The description of the house/property is exact.
My clan (three generations) of 10 loved our time here. It is a “modernized” throw back to the days of grandeur. You are in the woods, over-looking the water in an unbelievably peaceful setting. Our grandkids (15, 13/13/10) loved the yard and rocks to the waters edge.
There was plenty of room for each of us to enjoy the peace and quiet and/or participate in games as a group.
We especially enjoyed the modern kitchen. It had everything you could possibly need or use.
A good time was had by all.

I’ve stayed in The Parsonage before, and this visit was also exceedingly comfortable! The home is a lovely retreat on a quiet street but still very close and walkable to everything in the village and the waterfront. The house was well stocked and everything was comfortable. The kitchen in particular had anything and everything you might need! We would highly recommend The Parsonage.

We had our family reunion at Juniper Ledge and the house was great. It’s a great location and the house is perfect for large groups or just two couples. The house was clean and well maintained. We will defiantly be back !!

This is a terrific house! My wife and I stayed her with our five adult children and had an excellent time. The house is right on the water, and we enjoyed using the kayaks. The rooms are spacious, and the open floor plan is great. Has all the amenities you will need and is very conveniently located to Acadia and downtown Bar Harbor. Would definitely rent it again!

My daughter and I wanted to enjoy a girls trip of hiking and relaxation. We certainly achieved both by staying here. From booking to checking out, everything went smoothly and efficiently. Communication was excellent, so much so, I feel I’ve made new friends. The house and location were perfect to explore everything Acadia has to offer. Crisp mornings started each day, sitting on the Adirondack chairs watching the tide go in out. We found some beautiful pieces of sea glass and listened to the harbor bell daily. If you are looking for peace and quiet, relaxation and tranquility then you’ll find it here!

We spent two glorious weeks of September here; the views from the dock are soul soothing; we swam, canoed the lake, ran the loop, hiked on nearby trails, bought local produce and goods at Beech Hill and Triple Chick farms, and through FarmDrop, did yoga on the decks. Heaven on MDI.

I’m very late leaving this review- we stayed in June 2023. My firends and I stayed here for vacation. This home was awesome- spacious, easy walkability within Bar Harbor, good bedroom:bathroom ratio. Having a parking pot was great, too, as parking in bar Harbor can be an issue. Great front porch and back patio area, beautiful inside and out. Highly recommend!

This house was perfect for our family of 5 adult couples and our 4 grandchildren. Everything you could need in an extremely well furnished kitchen. Great front porch for sitting and recapping the day’s activities. Everyone enjoyed our stay here. All the comforts you could ask for. Very close to the Shore Path and a short walk to anywhere in downtown Bar Harbor.

This was a lovingly and thoughtfully maintained home and was perfect for our stay in Bar Harbor, with lots of extra touches. We have been coming for many years and like to stay in the village, close to shops and restaurants. This house managed to be in a perfectly central location while also being in a quiet neighborhood. We walked everywhere and it was great not to have to deal with any downtown parking! Space for our cars was perfect and the annex was a very convenient extra space for us. We agree with some other reviews that the mattresses leave a lot to be desired, and after a two week stay we were glad that we had at least brought our own pillows.

From The Knowles Company: We’re so glad you enjoyed the house, but sorry you didn’t find the mattresses comfortable. Mattresses are such a subjective item, it’s hard to get it right for everyone! But we have alerted the owners and they will re-assess them this fall!

This cottage was perfect for a family looking to be close to Bar Harbor/Acadia, but still wanting quiet, waterfront privacy. Our kids loved exploring the pebble beach at lowtide, and seeing the wildlife (daily we saw seals and eagles). The cottage was well equipped with all essentials, clean, and had beautiful/natural landscaping. Even if you decide to go with another unit…stick with Knowles! Their staff was extraordinarily helpful and communicated well. Skip the VRBO or Airbnb and go with Knowles, you won’t regret it.

My wife, two young children and pooch were traveling around Mt Desert Island and Vince Cottage was the perfect cabin for us. The lake is so serene and quiet, it felt like our own private waterfront property. My kids absolutely loved fishing off the dock and taking out the paddleboat and canoe. We would definitely stay here again!

We loved our stay at Devilstone cottage. The location was ideal! Close enough to walk everywhere but quiet enough to feel like a private retreat! The house was huge and beautiful and stocked with everything you could imagine needing. The gardens are stunning. The rental agency was super helpful and easy to work with giving us all the info we needed to have a great vacation in Bar Harbor.

It was hard to leave the house because the 180 degree views were so amazing we didn’t want to leave! We saw bald eagles, owls, loons, seals, harbor porpoises, cranes and many other sea birds just outside our windows! The house is very roomy and comfortable and is well stocked with anything you could need. Very good washer, dryer, dishwasher. Lot is very quiet – no street noise! Location is central to all that Mt Desert Island offers.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Somes Harbor House. Great central location, very comfortable and charming house. Loved the back deck and our dog enjoyed it as well. There was an apple tree on the corner of the property and we saw a buck one morning enjoying the fallen apples. Short drive to all the great adventures on MDI. There was some street noise but was fairly warned in the listing and homeowners had solutions. A+ experience.

Artists Cove, simply put, is heaven on earth. We have been going to this house for 20 years and can’t imagine our summers without this piece of paradise. The view of the ocean, the gorgeous rocky cove, the scents of salt water and pine, the quiet, the birds, the flowers, the sunsets, the starry skies, the peace. The house itself is very cozy with everything we need, and not at all pretentious. It’s soulful and inviting. Our family has a deep and great love for Artists Cove!

We spent a wonderful week at Long Pond View in mid-August along with 3 other couples. Plenty of parking for 4 vehicles and the house was large enough that we didn’t feel at all crowded. The location was perfect – right across the road from the northern end of Long Pond with swimming and kayaking, and only a short drive to other points of interest in the National Park. Perhaps the only drawback was that only 3 of the bathrooms were full baths but overall, not that much of an inconvenience for our group. A previous review suggested that the downstairs smelled musty so we kept the dehumidifier running and AC on while we were there and did not notice any mustiness. Kitchen was well stocked, closet space was more than adequate, and there is a fenced in back yard, deck with grill, and overhang to store kayaks and bikes out of the rain. Overall great place.

Great house. It had everything we were looking for. The kitchen was well stocked. The three bedrooms and bed arrangements provides for a lot of flexibility. The beds slept very comfortably. The living and dining area are open to each other and provided for evening get togethers. The washer and dryer was very convenient and located in an office area equipped with a desk, monitor and printer. The deck with its fire pit and table and chairs were great for the cool evenings. Conveniently located from downtown Southwest harbor and a quick drive to Bar Harbor and all parts of Acadia. When we return to Acadia, we will definitely hope this house is available. It is an amazing value on the island.

The charm of The Wedge and Shim is unsurpassed with its great location perched above the Gilpatrick’s Cove and all of the cozy spaces fit for endless lounging. Every little detail was just perfect and I probably don’t have enough words to express how much I loved staying there. I have been renting in NEH for 20 years and must say that this wonderful home has everything without being too much. From the special touches like the stacked firewood waiting upon our arrival, to the simple garden with flowers still in bloom…I appreciate all of the little details that make this iconic!

The Parsonage house was a great fit for our family. It was comfortable and spacious enough for our family of seven adults, and the cozy dining and living areas brought us together for memorable meals, game nights and people watching from our front porch. Golden Cove Cottage was as promised. Everything about this house is clean, new and just works perfectly. The interior is immaculate. This is also a convenient location providing a short walk to SW Harbor and the Island Explorer bus stops, and a short drive to many west side trails. Even the drive to Bar Harbor and the Loop is only about 20 minutes. So, I highly recommended the Golden Cove Cottage. Thank you!! We loved it.

We enjoyed our stay in this well-equipped, clean and comfortable house. Our stay was fantastic. It was everything needed for our hiking needs for Acadia National Park. Only minutes from the Park, and the harbor. Both are walkable. The Lighthouse Inn is also walkable for dinner. The home was perfect for our dogs, and has a well equipped kitchen for cooking most nights in. We typically worked in the morning, hiked, had a beer or two and ate dinner at the house. We really enjoyed our stay here & would come back!

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Osprey Cove. The house and the views and the landscaping were beautiful and we appreciated such a well appointed kitchen. One small suggestion would be to remove old personal items from the bathrooms and closets.

We loved the very private Acadia Lodge! The views were gorgeous. The decks on 3 sides of the house meant beautiful views no matter where you were sitting. In the morning the sun came up over the mountain across the sound. You could hear and see the birds calling and the lobster boats chugging past. We felt very comfortable at this house – like a home away from home. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out and be comfortable while all being together. The dock added a place to hang out and go on the kayaks, go fishing, or jump in the water to cool off. Bonus was to meet the owner, super nice man who gave us some history of the area.

The house looks pretty ordinary from the front but inside it is very nice. The pictures are accurate. My family loved the electric reclining sofas when relaxing in the evening. Nice kitchen for cooking in great location for SW Harbor but a bit of a drive to get to main destinations on MDI. About 20 minutes to Bar Harbor and 30 minutes to Sand Beach. As noted in the details bring a lighter if you want to use the fire pit. Originally found this on Vrbo, but did some research and found through Knowles which saved some $ booking direct through Knowles. Worked with Nikki at Knowles who was super nice and helpful.

My family and I drove up the street and driveway to Carrolls Hill House and were grinning ear to ear! It was more akin to pulling into a campground than your typical home. The house is essentially set in a beautiful “campsite” surrounded by tall pines, moss covered granite and the sounds of nature to still your soul. The house itself was clean and well kept. We loved the exposed wood ceiling which gave it a cabin-like feel. We also enjoyed the windows and sliding doors to catch the island breeze. Many hotdogs and smores were cooked over the fire pit. We had a clear night to see the Milky Way and a few meteors zipping by. Knowles was great to work with. They were super friendly and made the process really easy. Would definitely stay here again!

We recently got back from a week at Tide Race. We had 3 generations of our family come together from Virginia to enjoy the beauty of the Maine coast. Tide Race was a beautiful treat for our entire family. My young daughters especially loved the kayaks and we went out on the water every day of our visit (even the one rainy day). It’s proximity to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park were perfect. The views were a wonderful way to wake up every day. We highly recommend this wonderful home.

This is a lovely property, a beautiful site and architecturally interesting home. It was great for a family, lots of room to run around and usable kitchen and dining area. The only drawback is that the 4th bedroom is really more of a bunk room/basement feel for use by kids. We thoroughly enjoyed the property and the location is convenient to either side of the island.

From The Knowles Company: Thank you for your feedback! Based on your comment regarding the lower level, which we agree is more of a rec room rather than a bedroom, we have modified this listing to reflect just three bedrooms, not four. We look forward to your return to the MDI area!

We stayed for a week with our son, daughter and 2 grandchildren. The views from anywhere in the house or on anywhere on the property were absolutely amazing! We used the kayaks (provided) on a daily basis and made friends with a courious harbor seal. An eagle had a nest on the property which we enjoyed watching as well. The grandkids enjoyed searching for crabs and other sealife at low tide. The property was well appointed and had all we needed. The Knowles Company was attentive to any needs we had during our stay.

We loved our stay at Goodson Cottage; much so that it was difficult to leave! There is pride in ownership!

The access to Seal Cove Pond was amazing! And the view of Bernard Mountain from the dock was beautiful! We really enjoyed use of the canoe and kayaks! There were plenty of life jackets available. We also fished off the dock and caught quite a few sun fish and perch one morning. We loved hearing and seeing the loons out on Seal Cove Pond.

The beds and sofas were comfortable. We enjoyed being on the quiet (western) side of the island. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and bathroom.

The cottage was clean and well-kempt.

There are hair dryers in the bathrooms. We weren’t sure if there’d be any, so we did pack one.

We loved utilizing the games and puzzles on hand, especially checkers!

It’s about a 20-25 min drive to Acadia/Bar Harbor from the cottage; we didn’t mind the scenic drive to the park.

We’d love to stay here again in the future and would recommend Goodson Cottage to family and friends!

We loved our week at 14 Wicker Way! It is private, quiet, and lovely. We loved being awakened each morning to the amazing songs of the White-Throated Sparrow and the Winter Wren! The cottage itself is nice and spacious and open, and the decor is great. And it’s hard to beat the Quiet Side of MDI. We enjoyed the proximity to Southwest Harbor and its shops and restaurants–we had good meals at Eat-a-Pita (breakfast), Cafe Drydock, and a fantastic dinner at Red Sky. We loved being 5 minutes from Bass Harbor too and our fav restaurant of Seafood Ketch where we dined x3 on the deck. Also nice and close to Seawall that we visited x2, Ship Harbor Nature Trail, and Wonderland. Close also to St Saveur that we hiked Monday morning of our week. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Our multi-generation family of 14 loved it. The home was well provisioned and there was room for all. The location cannot be beat. All but the youngest children could walk to town on their own. We all took several walks over to Bar Island. The front porch was made for morning coffee. Highly recommended.

Our family of five adults and two babies returned to Tigsacolle for the second consecutive year. The rooms are spacious, and the yard is huge. We enjoyed a few dinners and breakfasts at the huge dining room table that could fit 18 or 20 people. All the appliances worked fine. The yard was great for barbecuing and watching the kids run around. We love Southwest Harbor and appreciate that the cottage is a short walk away. There are several great restaurants and shops there, and it’s a short drive to Bar Harbor. Maybe it will become our “go-to cottage” in beautiful Maine.

We were a large family, aged 4 to 74, and every one found The Ledges to be beyond amazing. Each person found their favorite niche and were able to read, relax, play pool, work on a puzzle, or just watch the birds and boats go by from one of many decks or the dock. There were more than enough things to do in the well-appointed house but many would go off to walk to the nearby village and local beach or go for a mountain hike during the day and each found it very relaxing to return to this conveniently located house. As a family, we would congregate for meals in the lovely open kitchen and dining area. Everyone had a seat and there was plenty of room for a multitude of cooks. At the end of our stay, when we gathered for a family photo on the top deck, the eagle flew right over our heads! This visit to Maine was magnificent and memorable due to in no small part to the wonderful Ledges property. The Knowles Company took very good care of us and lived up to their motto of “distinctive properties and legendary service.” So thankful for their assistance in creating such an amazing family vacation. My only recommendation is that there be directions provided for the somewhat complicated master showers. We were never quite sure which lever did what, but that was a minor point in an otherwise extraordinary house.

We stayed at Tide Race for a family gathering in June 2023. It was a phenomenal experience. The home was spacious, well-maintained and supplied with plenty of cooking utensils. The view from the living room and two lower bedrooms was spectacular and included sightings of bald eagles, ospreys, geese and kingfishers. We highly recommend it.

We enjoyed a near perfect vacation with three generations of family at Frankie’s Place, a secluded cabin in the woods above the rugged shores of Somes Sound in the very middle of MDI …convenient to everything. The cabin is light and bright with cathedral ceilings, walls of glass, original art work, and memorabilia from around the world. The comfy furniture invites family conversation, reading in nooks, and meditative views of nature while the Buddha overseeing the cabin instills an aura of peace over all. The large living/dining area is warmed by a massive stone fireplace and plenty of dry firewood stored under the house. The 1970’s galley kitchen contains every specialized tool one might imagine. With the good internet connection we were able to work from home for five days in this very special hide-away! We were all pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the firm foam beds. The winding dirt road to the cabin provided a nice woodsy walk, while a quick drive takes you to many trailheads including the recently opened trails at the Garden Preserve. A wonderfully restorative vacation was had by all!

This was our first trip to Maine. We loved the house, its location, and the endless opportunities for recreation in the area. The pictures of the house don’t do it justice. It’s charming, spacious, and well appointed. The location can’t be beat. A less than ten minute walk into Bar Harbor and a 15 minute bike ride to Acadia National Park and the carriage roads for biking or walking. The rental agent who helped us was extremely helpful in helping us find the house which met our needs and recommending things to do in the area, including a variety of activities and restaurants. We would definitely stay at Moore Guest Cottage again. June, 2023

We have been to Maine many times and we would have to say that the bright and sunny Seabird Carriage House has become our new favorite of all the places we’ve stayed on MDI. It was immaculate on our arrival, the high level of craftsmanship was evident throughout the house, and the stunning kitchen had everything we needed and more. We appreciated the many thoughtful touches including the extensive and detailed guest information document and the labeling of light switches. The house sits very close to Main Street in Southwest Harbor but the benefit is that it means only a relatively short walk to the shops and restaurants of town center (not to mention a 5 minute walk to Milagro’s, an excellent coffee shop!) This cottage will be our first choice when we return to MDI!

We absolutely loved Sand Point Cottage for our vacation to Bar Harbor and Acadia! The home is very accessible to both locations, and is located directly on a beautiful cove. When the tide goes out you can walk to some amazing caves nearby. The home itself was even more lovely than the pictures. There are many beautiful seating areas with ocean views both inside and outside. I would absolutely recommend this home!

My wife and I, along with our two children (ages 8 and 10), stayed for a week in mid-June at Three Moons. The cabin is simple, but had everything we could possibly have needed need. The dock is a great place to relax, hear loons and star gaze. The cabin was clean, and well maintained. The fire place was great on cool evenings. The only issue was that we were unable to connect the phone or internet. But, once the initial discomfort passed, this proved to be quite enjoyable! The map and list of favorite activities in the cabin were great! We enjoyed kayaking on Long Pond, hiking on both the east and west side of the island, lobster dinners in town and biking on the carriage roads. Each day was filled with adventure and beauty. We’re already planning our return to MDI. Thanks for opening your cabin to us!

Amazing location that is directly on the water (great views) and on the walking path to downtown. Inside the home it is well stocked with everything that your family would need to enjoy a vacation. We came with our 4 older children and we walked to dinners, to get coffee and ice cream, played horseshoes out back and just relaxed on the porches. Short drive to Acadia where we did some amazing hikes. We can’t wait to return!

We had a wonderful week here in early June. The views are spectacular, the mattresses are comfortable, and the kitchen is large and well-stocked. The Knowles Company was very efficient and we had no problems during our stay.

The Ledges was perfect for our family of 15, ages 11 to 80! Lots of room, plenty nooks for reading and relaxing. Well stocked kitchen, great appliances, water pressure, hot water! View to die for, although I recommend cutting down 1 tree that partially blocks the view on the lower deck. When we needed life preservers, the caretaker was there with them immediately! It might be a bit warm without air conditioning in July and August but our weather was perfect in May and June.

From The Knowles Company: We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay! Sorry the tree was obstructing your view. Because of its proximity to the shoreline, the owners aren’t legally able to remove it. And besides, the local ospreys and eagles love to use it as a lookout perch for fish in the harbor!

We had a wonderful stay at Vince Cottage. The cottage is a quiet location with a beautiful view of the pond from the master bedroom, living room, screened in porch and deck. We were there for Memorial Day Weekend, it was cool at the beginning of the week, but the cottage warmed up quickly and has a wood stove in addition to baseboard electric heat. The cottage had everything we needed. We weren’t sure if it was going to have a single cup brew option for our morning coffee but they had both, the option for a pot or single cup, so bring your coffee pods or ground coffee. They also have an espresso machine. We would definitely stay here again, it was clean and neat and very relaxing.

It was nice to get back to the quiet side of the island again for our 2 week stay in September/October. On the days that were warm and beautiful, we enjoyed the back porch of Camp Deux and the beautiful view. We saw a bald eagle from the house and the pier, and saw and heard several loons throughout our stay. This home is lovely. It was clean and welcoming when we got there, and it had all the things that we needed, including the feel of a camp, but with one important addition. Heat! This year we needed to use the heat several days and wow was that nice! Not only was the house warm when it was 38 degrees outside, but the warm floors were wonderful! We all took off our shoes so that we could enjoy the warmth of the floors. Thank you also for allowing us to bring our dogs with us again. We could not have a vacation without them. We had a very nice time and look forward to a return visit.

Everything about this home was exactly what we had hoped it would be. It was neat, clean and nicely decorated. The living room is spacious and the bedrooms very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked including lobster pots that got lots of use! The owner even left blueberry jam and soda for us to enjoy. We also enjoyed the gas fire pit on the back deck! Great location with easy access to all of Acadia National Park. We have already suggested it to several friends! Many thanks!

We loved this property! The view was gorgeous, the kitchen was well-stocked–probably the finest kitchen I’ve ever experienced. Others had left spices and coffee behind and we obliged by leaving a few things as well to help other visitors get off on the right foot. We used the fire pit a couple of nights. The primary suite up in the loft has a comfortable king size bed and a great bathroom. The main floor has a Queen bed in the room along with a nice bath in the main hall, which was nice for the other couple we were traveling with to have that as their space and our space was upstairs. Acadia is about 25 minutes away and we spent quite bit of time there, stopping to buy live lobsters on the way back so we could cook them up for dinner. A great lobster pot and all the lobster utensils were wonderful to use! We even met the family down the road with their road side stand of live lobsters and found out quickly that people are very nice in this area. An extra blanket or 2 would have been nice to take outdoors in the cool mornings since we were here in October, just before a lot of places shut down for the season. The privacy this home provided was wonderful. Highly recommend!

From the Owners: “Thanks for the suggestions about the outdoor throw blankets! We’ll be sure to set them out for future guests!”

My husband and I stayed here while exploring the island. The house was clean, comfortable, and inviting. We loved the front porch, the open kitchen, and the book collection. The primary bedroom had nice light and the bed was very comfortable. The location is great! Easy walk into town and a short drive to many popular locations. Personally, we preferred being in Northeast Harbor as it it more low key and less busy. There’s a great coffee shop in town, The Salt Market, and the Nor’Easter has great lobster rolls. The only “downside” is that the bathroom is small – adequate for one adult or two small children – requiring a small shower. That said, it is manageable. My husband is 6’1” and his shoulders were above the top of the shower curtain, but the water pressure and temp were great. It encourages short showers (no pun intended!). We’d definitely come back again!

Very quiet location with off street parking. Super fast internet. Great first floor walk in shower. Well equipped kitchen. Better bring your own streaming device as TV is extremely limited. No ESPN, etc. As Senior Citizens, there is no handrail to enter the front porch from a very narrow stair. A real challenge. The banister upstairs is only partial. What you see in the picture is only what’s available. A handrail on the opposite wall would be nice. The addition of these accessibility issues would make this a good rental for any age folks. Our rating reflects our concerns.

Note from the Owners: “We share your concerns about the exterior railing, and have petitioned the town to make an exception to their setback rules in order for us to legally install one. As for the interior railing, we will take that into consideration as well! Thanks for pointing it out to us.”

Lovely home, quiet street with easy access to town and Acadia. Walkable to the grocery store or restaurants. We also felt the beds were somewhat uncomfortable. The living room was comfortable enough and we brought a streaming device to stream Netflix on the television. The annex is adorable and allowed the girls some space. The kitchen was well stocked with appropriate cooking utensils for meals at home. Finally, this cottage was incredibly clean and felt very welcoming! I would highly recommend this property!!

Bagatelle was an incredible place to host a family vacation with 3 generations present. The house is large, beautifully decorated, and very well stocked. Our toddler loved running around the house and there were even toys for her to play with. With her early bedtime, we enjoyed evenings on the front porch under blankets or at the fire pit in the yard. It was an easy drive into town, but with limited parking, we opted to walk most of the time (15-20 mins depending on how far you go). Acadia is just a short drive away, so this is the perfect home base. You are secluded enough with a yard and beautiful views, that you never feel guilty about spending too much time at the house. Thank you to our host for making us feel so welcome! This was truly a memorable vacation.

Beautiful, comfortable, clean, great amenities, and great location. We were fortunate enough to be able to spend 3 weeks here and treasured every minute. Close to MDI, Schoodic Point, and Blue Hill. It was great to come home and spend the evenings at the fire pit watching the sunset, Used the outside lobster pot, the grill, and the kayaks. The quiet side of Acadia has become a favorite for us and Seal Cove Pond is our preferred location. It’s incredibly quiet, except for the call of the loons, which is one of the draws. Goodson Cottage is light, roomy and comfortable–highly recommend it!

We recently completed a week’s stay at Goodson Cottage for the second year in a row. We came back for all the great features we experienced before: the location on quiet Seal Cove Pond, on the quiet side of the Island, and three floors – a floor for each member of our party to have privacy and comfort. We knew going in that the internet was tricky (past experience!), but it’s vacation, so we were ok with that. The furnishings are comfy and well-cared for; nice enough to be great as a place to relax and be ourselves, not so fancy that we were worried about using anything! One member of our party brought a racing kayak this year, and was happy to have the pond handy for a midnight moonlight kayak paddle…and it was cool enough this week that we got a chance to have a fire in the wood stove. Such a cozy place to stay, and convenient to everything we wanted to do during our week at MDI. Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved On the Sound. It was a beautiful, quiet and peaceful site and the house was well appointed and had all the necessary cooking tools. We saw great birds as there was a late fall migration of warblers and I also saw 2 snowshoe hares (not yet in their winter white color) and of course eagles and loons! We had a fabulous dinner at Abels. The outdoor shower was a hoot and fit our needs perfectly. There is lots of space for 2 people and we didn’t need to go upstairs for anything as the first floor was perfect. The pottery, artwork and ceramics were wonderful.

I have been renting vacation homes on the island for close to thirty years. This property is beyond amazing. The setting is quintessential Maine. There are walking paths through the forested grounds, a gravel beach and a float at the end of dock. The home itself is full of natural light, beautifully decorated and maintained. The place was very nice. It is very challenging to find the first day especially at night time. It seems as though you are driving on a hiking trail. You actually will cross one of the hiking trails in Acadia when approaching the driveway. We had a very lovely time. Everything was as expected.

From The Knowles Company: So glad you enjoyed your stay! Sorry you had a difficult time finding the house! It’s true that its driveway entrance isn’t marked well, but that is due to the fact that Acadia National Park, which the drive crosses as you noted, understandably prohibits any conspicuous signage.

This cottage is wonderful in many ways, especially it’s quiet location. If you looking for a utilitarian experience, Wicker Way serves that need. The washer and dryer worked well, and the cottage was spotless when we arrived. I’ve rented cottages that have a small supply of cutlery and a few dishes, cracked and perhaps not so clean. The stunning sunsets and stargazing from the deck. Watching the loons fish in the bay. Playing cards on the porch. Skipping stones and tidepooling at the beach. It was the perfect home base for hiking, kayaking, and exploring both sides of the island. Can’t tell you how much the peacefulness of Bayview Cottage was a blessing for us. Thank you.

The house and location were perfect! We felt fortunate to be able to stay here. The view from the deck out across the water was just fantastic. What a beautiful, well-appointed home. We enjoyed watching our local professional baseball team at night on the first floor space. The kitchen was well equipped and the dining/living room space was perfect with the view of the bay. The lower patio and upper deck were great places to relax and hear the water lap the shore line. The master suite on the third floor was amazing with its large walk-in closet, spacious bathroom and loft area. And the other bedrooms on the second floor were great spaces as well. And there were so many different places on the property to enjoy the outdoors. We found ourselves saying that we were so happy that we contacted Knowles and had the opportunity to work with you. Thanks for guiding us to the perfect home and location. I will be in touch about renting it again.

We have come to Maine for years and this house and location were fantastic. Magical woods, serene water view, a wonderful deck, and a house that felt like home as soon as we arrived.

Our family spent 10 days at Somes Sailaway in August 2022. The house was beautiful; well equipped with plenty of space and gorgeous views of the Sound from inside and from the decks. The lobster pot, grill and fire pit were often used. We loved the water access, with a dock and boat mooring. We sunned, swam and rented a motorboat to explore the Sound and Harbors and watch the seals. Hiking at Acadia Mountain and other trails were nearby. It’s a great location for exploring Acadia, but away from the crowds and on the quiet side of MDI. The Knowles Agent communicated with us frequently and was available for any questions. Our relatives visiting from Europe are already asking when they can return. I can still see the views…

My wife and I spent a very enjoyable week at Three Moons. The dock and lakefront deck are what make it such a great camp. The dock is spacious and sturdy and we had two boats tied up to it — a sailboat and a canoe. The camp is at a nice windy spot on Long Pond. On a cool evening a fire in the brick fireplace is very cozy. There’s even easy hand-launching of boats from a sort of boat ramp. Potential tenants should note that the neighbors are very close and the interior is very simple. The bath is tiny with a small sink. The electric kitchen stove is older, and there are only basic kitchen utensils. For example, we found no mixing bowls for batters or salads. But, all in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our week in Three Moons!

From The Knowles Company: Thank you for the recommendations on improving the kitchen inventory! We have asked the homeowners to add a few more items to their kitchen tools for 2023. Your suggestions are very helpful!

My family and my brother’s family rented this place together at the beginning of August and had the best time! This was our first time in Maine and it did not disappoint. The house is beautiful, clean, and well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a blender for our morning smoothies, a full size coffee maker, and a corkscrew for our evening beverages. The owners provided some nice touches. I appreciated the laundry baskets in each closet. The windows across the back of the house made for a stunning view of the water, and the deck was the perfect place to drink our morning coffee. The kids loved scrambling over the rocks at low tide and searching for shells and crabs. We watched lobster boats pull in their traps in the mornings and even spotted seals a couple times during the week. The water was cold, and a few people in our party did a “polar plunge” most mornings. The drive to the island was not bad, and we ventured there most days for food, hikes, and a couple excursions. We found the Traveling Lobster to have the best lobster, and Udder Heaven’s ice cream was perhaps the best I’ve ever had, and they have so many flavors. Evenings around the fire pit were the perfect way to cap off our evenings. We spent a full week there, and my daughter literally cried when we had to leave. What a fantastic place to get away!

We fell in love with Acadia and Seal Harbor. I can’t imagine staying in a modern house as the historic charm of this house really won us over to detach and relax. From the beautiful deck to sit and look at the harbor to more than ample space inside, we didn’t want to leave! Would highly recommend. The Knowles Company was also very responsive to all of our inquiries.

My family loved this cabin at first sight. We enjoyed eating dinner on the deck, board games in the family room, hummingbirds, old books, and a stunning view. It was its own “room of requirement” and had no more our less than we needed in every way. A special place.

Our family of four (two adults and two teens) enjoyed a wonderful week at the Goodson Cottage. We were a bit concerned that the cottage would be worn from the pictures, but it was in impeccable shape. The furnishings are older, but the cottage has been very well maintained. And, perhaps more importantly, the cottage was spotless. You could eat off of the floor. We loved all of the games and puzzles. The owner also has organized and labeled everything so we had maps and guidebooks on hand. The WiFi never worked for us, but the realtor told me it was spotty so it wasn’t an issue. Our hotspots worked well and we had cell coverage. Another plus, the water is warm. We loved the swimming deck as well as the kayaks and canoe. As other renters have stated, the house is about 20 minutes from everything, which is pretty much the case with many houses in Maine. There is a lobster place around the corner that also sells fresh fish. Otherwise, it is remote. We purchased groceries right before we got to MDI, fresh fish at the place around the corner, and we were set. Ample cooking supplies, grill, and basic spices. Definitely will go back again.

We couldn’t have picked a better place to spend a week in Bar Harbor with our three grown daughters (and one boyfriend) than Hancock House. We shared good food and conversation around the outdoor patio table and walked the nearby shore path each night after dinner. The house was a cozy base for us to reenergize after our days spent hiking, biking, kayaking in nearby Acadia National Park and while enjoying the many charms of Bar Harbor. We have been to Bar Harbor for several summer vacations over the years. This was one of the best. Thanks to the owner for their hospitality and all the little touches that made our stay comfortable. Thanks also to Knowles for their attentive service and consideration.

Excellent house and KITCHEN. With 16 it was easy to prepare meals on the 10 burner stove for everyone. Plenty of seating. We rented a boat for the week and docked at the house. Perfect. Burned wood every night in the fire pit and told tall tales with a sprinkle of hyperbole. House was a little warm at times but we did have a hot streak when we first arrived. Great house for a large group.

Our first time to Acadia so I was a bit nervous about the location. It was perfect-easy to get to Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor and everywhere else. The location was lovely-private, gorgeous views, very serene. The house was perfect-good sized bedrooms, super fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds & furniture. Screened porch so pleasant, an entire unfinished basement with ping pong table and extra fridge. It was extremely hot in Maine the week we visited. Luckily, most rooms have ceiling fans, including all bedrooms. Plus a few extra. Also nights cooled down to the mid to high 60s so comfortable sleeping. We enjoyed taking dips in the cove at high tide, watching herons and even seagulls. The water view is very visible from the house, true eye candy. We were able to have an active trip to Acadia National Park, hiking a number of trails, visiting Sandy Beach and freshwater Echo Lake were refreshing. Ate lobster just about every day (Rodick’s in Southwest Harbor was our favorite). Thank you to the owners and The Knowles Company team for providing an excellent vacation spot!

Our family of 5 stayed at 5 Pine Street in late July. The house is amazing. Everything was very clean and we could tell that the place was recently renovated. We ate out on the deck under the stars. Mornings in the kitchen were cool with the breeze coming in through the screen doors. We read at night in the screened in porch listening to the wind through the trees. The walk to town and to bike rentals is only about 10 minutes and it gave our teenagers some freedom to explore Bar Harbor. I couldn’t recommend this place more and we would love to come back!

I stayed here with my two boys for a week while they were at a climbing camp (and I had to work during the day). It worked really well for us, the wifi and cell service were great for working and there was plenty of space. We enjoyed the shorefront for swimming at high tide and it was quite private. It happened to be a very hot week and there are several skylights so it was a bit warm in the cottage but lots of fans helped to cool it down at night. Great location being close to Hulls Cove Acadia entrance and not far from NE Harbor or Bar Harbor.

The cottage was great, perfect for our family. Decorated so cute. It surpassed my expectations. Very well stocked. From every kind of dish, appliance or pot/pan to beach towels and beach chairs. Mimi’s had everything we needed. All we packed were our clothes and bikes. There were games for kids and adults. The third bedroom has bunk beds for the kids. There were three young adults (18,19,20) that loved the 3rd bedroom. It was like there own private suite!! It’s walking distance to Main Street where shops and restaurants are and a mile up the road is an IGA grocery store. I can’t say enough!!! This was our second year of staying at Brightholme with our three generation family. Location is so perfect. With the living room and generous “family” room there was plenty of space to spread around and enjoy each other’s company. We also enjoyed having morning coffee/tea on the front porch and waving “hi” or “good morning” to other morning walkers with its access to the Shore Path. With the multiple bedrooms and new addition of a full bath downstairs, space for everyone is never an issue. Highly recommend for large families.

The property was in good shape, great kitchen with all the amenities for the meal get together, excellent playroom and toys for the little ones, comfortable beds and decent bathrooms. We loved the quiet property with tennis, walks on the beach and pier, and even a quick jump in the pool (50F !) . 30-45 minute drive to NP and Bar Harbor, great local restaurants, also did lobster boat tour at Southwest Harbor. This is a magical home made more magical by gorgeous gardens (including a dog-safe side yard); cozy and pretty decor; partial views of the harbor; a lovely neighborhood; and proximity to all the elegance and scenic beauty available at the Claremont (croquet, Harry’s Bar, and unparalleled views of St. Sauveur and Flying Mountains over the water from Batson Fish Camp and Little Fern). The owner’s sweet, thoughtful attention to details made Napier Cottage all the more comfortable and welcoming: homemade cookies and muffins, bread from Little Notch and breakfast fare waiting for us on arrival; the wonderful Guest Gardens (lettuce, basil, herbs, nasturtiums and tomatoes in season) in pots outside the dining room door; an incredibly organized kitchen; meticulous anticipation of guest questions and needs in the instructions and materials provided (maps, ferry schedules etc.) that were of great help to us in getting around the island despite our having come to MDI all our lives; and very specially, the extraordinary kindness and helpfulness of the owner herself. The only thing I would find difficult here would be entertaining on a large scale, given that the kitchen sink is fairly small. For up to six people, we managed well; for more ambitious gatherings we used the Claremont as Base Camp II for feedings, and could not have been happier with the arrangement. We are incredibly grateful to have found this home and come to know its lovely and accomplished owner. It’s been many an age since we had such a relaxing vacation and we hope to join the roster of repeat renters who come back to this house again and again.

We loved the location on the quieter side of the island and close to the back entrance to Acadia. Very nice rocky beach to sit out and watch boats go by or just hear the waves rolling over the rocks. The house worked well for us with 5 in our party. We used the loft area plus both bedrooms. We visited end of June and were able to get wonderful breezes and cool the house just by opening the windows and screen doors. We did have an issue with the smoke detectors repeatedly going off for no apparent reason multiple times during our visit but we made the rental company and owners aware and hopefully this is not an issue again in the future. When one of the beach benches broke during our stay, the owners had it replaced the next day. Very responsive.

From the Owners: Thanks for the heads up on the smoke detectors. Our electrician confirmed that they were functioning fine, but that the fog and humidity triggered them. Closing the windows and doors will help mitigate that from happening in the future!

We loved Seaglass Cottage. It was on a cute street within walking distance to everything we needed including the grocery store. The house was exactly as described in the photos and one of the most well equipped homes of any of the vacation homes we have stayed. I’m giving it 4 stars because at the very least the beds need mattress toppers, the living room furniture was not comfortable, and we would have loved a smart TV for the teens who wanted Netflix access on our one rainy/cold day. Otherwise, everything was great!

From The Knowles Company: Thanks for your suggestions regarding mattress toppers and a smart TV. Sorry the living room furniture wasn’t to your preference. We have passed along your recommendations to the homeowners!

Our extended family of 6 adults and 2 children spent a week late June, early July here and we are still basking in the glow of this magical place! The house was perfectly appointed and set up for three couples and two children, with expansive views from many windows. The huge lawn, surrounded by lovely gardens, was perfect for kite flying and games. The waterfront was full of tidepools with just enough sand for digging and spots to swim and launch kayaks. (We had two delivered from Acadia Paddles). We spent countless hours on the large deck, lounging and eating. We loved being on the “quiet side” of MDI, with plenty to do nearby and this sanctuary of a spot to return too.

Stayed here for a week with me, my husband, our two kids and my parents. It was the perfect setting and a short drive to anything we needed to access on MDI. Pros: there is a half bath in the first floor as well as two full baths. This wasn’t mentioned in the description and it was really nice to have. Close to everything so it was easy to come back for lunch between activities. Comfortable home. Overall we had a great stay. Cons: Parking was difficult. There is a driveway but it’s on a busy turn so it’s hard to back out safely. Grill was not clean so we did not attempt to use. Also there was a watermelon on the counter when we got there that we didn’t touch. Kind of odd.

From The Knowles Company: A watermelon?? That’s a first! We suspect the former tenants left it behind and the cleaners didn’t know what to do with it. Sorry that wasn’t taken a way! Also sorry the grill wasn’t properly cleaned. We will remind the cleaners to address that next time. Yes, that driveway is a little dodgy. The owner finds that backing into it makes things a little easier for getting in and out.

Our family had an amazing stay at Pebble. It is the perfect location on the island. We could walk ten feet out the door and be in/on Long Pond and you could hardly tell there were neighbors both because of the trees and because it was so quiet. We loved watching all the kayakers and paddle borders, but it wasn’t ever busy or loud. It was a 5 minute drive to our favorite hike (Beech Mountain) and only about 20 minutes to the Park Loop Road in Acadia. The cabin had everything we needed. We were able to cook our own meals and were thankful for the grill. In the cabin the pictures, the red futon has been replaced with a small couch which we really appreciated. We are so thankful we stayed at Pebble. If you’re looking to really get away, this is the place for you!

We loved waking up here, enjoying a day out hiking and returning to the comforts of home to relax and enjoy a fire in the outside pit while overlooking the water. We enjoyed meals and games in the beautiful sunroom. Perfect vacation!

Edge of town, on a small cove, very comfortable cabin design. Windows open to day breezes,. Cozy fireplace at night was our favorite. No dock, but small deck at waters edge. Some road noise, but overall we loved our week at Pat’s Place and Pat’s artwork.

We stayed at Sunscape the last week of May; the house is beautiful and well maintained, tastefully decorated and the cleanest rental we have ever seen. The neighborhood is quiet, and the proximity to the carriage roads is a big plus. It is on our short list for future rentals.

Beth represented us when buying land and had so many insights about all of the available properties on the island. She knew what to look for when dealing with land and answered all of our questions effectively. She was always super responsive and helped us jump on a really good opportunity very quickly which is incredibly valuable in today’s market.

We stayed in Goodson Cottage during the second week of October 2021, and had a lovely time. The home was clean and comfortable, and had plenty of room for us to spread out and relax; each of the three of us had their own floor for sleeping, with our own bathrooms. The setting is amazing – so private and quiet, with a short walk to beautiful Seal Cove Pond; we watched sunset there, and even got up very early one morning to watch the sun rise over Bernard Mountain; it was magical! The location is perfect, as we enjoy being away from the crowds on the busy side of the Island…but it’s close enough to drive to any hike we wanted to do within 30 minutes. It was great coming back to our “home” at the end of a day out on the trails, to a quiet and cozy place to gather for food and games. Two things to be aware of: the pictures are accurate – there are no curtains or other window coverings on the many windows! Not necessarily a “visibility” issue, because the home is so private, but if you don’t like sunlight in the early morning, bring eye shades! Also, even though the time there was a getaway from ordinary life, there were times when the spotty internet service was a real downer – especially when we were trying to book reservations for driving up Cadillac Mountain! So…be prepared for occasional frustration with the internet service (the first time I’ve encountered this difficulty in the many years and places I’ve stayed on MDI).

We enjoyed our week at Imladris. This is a beautiful home. It is handsome in architecture and nicely furnished. There is plenty of common space. The beds were comfortable, so nice to have a supportive mattress without the fluffy toppers everyone seems to be fond of using these days. The kitchen was very well stocked with utensils and food staples.

The house sits in a private neighborhood. The property is very well maintained and quiet. There is a short walk on a right of way to Norwood Cove which was wonderful to see.
There were one or two small issues that arose, but they were minor and were taken care of immediately by the caretaker and staff. Communication was very good.

We would enjoy staying here again on a return trip to Acadia.

My wife and I stayed here the first week of Oct 2021. Never in my life did I think I would love a place outside of the south but this is it. I could truly live at Island Sky. Not all is perfect but quite close. The only bad parts are the bedroom is upstairs and is an A frame room. You have to bend over to get into the bed if you are over 5’7. The bathroom is also a bit tight so “big people” such as my wife and I have some difficulties. All that said, thank you to the owners of Island Sky and I would go back in a heartbeat regardless of my difficulties I mentioned. I love this place!!!

Somes Sailaway was AMAZING! It was so hard to leave. The views were spectacular and there was an incredible amount of space for us. It was our very first trip to Maine and surely not our last! It will be hard to ever find anything to top or even match the feeling at Somes Sailaway. We appreciated all of the amenities, but truly the views and dock access were our most favorite. And it was so accessible to all of our adventuring through Acadia. The wildlife viewing was also incredible: seals and porpoises right off of the dock each morning, and we even saw a bald eagle on the property as well. Pretty spectacular!

Our family of 9 spent a lovely fall foliage week at this beautiful original Fred Savage cottage. The house was perfect – the renovated kitchen was outstanding for all our cooks, the dining room accommodated our family and games, we enjoyed the porch and beautiful view for morning coffee, remote working, oysters and cocktails and at every time of day. The living room was host to fireside games, and recounting our days, we completed two puzzles in the puzzle nook. Sleeping was very comfortable and we were plenty warm in October. We loved everything about this house and going back to an earlier time of gathering without distraction and just being a family. Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven with us. We’d love to come back!

We visited in October when the weather was cooler. We had a hard time leaving this house to explore Acadia. The tide race everyday was something to see. Seals, otters, deer, eagles – so great. And with the kayaks you get to experience everything up close. The central location to MDI was fantastic. We were never very far from where we wanted to go. We brought breakfast food but next time we’ll make more of our meals here. Great kitchen and again the view. The house was the right size for our group of 5 adults. Just had to plan showers as the hot water could handle 3 at once. I was nervous about booking with Knowles Company since I found them on the internet and had no idea who they were. Luckily we took a chance and will definitely book with them when we return. Hope I get a chance to visit Tide Race again, perhaps in the Summer.

With only a couple weeks until my birthday trip to go, my original AirBnB booking was cancelled by the host. I scrambled to find a new place, but options were sparse. I found Knowles company and Legacy during my panicked search. Nikki was great to work with for the booking. I still can’t figure how I got so lucky to have it open. The place itself was better than any of the AirBnBs I had been chasing. The view alone made me forget anything else going on in the world. There are 4 bedrooms and that was perfect for my party of 6 adults. As a history and house nerd, I just LOVED being in a place that felt so full of family history. The only slight downside was that we spent a lot more time in the car than we originally hoped for. With it being a birthday trip, I had a lot of dinners out and day excursions planned in the Bar Harbor area. But – I would love love love to come back to this place and have nothing planned except just looking out over the water and kayaking outside the front door and searching for beach glass. If you are on a lowkey vacation, this place truly can’t be beat.

We had a wonderful week at Seaglass Cottage. When we arrived the house was immaculate and beautifully decorated. There were nice extras in the home – cookies on the fully stocked coffee bar, handmade soaps in the bathroom and home made scones which were delicious! The home is stocked with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable vacation. The location was great for walking to the downtown area which our dogs enjoyed. Easy access to the back yard for the dogs as well. All of us – 2 legged and 4 legged had a fantastic vacation at Seaglass Cottage!

My husband and I stayed here for a week in October – I have been coming up to Acadia for nearly 50 years, so I’ve seen quite a few house rentals. The cottage was plenty big for a family of two to four. Both had closets and dressers to house clothing with extra blankets, pillows, etc. The kitchen was very good sized with seating for six and a full-sized fridge, stove, oven and a small microwave. Plenty of counter space given the extra table in the middle of the kitchen. Lots of pots and pans as well as dishes, glassware and silverware/kitchen gadgets. Living room was small but adequate, but might be tight if you have rambunctious children – there is a small yard but the house is near the end of a dead-end street so traffic is minimal. The single bathroom upstairs was a bit small, but the biggest issue for us there was the “shower” which is in a small claw-foot tub and the shower head is under 5′ high, which was a bit tough even for me (I am 5’4″ and my husband is 5’11”). Overall, the lighting in the house is fairly sparse and dim – if you require good lighting, for example to read at night, I’d recommend bringing a book light with you. Location was fine – a 10-minute walk to Northeast Harbor and 15 minute drive to Acadia National Park – and parking was off the street and roomy for our SUV. Overall, a relatively small but inexpensive rental in a good location on the east side of the island with some compromises in functionality for the lower price.

After missing our annual bike trip with friends last year, and moving to Maine on top of that, we were thrilled to have been able to get together early this month for a week of cycling, hiking, yoga on the lawn, kayaking, eating, and drinking around the fire pit. We had room for everyone and big meals together, we even learned how to steam lobster, everything we needed was at the house. The house is unique and beautiful, like some place out of an Edith Wharton novel. Sunrise views and listening to the lapping water, walking the bar at low tide, and quick walks to town for groceries, ice cream, and the ferry to Schoodic. One big plus is that the house is half a block from the new bike route into the park which is direct and safe. We rode all the Carriage roads and climbed to South Bubble. It was perfect and worth the trip our friends made out from Oregon.

This is a beautiful home that we were able to book last minute due to a cancellation. It is beautifully decorated and has many high end appliances and fixtures. The master bed was quite comfortable and the linens were luxurious. The path to the house from the driveway is quite challenging and steep with granite steps that get quite slippery when it rains. We loved the location which was conveniently located to Acadia NP and also being able to bring our senior dog with us! Wish there was more outdoor level space for her to do her business though. The deck was very relaxing and private.

My husband and I had an enjoyable stay. Of course for 2 people there was plenty of space! All in all it is a comfortable home. For us the highlight is the location of this cottage. It is in the heart of Bar Harbor but you wouldn’t know it. That’s because it is located on a square that is connected to a side street…so gets very little traffic and includes off street parking. After a day of driving around to see the sights and hiking in Acadia it is nice to be able to park our car in the evening at the cottage and then walk into town for a meal and to look at the shops. Always a delight.

Cunningham Cottage was perfect for our stay in Bar Harbor. There were four of us and the house was plenty spacious for us. It was clean, well kept and well equipped. The beds were very comfortable with plenty of extra pillows. We also enjoyed sitting on the front porch as well as the back patio. It was a perfect location to downtown Bar Harbor. We didn’t even rent a car and were able to walk to go out to eat and shop. We also used the Island Explorer Shuttle to go to Acadia. Restaurants and shopping are all literally about a half mile away. We stayed here for a week in August with our two children and one set of grandparents. The house was in the perfect location with very easy access to grocery stores and restaraunts. The view from the house was picturesque to say the least. Much time was spent on the porch taking it all on. The property is a wonderful getaway for family and friends. The great lawn directly on the cove is perfect for games, stargazing and wildlife watching. It’s tranquil and secluded. The magical trail through the woods to what my kids dubbed “treasure beach” is a real gem. There was every amenity we required, and it was very clean and cozy! The dressers in the main house smelled musty, so we didn’t put our clothes away, but otherwise we were all comfortable.

We’re just back from a fabulous week at Moot Point. It’s a beautiful property: clean, fresh, well appointed with everything you might need, and well located in Trenton, just across the bridge from MDI. We absolutely loved our time at Mill Cove. The owners had truly thought of everything you could need and that was greatly appreciated. The beds, bedding and linens were all so nice. We were able to bring our dog which was a great opportunity. The kids loved the ping pong table! We had quite a few tournaments! The kitchen and eating area was plenty big. The master bath was really nice and modern. We kayayed every day right from the beach. The firepit was beautiful each night as the sun went down on the water. We would recommend this home to anyone. The house was clean and spacious. Bedrooms were very comfortable. The covered front porch was a big plus, especially for morning coffee and rainy days. The only negative was the parking situation if you have more than two cars.

This home was incredible for a girls trip, it gave us a great location right off the main road for easy exploration of the island and a fun place to stay in! We loved the charm and felt the space would have been great for an even longer stay. Would definitely come back!

Great property; so well appointed, clean, and comfortable. New appliances, tons of supplies, clean and uncluttered. Feels like the owners have thought of everything and provided it! Easy location to go into Ellsworth for supplies or head into Mt Desert Island, which was amazing. Very quiet, lovely view and setting, and family friendly. Our kids had a great time climbing and playing on the rocky beach at low tide (not really possible for true swimming, but figure it would be great for launching kayaks, which they also provided!). We also so appreciated that we could bring our dog. It’s hard to find such a high quality rental that allows that. Overall, a lovely spot, and a great location for a family vacation.

We had a wonderful stay, the back deck was a great place for morning coffee and evening meals, the view of the sound is stunning. The house is very clean and well appointed with charming artwork and a homey feel. The location is very central, making it a great jumping off point to any adventure on the island.

We stayed a week in July 2021. We had originally planned to come in 2020, but the Knowles Company and the property owners helped us postpone our stay when it became clear that travel would be challenging. We’re so glad we were able to visit. Acadia National Park was the most crowded we’ve ever seen it in many years of visiting. Luckily, we had this wonderful escape on the “quiet side” of the island to return to each day. The cabin is thoughtfully furnished and welcoming. The kitchen has everything you could need. There’s also a wood stove and ample firewood available if you are comfortable using one, and an integrated tankless water heat/radiator system if you aren’t. The view of the harbor is lovely, and the cottage is arranged so that you don’t really notice the nearby road. There were also board games to entertain our young children and kayaks available for the adults. What really distinguishes Seascape from the many other places we have stayed in is the warmth and personality of the place—it really feels like you are staying in the family home that it is and not an anonymous corporate rental. We later learned that the original owner was very involved in historic preservation and it shows in the details—which include carefully restored heart pine floors and weathered doors—that pair well with the updated layout and modern conveniences.

Water’s Edge was truly the perfect house for our family vacation! We enjoyed the beautiful views, the very comfortable beds, the amazingly well-stocked kitchen, exploring all its great historic magazines and books by the warm fireplace on chilly nights, and the proximity to Southwest Harbor allowing for many walks into town and tennis matches at the nearby courts.

Awesome! We loved everything about this house. The kitchen was very modern, high end and well stocked with every thing we ever needed for everyday cooking. We loved the Weber gas grill on the deck, just steps away from the main kitchen. The four bedrooms were modern, spacious, bright and airy. House was very clean with hardwood floors throughout. This is the best house we have rented in the last twenty five years.

Many thanks to Lynn for recommending the Seaglass Cottage to us. It was perfect for us! We loved the proximity to town, but quiet neighborhood. We could bike or hike into the park. The house itself was very nicely furnished with comfortable beds, a great shower, so many beautiful things – we felt like we were truly staying in a high end home, not a rental property. The separate guest quarters worked out perfectly for our teenage son – he loved having his own space. The thoughtful touches from the homeowner did not go unnoticed – plenty of supplies, great selection of teas, and we loved the blueberry coffee cake! We would definitely love to stay there again.

Bagatelle was perfect for a large family vacation. Our favorite time was sitting on the wide porch overlooking Frenchman Bay. We loved our time at Two Loons. It’s a beautiful, peaceful location, and the house is charming– one of those places that has good vibes from many years of
family memories being made there. It was convenient to all MDI locations, but we were always happy to get back to Northwest Cove to relax and soak up the atmosphere. We enjoyed swimming in the cove, kayaking around Indian Point, and walking in Blagden Preserve. We were delighted to see seals, porpoises, bald eagles, blue herons, loons, and many other interesting birds. We can’t wait to return to this little slice of paradise!

Like a duet at symphony hall, a bellowing bullfrog and an eerie loon sounding off greet the evening at the waters edge at Digby Lodge calling us to enjoyment and calm. The home is a welcoming mix of new electronics and up to date appliances with solid well kept antique furnishings. It even has an old fashion radio that works! Everything is top quality and top notch like the hosts themselves.
A hiking trail that circumvents the water also leads to carriage roads, mountain tops (850′) or the village of NorthEast Harbor. You never have to get in the car again. My family loved our visit so much one asked, “Can we spend the summer here”? “Yes, maybe next year.”

I love Northeast Harbor and under unusual circumstances with COVID, last-minute changes, etc, Kate Chaplin, the Knowles Company and Seawoods provided a memorable stay! Seawoods had it all – a view, history and an obvious passion for the place from the homeowners. From the moment we arrived, my family of ten including our 4 grandsons went to exploring the caves and beach combing every day. The giant hammock got a workout every day and when asked “what was your favorite thing today?” we got answers like “miniature golf” or “ice cream” but our oldest grandson Ben said “the hammock.” I’m amazed that even at the age of 67, I can still learn from the innocence of youth. My week with my family grounded me once again with the importance of family-thank you!

Stewart Cottage has everything we wanted out of a house in Bar Harbor for our family vacation. The location was the highlight as it was easy to walk to town or the shore path. The house itself is functional, but doesn’t offer much beyond that. We enjoyed the A/C during the unseasonably warm week and appreciated the shady yard in the afternoon. The bedroom situation is awkward, but works with young kids. I would stay at Stewart Cottage again and would recommend it.

My siblings usually travel to southern beaches and the islands for vacation. While my partner and I have also visited those places, we have also been visiting Maine every year for 20 years, from Portland to Lubec, Mt Katahdin to Moosehead to Rangely – usually with a stop for a few days in the Mt Desert area. I finally convinced my siblings to try Maine for my 60th birthday. I am trilled to say that Camp Oulonquit was the perfect spot to give them a good taste of Maine; from the 12 foot tides and the accompanying rapids, exploring the sea creatures at low tide, to kayaking with the seals at high. Also, I’m glad they got to hear the cal of the loons, which is one thing I wish we had in PA. And the fresh mussels were a real treat. The location was good. We were able to get into Bar Harbor and the park without hassle. The houses offered plenty of room to move around, but i wouldn’t recommend more than 4 adult couples and 6 children. I’d give it a 9 out of 10.

The view of Frenchmen’s Bay from the deck and porch is lovely and soothing, and we could get the same view through the big picture window in the living room (a bonus for rainy days). The cottage layout and the sizes of rooms were perfect for our pary of 3. Furnishings and appliances were all in good taste and good shape. Location is also great, within 15 minutes of the Acadia’s visitor center and close to many park attractions. Excellent Verizon reception in case you need cell service. Overall highly recommneded. Thanks for sharing your home with our family for a month! We loved the books in the library and handy access to trail maps and info on the area. During COVID, because Acadia was crowded, we enjoyed front door access to the less well known Schoolhouse Ledge trails with their views (Somes Sound!), caves, & waterfall. On cool evenings we gathered around the fireplace to catch up with each other. It was great to have the large deck for al fresco dining and when friends came over so we could social distance outside. We travelled to the area for a biking, hiking holiday. The home is well situated walk to town for the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor but positioned on a quiet side street with parking for one car. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance and large supermarket 5 mins away. Nice to sit and relax on the front porch or back patio. There is a property in the rear being built very close next door which does encroach on your enjoyment, however, the noise was only intrusive in the morning as the contractors had gone by the time we returned from our day out. We found the home in good condition and very clean. All bedrooms had great space and plenty of storage for hanging clothes and the beds were comfy. The kitchen had all that you need with new appliances. New washer / dryer could be helpful for a longer stay. We were there in the cooler months but there were ample ceiling fans in the bedrooms for those warmer nights. We will definitely visit again.

Mia Thompson and Lili Pew worked very hard to sell our home in Northeast Harbor, ME. It was a difficult job considering the slow economy and the slow real estate market for that area. Nonetheless, they pulled it off, got a decent offer on the house, dealt with the buyer’s multiple concerns and the actual sale went through without a glitch. We recommend them.

Thankfully we had the team of Mia Thompson and Lili Pew of The Knowles Company to help us with the task. From coordinating inspections to our final video walk through, Mia and Lili were our eyes and ears on the ground throughout the home buying process. They were prompt to respond to our questions and thoroughly explained issues to help alleviate any concerns we had. We are very pleased with the outcome as we love our new home and would highly recommend their services.

This past year, Mia Thompson / The Knowles Company represented my husband and me in the purchase of a wonderful house in Southwest Harbor. We found Mia to be a person of high integrity, sound judgment, and vast knowledge about all matters relevant to our needs (home infrastructure, the local market, contractors, etc.). She was especially astute in handling negotiations around purchase price: fair to both buyer and seller, and sensitive to both the realistic concerns and the feelings of all involved. We are also grateful to Mia’s partner, Lili Pew, who covered ably for Mia at our closing – and who also turned out to be a great source of helpful advice about local service providers.

Such a pleasure to meet and do business with Torie. Her approach is both professional and casual. As it turns out we bought our perfect home and Torie will always be thought of as a major part in this process. Thank you!

We very much enjoyed our stay. The house was perfect, well decorated. The kitchen was easy to cook in and we liked how the space was arranged. Check in and out was very easy. Location perfect for us.

Loved everything about our vacation. Enjoyed Acadia and will return soon. The Knowles Company is first class and would recommend highly. Windswept Retreat exceeded our expectations and I will rent again when we return!

I’ve been coming to Mount Desert Island for nearly 15 years…every single year…and have always stayed in private rental houses. This was definitely one of my most favorite places to stay! The house had plenty of space and sits in a quiet neighborhood that’s walking distance from the stores and restaurants in Northeast Harbor. The house had everything I needed, excellent Internet access, and renting through The Knowles Company made me feel like a VIP visitor with my welcome goodies. In addition to this, any time I had a question for both the owners of the house and for the rental company, I always received a very speedy reply. I loved feeling like I had instant support just an email or phone call away. Since I stayed for three weeks by myself with my dogs, it gave me great comfort knowing that somebody was there if anything urgent were to come up. Thank goodness my visit went flawlessly, but the attention to details by both owners and The Knowles Company did not go unnoticed!

We had a wonderful time at the house. It was perfect for 6 adults – 2 couples and 2 other adults. It was really nice having the separate bedroom areas for a little privacy as well as the large and comfortable common area. It was very well equipped and well supplied, it also definitely felt very upscale. The location was very secluded and private with lots of beautiful trees. It is a little bit of a challenge to find the driveway the first time – I would strongly recommend coming in during the day the first time you are looking for it.

Not sure you can find a better rental for the price and location in all of Acadia. I love this place.

  363. October 20, 2018

We were very happy with the accommodations. This house is very well appointed and tastefully decorated. We loved the location. The third floor could be challenging to older and or less mobile individuals as the steps are very steep and quite narrow. We would definitely stay there again.

    — Kate S.
  364. October 20, 2018

The view and landscape of this home were beautiful. We loved the privacy that we had, and the view of the harbor. It was a little cold with the smaller heaters, but it still kept us warm enough throughout the night while we were there. It was a great distance (15 minute drive) from Bar Harbor, and cute shops and restaurants nearby.

This was our third visit to The Bayview. It is a grand house with lots of space that easily accommodated our group of 16. We love the location of The Bayview with its close proximity to town and the beautiful setting right on Frenchman Bay. Probably our favorite part of the house is the kitchen. Invariably, everyone in our group ends up congregating in the kitchen and this kitchen is spacious enough to easily handle our large group without feeling crowded. We had a great week at The Bayview and plan on returning in 2019.

  366. October 16, 2018

Kate showed us a property that was a possibility but we were pleasantly surprised when she sent us an email with another rental that was ideal for our week long needs. We have been coming to Northeast Harbor for the past 15 Septembers….love your community.

We could not have been more pleased with our stay at Firefly Meadow. There were two couples. The home provided us with excellent gathering rooms as well as complete privacy for sleeping arrangements. Kitchen was well equipped. And the selection of books was amazing.

  368. October 12, 2018

Stayed here with 8 other couples-18 adults. It’s very large, on the water, and has a beautiful view. It’s one mile to Hanneford supermarket,1.3 miles to Bar Harbor Main Street. We walked often but there was a free shuttle right across the street if someone didn’t want to walk. Also drove occasionally. Parking wasn’t a problem end of Sept. The kitchen is very nice. Well stocked with dishes, lobster tools, etc. Enjoyed the firepit and available firewood. Very large deck where we had happy hours overlooking the water. So relaxing! The three children’s wing bedrooms are small and those three couples shared a bathroom, but two of the three only stayed part of the week. Could easily accommodate children/teens though. All other bedrooms are large and had nice bathrooms. Every room seats many people, one also has a pool table. Also a Large TV. Never needed to wait for a bathroom with 3 extra powder rooms. Great location to all of Mount Desert Island. Fabulous place! Highly recommended!

This beautifully furnished home made for a wonderful time. The location is walking distance to Bar Harbor, easy drive into the National Park and well-equipped for fun meal times and quiet reading time after spending the day hiking. We loved how much space there was for enjoying ourselves. Outdoors in the back, on the front sun porch, living room and upstairs bedroom. This is the perfect place to spend a vacation in Bar Harbor.

  374. September 22, 2018

We have stayed in many rental properties on MDI over the years; all of them memorable, most of them idyllic. Grasslands retires the trophy though: by far the best location, best views, best logistical set-up for our clan of eleven (6 adults, 3 little boys, 2 babies). The kitchen is both generous and modern: two sinks! two dishwashers! two fridges! while retaining its old-fashioned charm; great layout of bedrooms and baths, fabulous wraparound deck, great lawn for the kids to run and play games on. Flower beds and deck planters could win awards at the state fair. We also loved the details of the owner’s family life lived here over the years: books and photographs, a real sense of tradition of Maine summers.

If you want to get the true feel of Maine,I can’t stress enough … Clifton Getaway is magically quaint and charming. To have the water and Acadia on both sides of you.. what’s not to love!? The town is lovely and Milk & Honey a must!! My Husband I stayed at the dock. Others rented a beautiful home a few miles away. Everyone wanted to stay with us!! Thank you Kate at The Knowles Company. I almost hate to let the public in on such a gem!!

  376. September 21, 2018

Clearly this house is loved…filled with charm and special furnishings. Perfect location: on a quiet street but a 5 minute walk to downtown Bar Harbor. The “Annex” was great for our teenage son. Kitchen extremely well appointed, comfortable beds, great shower.

  378. September 19, 2018

Beautiful accommodations, kitchen well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Loved the wrap around deck – a great place to relax with a glass of wine after a long day’s hike. Very secluded and private residence. Close to the Asticou Inn which we found great for lunch/dinner and cocktails. This was our best stay yet on the the island.

This is a MAGICAL place. What an incredible setting for enjoying all that Mount Desert Island has to offer. From the incredible stargazing at night, and beautiful sunrises in the morning, to warming up in front of a fire on a rainy day, every moment we spent here has felt like a small bit of paradise.

  382. September 14, 2018

The Paul Cottage was the ideal place for our family. With two young kids, we especially appreciated the short walk to dinner, shopping, and the harbor. The home itself was exceptionally clean and well-appointed, but not too precious (see: two young kids above). The Knowles Company was fantastic to work with – prompt and thorough. We will be back!

  383. September 13, 2018

We were blessed with great weather during our vacation and the Quarry Cove home was outstanding. We visited several beautiful places on Mount Desert Island but we experienced more nature on the property than anywhere else. We didn’t have to leave Quarry Cove to see several Bald eagles, osprey, pileated woodpeckers, seals, deer and starfish. The views from the decks and the dock were spectacular.

    — Stephen M.
  384. September 13, 2018

Ripples was perfect for our family. The boys loved sharing the kids’ bedroom and my spouse and I loved having a bedroom retreat. Having a washer and dryer on the same floor is so helpful! Plus, the porch was so pleasant when there was a nice evening breeze.

    — Rebecca N.
  385. September 12, 2018

This is a lovely house set among trees with distant views to hills. It is very comfortable and well equipped and in a near perfect location for all that the island has to offer!

  386. September 11, 2018

We had a great stay at Spring Meadow. We had three families attend the vacation and 4 children were 3 years old and younger. There was plenty of space and we all enjoyed seeing them run around outside and play. The house itself was great and provided enough room and space to accommodate all of us. I would recommend this place to anyone and look forward to returning to the house in the future.

  389. September 5, 2018

We had a truly wonderful holiday. The property was so well equipped and had a real wow factor. The boys had a fabulous time canoeing. Sunset at Bass Harbor lighthouse and visiting the shoreline were highlights. Loved Echo Lake, nature obsessed child chased garter snakes. Two great afternoons at the beach exploring rock pools.

  390. September 5, 2018

Cute little house. It was a very nice place to stay, with plenty of room for our group (myself, my wife, two kids and my parents). Probably the most conveniently located place I’ve ever stayed on vacation–a couple minutes walk from the grocery store, Bar Harbor shops, restaurants, the Island Explorer bus, etc. Yet because the house is tucked away from the main thoroughfare of Cottage Street, it was still plenty quiet at night. Fantastic!

    — Ryan S.
  391. September 5, 2018

The cottage was in a great location (aprox. 5min walk downhill to the waterfront and main street). The cottage was clean and very well stocked. One of the best rentals we’ve ever had.

  394. September 4, 2018

Lupine Hill is a lovely home, beautifully appointed and very spacious for a big group. We found everything we needed in the kitchen for meals, had plenty of beds (even a pack-n-play!) and bathrooms for all of our kids and family (10 total), and enjoyed having two living spaces plus the screened porch for spreading out. We really appreciated the cooling systems on the very hot days we were there. The house is convenient to both sides of the island and a short drive to everything we wanted to do. We had no problems at all and Lynn made the rental process easy and straightforward. Highly recommend!

  395. September 3, 2018

This spacious and well appointed home was the perfect place for our family vacation. It’s close to town, along with hiking trails and the beach. We would definitely recommend it to friends looking to vacation in Bar Harbor and we hope to return again next year.

The Cunningham Cottage is a perfect place to stay with our adult children and grandchild. Great location, comfortable beds, clean and updated. Walking distance to town, playground and kiddie pool. Convenient to Acadia National Park.

    — George a.
  398. September 2, 2018

We were a group 0f 9 hiking friends who rented the house. It was nice and large and the kitchen was great for community cooking and sharing chores. Location is nicely out of the way from the hubbub and across from swimming. Lovely stay. The only difficult part was that the lower level where 3 bedrooms are was a bit damp and musty. Other than that, it was a pleasure to stay there.

    — Louise H.

The house was in a prime location to enjoy playing on the rocks on the shore and walking into town. The home was the best equipped and laid out house that we have ever rented! Every conceivable comfort of home was supplied.

    — William C.
  406. August 28, 2018

The house was ideal – very private with a beautiful dock, yet close to Southwest Harbor. Kids loved watching the lobster boats from the house and dock. Picking wild blueberries out the front door was a bonus. The fire pit was terrific for grilling, s’mores and ghost stories.

    — Anita F.
  407. August 27, 2018

Westover in Northeast Harbor is a unique home. All of the bedrooms are fabulous. Bathrooms are shared, but this added to a sense of family homecoming.

We used Rockette as an overflow house for a family reunion. It is quiet, very functional and in a good location. We would definitely use it again.

    — Donald M.
  409. August 25, 2018

The deck and the view provided many happy mornings and evenings. Our days were spent exploring Acadia – hiking, kayaking, sailing. The town of Southwest Harbor is delightful and a treasure of great shops and restaurants. So much more to see and do on our next visit.

    — Linda a.
  410. August 25, 2018

Wonderful property all around! It is well maintained, comfortable, did not have to bring anything but our clothes and food. Well stocked with dishes, utensils, linens etc. Felt like we were staying at our own home away from home. Highly recommend! Loved mornings on the deck with a cup of coffee!

    — Kathy a.
  411. August 24, 2018

Great house near downtown Bar Harbor. Quiet residential area but only a walk away to everything. Well appointed and comfortable.

    — Dana N.
  412. August 24, 2018

An absolutely perfect place to stay. The house is very well maintained, clean, and set up nicely for a family. It was fantastic having the walk down to the dock and the pond (particularly since it was unseasonably warm). And the owners graciously provide two kayaks and a canoe. Normally we stay much closer to Southwest harbor but everyone agreed this is the place we want going forward.

    — Mark B.
  413. August 22, 2018

    Fantastic location.

    — Devon M.
  414. August 22, 2018

It was a lovely place to stay. The history of the home was fascinating and we read much about the family and the history of Acadia while we stayed there. The back deck was perfect for our family after long days of hiking and exploring. We’d love to stay again.

    — Katie H.
  415. August 15, 2018

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Seaglass Cottage. The location that couldn’t be any better. We were very close to shopping and restaurants in downtown Bar Harbor, however we were located on a side street that was quiet. Also, right around the corner was a grocery store, so we were able to quickly pick up anything we needed. The cottage was a perfect home for this vacation. The owners have clearly paid attention and made sure that the house had lots of comfortable furnishings. The annex bedroom is a lovely addition as it allows for some separation for extended family vacationing together. All of the common areas are large with multiple seating arrangements so people can enjoy conversation or games during the evening time. The laundry in the basement as well as the grill on the back porch are also welcome and convenient additions to make the cottage a true home away from home. Finally, the cottage is absolutely beautiful. We loved all of the decorations throughout the cottage.

    — Gina M.
  416. August 15, 2018

Grandchildren from the city loved seeing the deer especially when it followed them to the corner ice cream store. We also loved the closeness to the shops, restaurants and ice cream shops in Southwest Harbor. Our granddaughter went to the Wendell Gilley museum and had a bird carving lesson that she loved.

  418. August 14, 2018

We enjoyed our stay at Spring Meadow. The living area was very comfortable and the kitchen large and well stocked. We had 2 families and it was great that both sets of parents could have a king sized bed (not easy to find a rental with 2, let alone 3 king size beds!) The only real downside was that it was very hot the week we were in Bar Harbor and the upstairs was too warm to sleep comfortably several nights….window fans just can’t keep up when it’s that hot, although the big shady trees helped somewhat.
We also liked the location. The village of Bar Harbor is charming but too crowded for my taste (at least in August) When we went into the village, we parked at the Visitor Center and took the shuttle in, which worked very well. All in all, a great trip!

    — Janet B.
  419. August 13, 2018

The house was better than even the description. The Timber framing was amazing. And everything in the house was immaculate. The view from the kitchen, living room, and bedroom windows over the bay was beautiful. And seeing the sunrise every morning from my window started each day in the right way. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as did the kids.

    — Rebecca a.
  420. August 13, 2018

Nice little cabin. Clean with comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen. Everything you would need is provided. We saw deer most days under the apple tree.

    — Dawn G.
  421. August 11, 2018

Exactly what we expected based on both the pictures and discussion with Lynn. No surprises. We were happy that this was a very clean house, everything was functional and it was well stocked. It is an older, smaller, no-frills house, which we knew that going into it and it exactly met our needs for the right price as we were there basically to sleep each night and were out almost all day every day. We would def keep renting this unit.. till our kids get older and we feel comfortable getting a place near water!

    — Hussein E.
  422. August 11, 2018

Stunning property on the water. Lots of privacy and solitude. Well-stocked kitchen and house. Our group of eight people (4 adults, 4 kids) had plenty of room to spread out over the two houses. The upstairs bathroom in big house could have been more updated. 35 minute drive to Bar Harbor.

  424. August 9, 2018

We loved everything about our stay….after a long day of actively “vacationing” (hiking, biking, kayaking, etc.) we loved coming back to Blueberry Lane! There was this one afternoon where a wild turkey had flown into a window and shattered both the window and its own confidence of safe flight!! The bird lived, the glass was swept up, and all was restored. A beautiful, comfortable cottage.

    — Maureen a.
  425. August 7, 2018

The home is fantastic and well-maintained. The views are spectacular. The kitchen has everything you can possibly imagine. We had plenty of room for our large family to stay for the week. The only complaint we had was the twin bed mattresses were very hard. Also, if you visit during a hot spell, there is no air conditioning. This was not an issue for us as the weather was very pleasant during our trip!

    — Julie M.
  426. August 5, 2018

The Magnolia cottage was perfect for our family of 8 adults & 4 children. Plenty of room in the house & the property was beautiful & spacious. We loved walking down the path to the dock thru the gardens & trees. The view is spectacular. The grandkids loved the yard & all the space.
The house had so many rooms, cozy but spacious, that we never felt crowded. We had a great lobster dinner (picked up fresh from Trenton bridge lobster pound) there in the house. We used the table in the sunroom with 2 card tables there in the house with plenty of chairs. We ate there almost every night. It was perfect!

    — Barbara B.

We have been coming to this area of Maine for over 30 years. This has been by far the best place we have ever stayed. Everything you could need is there from kayaks to games to a stocked pantry to candles to exercise weights! Stunning location on the gorgeous Skillings River.

  430. July 31, 2018

This cute house was just what we needed for our family of 6. We liked being able to get away from the crowds, and historic homes are always fun! The small public lake beach/boat rental down the road was perfect for an afternoon dip.

    — Shelly B.
  431. July 30, 2018

We were overall very happy with the location and house itself! It was in a perfect spot to be close to the busier downtown, Acadia entrances, and quieter Harbor locations. The three king bedrooms very very spacious and our children enjoyed the bunk beds. The kitchen was awesome for both cooking and hanging out. The outside area gave our kids plenty of room to run around and ride their bikes and they especially liked playing in the tree house! I would highly recommend staying here.

    — Amy S.
  432. July 29, 2018

We’ve stayed in many rental homes in Maine and elsewhere and Larkspur rates among the very best. Excellent location, very clean, spacious, and outfitted with everything you could need. AC units in each bedroom and a large unit for the first floor helpful during hot spells. Highly recommended.

    — Christopher M.
  433. July 28, 2018

Living in a home with well water and septic, we were surprised to see a garbage disposal. Some instructions on its use would have been helpful. You may want to caution people who live in the city and are unfamiliar with septics. We did not use the garbage disposal, but when we left the sink was blocked.
Being environmentally conscious my husband was concerned that there were no provision for recycling. We would have had to traveled many miles to a recycling center.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sea Gypsy. It is so clean and well equipped. Delighted that we could bring our dog. Great location for our first time in Maine. Enjoyed kayaking the bay at Sea Gypsy where we saw many seals! Loved hiking & biking in Acadia. Thank you Gordon’s for the helpful notes regarding the house, restaurants, etc. Wonderful experience for our 3 – 20 something boys, my husband and me. Thank you!!

It was our first time in MDI, Maine. We didn’t really know the area but we felt very fortunate to have found Pebble through Lynn at Knowles company. It was easy and simple to book the place. We were given plenty of instructions and directions to get prepared for our trip. We were very happy with our stay at Pebble. It’s rustic and very charming complete with a loft, and a dock outside. Our kids had fun swimming and fishing off the dock. Don’t forget water shoes! Canoes and kayak could be rented from National Parks center. They will deliver for weekly rental. My husband and son canoed all over Long Pond to fish. They caught a few small -mouth bass. We were only a few mins from Acadia, my new favorite place to be. It was one awesome vacation we would never forget! We will stay at Pebble again in the future!!!

Central Village House was the perfect base to explore the island. The house itself was clean, well-appointed and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location was absolutely perfect. It is convenient to downtown, yet on a quiet, tucked away, one way street. No hassle to find parking! Just park in the driveway and walk to all the great restaurants and shops downtown. We would give it 10 stars if we could!

Perfect location for our gathering, easy access to all nearby attractions when and if you choose to go. The property is large and on the beautiful Somes Sound….Coffee on the dock in the early morning and you will see seals, birds and other wildlife, same at sunset. The “Cottage” is large with plenty of open space for all to enjoy time together or split off for other activities. The cottage had everything that we needed, a bit rustic, but that was part of the charm!!! It felt like a real “home”… So comfortable for our family. We made beautiful memories and would go back there again…

The house and surrounding area were beautiful. We all enjoyed Acadia National Park and the beach that was only a few minutes walk from the house.

A wonderful old house with lots of good space, room size was great and the porch, cannot say enough good about it. We spent most of our time just sitting on the porch and looking out over the harbor. Lovely!

Great house, modern inside, lovely deck and yard with kids swing and grill. The living room area and kitchen are a little small for large group. However, for our group of 8 is was great.

Million dollar view home! Process to rent from Knowles was very easy and efficient.
Not sure we’d stay at the same house again though. Beds and linens need to be upgraded. Very musty and beds very uncomfortable. House was not fully cleaned upon arrival. Crumbs and dust very apparent. Plus, the wrong key was left for us. Jed was very helpful with the correct key as he drove it over within a couple of hours, but we had to leave the house unlocked for that time with all our valuables inside.

Birchcroft is a beautiful home and looks like what a older home in Northeast Harbor should.

The Looney Bin is the PERFECT Maine rental home. It is centrally located and beautifully positioned on Long Pond, which is very serene. It is private, at the end of a long private road. It is large and in excellent condition. Put simply, it is outstanding and I would highly recommend it for anyone seeking a rental accommodation near Acadia.

We had an amazing vacation and are so thrilled that our home base was Smallidge Cottage. It is the perfect retreat in a quiet location – the house is amazingly well appointed with classic Maine details. We were beyond impressed our stay at the cottage!
