kitchen was well equipped. Great water pressure in the showers. We especially enjoyed morning coffee on the front porch. The location was absolutely perfect, a nice quite neighborhood and a short walk to town. We definitely look forward to our next stay at the Central Village house.

This house suited us fine. We especially appreciated the size and amount of seating available in the living room. The front porch with its view was just great! It should be noted to prospective tenants with allergies that the homeowners keep dogs.

We had such a fun week in this beautiful house. It was very clean and had everything we needed. My teen aged son loved staying in his own “apartment” (garage bedroom) and the house is close to everything in Bar Harbor that we love. I miss it already! Kudos to the owners and the cleaning crew for creating a retreat for families.

We stayed here for a week in August with our two children and one set of grandparents. The house was in the perfect location with very easy access to grocery stores and restaraunts. The view from the house was picturesque to say the least. Much time was spent on the porch taking it all on. We loved the water access and spent much time using the kayaks and swimming during high tide. The owners thought of everything and even left a bottle of wine for a welcome gift. We would definitely stay here again.

We LOVED our stay at Goodson Cottage! The house is beautiful, spacious and clean. Plenty of games, books, boats and other amenities to enjoy. Early September stay with eagle and loon sightings with enough cool weather to enjoy the fireplace. Very quiet and peaceful lakefront property yet easy to access Acadia, Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor. Sunrises on the pond are a treat!

The property is a wonderful getaway for family and friends. The great lawn directly on the cove is perfect for games, stargazing and wildlife watching. It’s tranquil and secluded. The magical trail through the woods to what my kids dubbed “treasure beach” is a real gem. There was every amenity we required, and it was very clean and cozy! The dressers in the main house smelled musty, so we didn’t put our clothes away, but otherwise we were all comfortable.

From The Knowles Company: Sorry you found the dressers unpleasant! We have made the owner aware and she will look into addressing that problem! Thanks!

This was the first vacation where we took our grown children with spouses and our grandson and we couldn’t have stayed in a more perfect house! We’re just back from a fabulous week at Moot Point. It’s a beautiful property: clean, fresh, well appointed with everything you might need, and well located in Trenton, just across the bridge from MDI. It’s quiet, perfect for star gazing and watching the changing tides. It also served as a great jumping off point for exploring the environs, from Deer Isle to West Quoddy Head.

We absolutely loved our time at Mill Cove. The owners had truly thought of everything you could need and that was greatly appreciated. The beds, bedding and linens were all so nice. We were able to bring our dog which was a great opportunity. The kids loved the ping pong table! We had quite a few tournaments! The kitchen and eating area was plenty big. The master bath was really nice and modern. We kayayed every day right from the beach. The firepit was beautiful each night as the sun went down on the water. We would recommend this home to anyone. It is a little further since it is located before the bridge but we had no issues with that when we went in August. Highly recommend!

This house is a charming, comfortable home in a great location. We had family in both Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor so we were able to visit them easily. The house was clean and spacious. Bedrooms were very comfortable. The covered front porch was a big plus, especially for morning coffee and rainy days. The only negative was the parking situation if you have more than two cars.

From The Knowles Company: Thanks for being such great tenants! We know that parking is a challenge in Bar Harbor in general. Hopefully use of the Acadia Gateway satellite parking area in Trenton was a solution.

Beautiful home exactly as described. For our family of 5+1 friend we will probably choose a location next year with more than one bathroom, but other than that, it was perfect. The back yard was a great place for drinks with nearby friends and everything was clean and reasonably modern. The one minor issue we had (bathroom would not lock) was immediately addressed.

We absolutely loved Midships!! The condo was clean, well stocked with needed supplies, and comfortable. The views are amazing! Easy walk into town for cute shops and restaurants. The hot tub was delightful after a long day of hiking. The neighbors next door were lovely! The only slight negative was that the upper two floors are warm, not air conditioned. Otherwise- everything was just great! We will be back!

Recharge your mind and soul, Rejuvenate your spirit, Rejoice in the knowledge that the choice you made in staying at Cole Cottage is probably the best decision you’ve made in quite some time. Grandsons playing on the beach and exploring the shoreline, reminding us that we can learn so much from our young and of the awesomeness of nature. Being absolutely awestruck by the setting sun from the deck and having a front row seat to fireworks across the cove. Rejoicing in the fact that, once again, we were able to gather as a family and celebrate life and all it has to offer. Thank you, Cole Cottage, for another year of rejuvenation, recharging and most of all rejoicing in the celebration of life and family.

We had such a great week here! The house was comfortable, very clean, and inviting. The kitchen was well stocked and made meal prep easy. The master bedroom was so spacious and the kids loved having the upstairs to themselves. We enjoyed the firepit at night and the grill too. We loved the location on the quiet side. A grocery store was super close and Southwest Harbor has lots of restaurant choices. It was so close to great hiking and Bar Harbor was only 25 minutes away. Knowles Co was super to work with and sent park and reservation information. They were very responsive to emails as well. We had a wonderful time staying at Glen Mary Manor. The kitchen was better stocked than a Williams Sonoma store. Every room was nicely decorated and had all you could possibly need. The toys supplied were great for our two year old granddaughter. The pool table gave the guys enjoyable evenings of competition. Great property; so well appointed, clean, and comfortable. New appliances, tons of supplies, clean and uncluttered. Feels like the owners have thought of everything and provided it! Easy location to go into Ellsworth for supplies or head into Mt Desert Island, which was amazing. Very quiet, lovely view and setting, and family friendly. Our kids had a great time climbing and playing on the rocky beach at low tide (not really possible for true swimming, but figure it would be great for launching kayaks, which they also provided!). We also so appreciated that we could bring our dog. It’s hard to find such a high quality rental that allows that. Overall, a lovely spot, and a great location for a family vacation.

We stayed a week in July 2021. We had originally planned to come in 2020, but the Knowles Company and the property owners helped us postpone our stay when it became clear that travel would be challenging. We’re so glad we were able to visit. Acadia National Park was the most crowded we’ve ever seen it in many years of visiting. Luckily, we had this wonderful escape on the “quiet side” of the island to return to each day. The cabin is thoughtfully furnished and welcoming. The kitchen has everything you could need. There’s also a wood stove and ample firewood available if you are comfortable using one, and an integrated tankless water heat/radiator system if you aren’t. The view of the harbor is lovely, and the cottage is arranged so that you don’t really notice the nearby road. There were also board games to entertain our young children and kayaks available for the adults. What really distinguishes Seascape from the many other places we have stayed in is the warmth and personality of the place—it really feels like you are staying in the family home that it is and not an anonymous corporate rental. We later learned that the original owner was very involved in historic preservation and it shows in the details—which include carefully restored heart pine floors and weathered doors—that pair well with the updated layout and modern conveniences.

Awesome! We loved everything about this house. The kitchen was very modern, high end and well stocked with every thing we ever needed for everyday cooking. Many thanks to Lynn for recommending the Seaglass Cottage to us. It was perfect for us! We loved the proximity to town, but quiet neighborhood. We could bike or hike into the park. The house itself was very nicely furnished with comfortable beds, a great shower, so many beautiful things – we felt like we were truly staying in a high end home, not a rental property. The separate guest quarters worked out perfectly for our teenage son – he loved having his own space. Like a duet at symphony hall, a bellowing bullfrog and an eerie loon sounding off greet the evening at the waters edge at Digby Lodge calling us to enjoyment and calm. The home is a welcoming mix of new electronics and up to date appliances with solid well kept antique furnishings. It even has an old fashion radio that works! Everything is top quality and top notch like the hosts themselves.
A hiking trail that circumvents the water also leads to carriage roads, mountain tops (850′) or the village of NorthEast Harbor. You never have to get in the car again. My family loved our visit so much one asked, “Can we spend the summer here”? “Yes, maybe next year.”

From the moment we arrived, my family of ten including our 4 grandsons went to exploring the caves and beach combing every day. The giant hammock got a workout every day and when asked “what was your favorite thing today?” we got answers like “miniature golf” or “ice cream” but our oldest grandson Ben said “the hammock.” I’m amazed that even at the age of 67, I can still learn from the innocence of youth. Stewart Cottage has everything we wanted out of a house in Bar Harbor for our family vacation. The location was the highlight as it was easy to walk to town or the shore path. The house itself is functional, but doesn’t offer much beyond that. We enjoyed the A/C during the unseasonably warm week and appreciated the shady yard in the afternoon. My siblings usually travel to southern beaches and the islands for vacation. While my partner and I have also visited those places, we have also been visiting Maine every year for 20 years, from Portland to Lubec, Mt Katahdin to Moosehead to Rangely – usually with a stop for a few days in the Mt Desert area. I finally convinced my siblings to try Maine for my 60th birthday. I am trilled to say that Camp Oulonquit was the perfect spot to give them a good taste of Maine; from the 12 foot tides and the accompanying rapids, exploring the sea creatures at low tide, to kayaking with the seals at high. Also, I’m glad they got to hear the cal of the loons, which is one thing I wish we had in PA. And the fresh mussels were a real treat. The location was good. We were able to get into Bar Harbor and the park without hassle. The houses offered plenty of room to move around, but i wouldn’t recommend more than 4 adult couples and 6 children. I’d give it a 9 out of 10.

Location is also great, within 15 minutes of the Acadia’s visitor center and close to many park attractions. Excellent Verizon reception in case you need cell service. Overall highly recommneded. Thanks for sharing your home with our family for a month! We loved the books in the library and handy access to trail maps and info on the area. During COVID, because Acadia was crowded, we enjoyed front door access to the less well known Schoolhouse Ledge trails with their views (Somes Sound!), caves, & waterfall. On cool evenings we gathered around the fireplace to catch up with each other. It was great to have the large deck for al fresco dining and when friends came over so we could social distance outside. Provided everything we needed for a great vacation.

So peaceful. So quiet. So beautiful. Lynn and her partners at the Knowles company were awesome! Would have liked better internet connection, but that’s a minor thing. Will try to come back every year if possible.

We loved out week here. It was quiet, easy to spend time in, and near all the activities we were looking for. It was clean when we arrived and everything worked well.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Otter Rocks. The location was incredible–we saw porpoises, bald eagles, loons and even a fox all from the deck of the home! The house was spacious and comfortable and had all we needed to cook meals and grill during our stay. The area was quiet and peaceful but still an easy drive to Bar Harbor. We loved watching the sun set over the water and making fires at night, as well as listening to the water from the master bedroom. The guest house looked lovely, though we did not use it. Overall, a wonderful experience and we would love to stay here again soon.

Charming house and well cared for! Super clean! Private enough, with very nice neighbors. We’d come back in ANY season! The owners have clearly invested much thought, time and money. Definitely a place you look forward to coming “home” to after a long day of exploring! 5 stars plus!

This was my second year at Quarry Cottage. I love how quaint the place is. I love the fire pit next to the house. I love the sun at the picnic table in the morning. I love the feelings of seclusion. This is such a cute home and its very comfortable and had everything we needed.

Fully equipped house, feet from the pond. Had a wonderful time sitting out on the doc after our hikes. There is something magical about Acadia and Long Pond. We will definitely be coming back soon.

The weather was almost perfect and I enjoyed sitting on the deck reading and looking out on the lake. Because it was late September the lake was quiet. I loved listening to the loons call to each other. The only negative was the slow WiFi. Home was so very comfortable with a variety of places to sit and look out at the lake. The kitchen was well equipped and very user friendly. The master bedroom suite with the large walk in closet was amazing!!

The house was wonderful, only difficulty was getting the fireplace pilot on but it was taken care of as soon as possible. The management company response time was very quick and we much appreciated the time taken to keep in touch and resolve the fireplace issue. We look forward to visiting again one day! Beautiful home and in a great location! Walking back into the home after a day out and about felt wonderful.

We travelled to the area for a biking, hiking holiday. The home is well situated walk to town for the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor but positioned on a quiet side street with parking for one car. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance and large supermarket 5 mins away. Nice to sit and relax on the front porch or back patio. There is a property in the rear being built very close next door which does encroach on your enjoyment, however, the noise was only intrusive in the morning as the contractors had gone by the time we returned from our day out. We found the home in good condition and very clean. All bedrooms had great space and plenty of storage for hanging clothes and the beds were comfy. The kitchen had all that you need with new appliances. New washer / dryer could be helpful for a longer stay. We were there in the cooler months but there were ample ceiling fans in the bedrooms for those warmer nights. We will definitely visit again.

Cottage was exactly what we were looking for – perfect size for us with good amenities and right on the water, with a quick walk over to the ovens being a special treat! Location is perfect, too – so close to Bar Harbor and Acadia while being just far away from to feel more relaxed.

Eastern bay retreat far exceeded our expectations! Conveniently located. The split layout of the house was perfect for 5 adults. The kitchen had all the pots, pans, plates and dishes we needed. And very spacious. The fireplace, deck and views were spectacular. The house was clean and UNCLUTTERED.

The charm of The Wedge and Shim is unsurpassed with its great location perched above the Gilpatrick’s Cove and all of the cozy spaces fit for endless lounging. Every little detail was just perfect and I probably don’t have enough words to express how much I loved staying there. I have been renting in NEH for 20 years and must say that this wonderful home has everything without being too much. From the special touches like the stacked firewood waiting upon our arrival, to the simple garden with flowers still in bloom…I appreciate all of the little details that make this iconic.

The house is so nicely appointed and decorated. We loved looking at the hand colored photographs and the other nice details of this Arts and Crafts style post and beam home. The fireplace nook was perfect for reading at the end of the day. And each bedroom having its own bathroom was a real plus when you are traveling with another couple.

Perfect! Everything about this house was perfect. The size, the perfect number of windows to keep it bright, the absolute cleanliness, the walking distance to town, close to trails in any direction, great shower, beautiful separate bedroom, great kitchen, fenced yard for dog. Cannot wait to come back some day.

Mia Thompson and Lili Pew worked very hard to sell our home in Northeast Harbor, ME. It was a difficult job considering the slow economy and the slow real estate market for that area. Nonetheless, they pulled it off, got a decent offer on the house, dealt with the buyer’s multiple concerns and the actual sale went through without a glitch. We recommend them.
